In this video, I'm scratch building a corner shelf and making a milk can using a wire insulator and buttons. I'm hand painting the milk can with folk art style painting. I'm also adding a shelf of food, a crate of handmade air dry clay potatoes, completing a coal scuttle bucket mini kit and more.
I'm accessorizing my cardboard room box. It's only 3 inches deep but it looks deeper due to a forced perspective illusion. There's enough room for a fireplace, antique looking stove, a chair and lots of accessories. I made it using a damaged Home Depot box.

Someone may have already figured this out I’m sure, but if you take black acrylic paint and add baking powder it foams a bit and gives a great texture to any piece. I made an awesome wood fire stove. That’s something I learned in a video on here. What I found out by being lazy and not cleaning up and left over is once it dries it a really great way to make chunks of coal and ash!

Oh, thank you, I will keep that I mind. I also really like the trick that Heather Tracy of Thicketworks used using superglue to harden layers of Cardstock so it can be filed and sanded like wood, she also used bicarbonate of soda to speed up superglue setting.

I love the technique you’ve mentioned before of adding shadows since minis don’t cast full sized shadows. Such a satisfying detail. Also how you really explain how and why you do things, where you got them etc. Even though I never make minis! Lol I love “to avoid doing math” 😂. My life’s constant aim. And that you make sure to show off when something was cheap! Minis are expensive and I love seeing others be frugal. Like everything you do pleases me!!!!

The churn thingy is painted in the same style as metal buckets and other items that people who used to live and work on canal barges used to make their traditional look, its always been one of my favourites, it's usually flowers (which you really pulled off well considering how tiny) or castles. I didn't know it came from Germany because most people who know about it just call it canal boat art. I need to look at the ground more often, I have been know to pick up copper and other wire but if I see anything like you just found, I will be copying you, lol!

I absolutely love your approach to your art; I'm so happy to have found your channel! When I lived in Colorado, longer ago than I care to admit, we had a wood-burning stove in the main living area for heat. We burned both wood and coal, starting and maintaining the fire with wood, and then adding a few pieces of coal which would burn hotter and slower, thus relieving the need to add wood through the night while sleeping. I now have rather a dislike for cast iron stoves, and much prefer central heat and air! Haha! Nevertheless, your coal scuttle is perfect, and I look forward to seeing more!
@queencityminis
@queencityminis Год назад
That's so interesting! I used to live in a small town, and we had a wood stove as the sole source of heat. It was awful. Either my dad would get up in the night to feed the fire or we'd wake up freezing. I wish we had known the coal trick.

When I clean out the stove each morning to start fresh, the leftover coals from overnight are still too hot to do anything safely other than let them cool in a metal bucket. Thank you for the tip! I have small pointy brushes with longer bristles, but I've never used them. I'll have to give them a try the next time I'm painting something tiny.

I'm late too, but I wanted to add that a dotting tool in different sizes, usually used for nail art, would work great for tiny art. Dipped in enough paint, you can kind of draw with it like a pencil. I'm a new subscriber and have been binge watching. 😊

Do you have a suggestion for where to get that metal file? Not sure if it’s a crafting one, but when you talk about a tool more than once, I buy it 🤷🏻‍♀️

It was given to me. I'd check out Harbor Freight

Meh dirty sidewalk trash just adds character. Ohhhh wish I would've known that curling paper trick yesterday. I was making a pipe for a smelter I'm making and putting the little paper rings on it sucked

I know. It's a great tip. I was curling paper by wrapping it around a marker. It didn't work well. I love getting tips and tricks from viewers.

@@queencityminis that's what I was doing too. It doesn't break the paper enough to be flexible enough to make a circle so it's a pain in the ass to get it lined up and you gotta hold it. I'm gonna try that finger nail thing

I've never been to France but maybe you could visit La Boite a Joujoux in Paris. It's a toy and miniature shop.

@@michellehicks6898 That's very true! I have a TON of miniatures because I bought 14 boxes all at once from a yard sale app for $180 or something crazy. Then I got more stuff...

Just fyi, in case you don't know, youtube has dropped like 5 different ad breaks into your video not counting the start and ending ones
@queencityminis
@queencityminis Год назад
Oh wow. I was placing the ads myself but started choosing for them to place them automatically. That's an obnoxious amount of ads. They don't show me where they're placing the ads before I publish. Thanks for the heads up.

I would have colored the clay first before making potatoes
@queencityminis
@queencityminis 11 месяцев назад
I did. The first batch was too brown, so I made them again with lighter clay since russet potatoes are almost white inside.
