Thanks to Lowes for sponsoring this week's build, check out the DEWALT 2-Tool 20-Volt Max Power Tool Combo Kit here : low.es/2AeGKqS #sponsored Check out the Kreg Accu-Cut and K5 Pocket Hole Jig here : bit.ly/KregTool
For those without all these tools, taking a cut list to Lowe's and having them cut some 3/4" birch plywood is a viable alternative. The rest can be cut with a hand saw at home.
I love woodworking because I love the smell of wood and I love the contact and it's more relaxing then sewing I tried sewing, it just didn't work for me because making something according to a pattern was really hard for me and stressful I love the Smell of Wood so much I wear a purfume that smells identical to ceder or pine even though it's a floral fragrence it smells completely the opposite but I only wear that certain purfume because floral Scents give me head aches but I have never liked them anyway they are just not my jam I like Coco EDP because it makes me feel like a lady also drinking tea makes me feel like a classy woman even though I am 13 years old LOL 😂 but I also like it because it adds a touch of elegance but masculine also because woody fragrances are very masculine and I like to also feel masculine because when you do woodworking you use power tools and you have to be really strong to use those because those things have force but just that contact can take all your worries and cares away it just feels good and I sholding something that you made Is just cool in general it's a shame that woodworking is too underrated because if you just try it it might turn out to be your favorite hobby and I think that more women should do woodworking also it doesn't have to be for guys in fact a lot of guys in courage women to do woodworking
i appreciate that you are wearing a Finnegan shirt at some point. Also, thank you for doing a variety of projects like this that can be accomplished with limited tools, and describing how you can use tools without certain features (like a router with an edge guide versus a router table). I'm sure your son will have that toy chest filled up in no time!
Great project. Your video, as always, was very well done. You do a good job explaining all the steps and showing them as well. I also appreciate your honesty in making it clear that this video was sponsored. Too many RU-vidrs aren’t doing that.
Great project and top notch video (of course!). I wanted to watch it during the premiere but was making breakfast for the family. Oh well! I agree that rabbit joinery works really well - it moves the alignment work earlier in the project and makes the glue up very easy. I could also see ebonizing the base as an alternative to painting. Thanks for the build!
You made red oak look so modern. A great example of how doing the simple things correctly can turn out looking so fresh and finished. Great vid Johnny.
I love the way that stain looks, very nice project. Everyone makes things out of plywood (myself included) so much that sometimes I forget you can make things out of solid wood.
I love this piece. Nicely done. Red oak is dense enough and very stable; I like using it, but agree, the look is... "meh". Also, I can't wait for the day the whole "pre-" trend ends. We're not pre-drilling. We're drilling pilot holes. We should all stop pre-doing-all-the-stuff-we're-not-really-pre-doing.
Johnny, that looks awesome. I definitely need to build one since my boys have managed to break store bought plastic totes where they put their toys away. But I guess that's how boys are: destructive. Here's to hoping when they're old enough to fix it or build it
Great video, and SMART ADVERTISING!!! Perfect little box in the corner , while Not interuppting the video and gaurenteeing it doesn't get fast forwarded. Very smart
Is it possible to make the chest with out the legs? Because I don't think I have enough wood to make the legs I might substitute red oak for popler wood because mine is a beginner project I also wanted to make it because I was looking on Amazon for blanket boxes and blanket baskets and I couldn't find anything that I liked so imma make one my self not only do I want to do set design but I also love woodworking And making something of my own because it's great to have something you made it's Awesome but but also when you are a woodworking inthusiast keep in mind that your work table won't always be clean because you are creative and you don't sit around and watch tv all day that's boring unless you are a tim burton nightmare before Christmas geek that's me I am a goth person but I definitely love woodworking Shakespeare theater 🎭 and just Theatre goth in general Especially Hamlet that's hardcore theatre goth but I also love unicorns🦄 mermaids ☠️pirates and ships in general I live in San Diego so ships are a big thing because we have the maritime museum they also have ships that are so historical they are chalk full of ghosts 💀
@ 3:54 sup with all that blue plastic? Looks like you had two guides put together, but the edge guide on one was further out than the other one. That normal? Like do you cut them to precision on first use or something?
Thankyou for making these videos with the perfect amount of education and entertainment. I have learned a ton from your channel. And how does your camera slowly move and change angles in your time lapses?
That stain looks great!! I love the look of just staining the outside and leaving the inside it's natural color. It adds a subtle contrast to the piece
And I will say, this will probably be my Christmas gift to my 6 year old nephew. So I really appreciate the FREE information and instruction. thank you very much man.
You guys make it look sooo easy! I can never seem to get things perfectly square which throws off everything. Great storage chest! Thanks for the video! BE SAFE,GOD BLESS!🇺🇸🙏❤
In 10th grade woodshop class (1991) I made a 72" wide x 18" tall x 15" deep out of oak (the sides are 14" wide solid oak plank).. parents werent thrilled when they got the wood bill for that one lol ..
Great project! Quick question. You like the poplar 2x2s because they are square rather rounded at the corners. Then you chamfer and sand the corners. Doesn’t that end up the same? Thanks!
Great cabinet. Great build. It's not a big deal in the slightest, but you can hide half the base- rail pocket holes by orienting them upward. The cabinet itself will hide them.
i don't like oak period. would love to see a piece made out of poplar with a lacquer finish, no stain or paint. we did a test piece at a cabinet shop i worked at years ago. sanded and lacquered a piece of poplar it it looked awesome, was green, yellow, white and gray.
Hey! Coud you please comment on your experience with Festool products? I noticed that you have table saw from them. I consider buying some as well, but I'm wondering if they are worth the premium price they cost.
at 3:55 did you cut in the the guild a little bit ? I see some blue saw dust ? how is it holding up ? do after building this with it how long do you think it will stay strait? Also thanks for the vid they are getting really good. I am going to make this same thing, just out of all ply because I am cheap.
I have one and you are supposed to cut into the guide strip with your saw to indicate exactly where the cut line is going to be. You can buy replacement strips for when they wear out or if you change the saw.
Go to lowes.. look at the aluminum straight edges (Swanson CG100) is one I've been using for quite some time... measure/clamp ..much better,(imo, easier at least, every tool has its pros/cons in certain situations) + you can do angles with this method
Crafted Workshop Gotcha, I just thought was funny. The box turned out great. I’m actually going to buy the plans and build with plywood. Been look at blanket box idea on here for a while.
