Does the mod podge actually hold up?

Truthfully, no. My images started peeling right off the shoe after a couple of uses. I think the mod podge is fine for actually stacking the comic pieces, but I'd suggest doing the first layer using a heavy duty glue like e6000 just to give yourself a foundation that won't peel up.

I made a pair and they are sooo kool. I coated with bees wax to coat and water proof. I am sure they wont last forever, but I will enjoy while they last.

Mine don't crack but they bubble like hell when they crease and it's pretty ugly. I think with lighter color comics this probably won't be an issue but I used Sandman comic pages which are very dark, so you can see bubbling glue.
