Instead of cutting "T" connector in two half, You could have cut cylindrical portion of connector in such way that it fits in snap fitting on motorbike pipe & clamp phone holder pipe the way You did.
Yes it holds the phone pretty well.... It is not that easy as on the spring holders but hold is quite good if you use a "wing nut" instead of a normal nut then it will become easier to mount and unmount
