Thank you! I just used your idea but used a piece of PEX water line. I heated it with a heat gun as I pressed it between 2 pieces of flat aluminum in a bench vice. Immediately chilled it so I now have a flat strip of PEX. I formed it to appropriate angles and mounted to my net. Perfect!!! I notched the PEX and also used 3 cable tyes to secure it and then wrapped in tape. Thank you!
Watched this video just yesterday. Applied the DIY net hook system to two of my fishing nets. However I use two stainless steel drinking straws I found in a kitchen drawer. Easy Peezy! Thanks!

Ben, this is a home run. I pimped mine out with using electricians friction tape instead of the standard black tape. Friction tape has a rough exterior so my net doesn’t slip from my hand when they’re freezing cold. To give you props, when I’m asked about it, I give them a link to your shop & a link to this video. Great idea, I just got a Fishpond mid size (long handle) and this set up will work great. I'm going to use copper ground wire, you can get it for less than a buck a foot in any thickness you like at at any good hardware store and it is real easy to bend into shape ( you can even get a rubber cap for the end, so no snags)
I recently had my net cord break and had been getting by with a small clip, but after watching this video I was impressed at the simple, DIY nature of the solution and made a trip to the local hardware store. My experience was that I was NOT able to stabilize the bar from moving, even after getting it all taped up. My solution was to add a bit of gorilla glue under the rolled tape strips and bar itself to fully secure the material. I then used electrical tape per the video, but reading some of the comments if that eventually comes off, I'll move to racket tape. I also used a small stainless rod (hardware store) vs a cheap spatula, the cost difference was a few $$$ more. My opinion from the video was he did a lot more wraps than I thought necessary so I changed up the wrapping process, cross tapes along the front and generally cleaned up the lines to make it look a little better IMO. I made sure to keep the tape neat and flat and the lines aligned a bit more, I also chose to cut the tape vs tear it which makes the edges a bit ragged and not adhere as tightly as I thought it should. Overall I am happy with the solution with a few adjustments.

This setup is absolutely the best when you’re on the water. No fighting to find the net, no grip-shifting. As soon as you grab it, it is in the perfect position to be used. And quickly and effortlessly put away. Great!! The only problem I’ve encountered is when I’m off the water. While trekking through the woods or trail, any branch, vine or obstacle that brushes by the net pushes it up and off my belt. This happens enough to detract from its excellent configuration. I’m sure you’ve had this problem and wondered if you’ve come up with a way to minimize this situation and would appreciate if you would share it. Thank you

I’ll probably end up purchasing the Net Man as continually going back to pick my net off the ground is become tedious. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I liked your “home” setup because of the “cost”. And to be clear, you’re saying that you’re able to grab the net from the Net Man exactly as you do from your version-in other words, once grabbed, it’s ready to use without shifting the grip? Thing is... I use a chest pack lol... I am aware you can attach it to the waist by loops and a belt but I wade in deep water. I have my net setup on a magnet system though and works excellent with a strong magnet. I may have to try out the backpack system though. Is it kind of a pain in the but to get to fly boxes and other tools and such?
This is an awesome setup. I've been doing this for years. The only difference is I use a flat spatula handle and shrink tube overtop the tape. I hated having my net hanging on my back. Kept getting caught and was a pain to reach when I needed it. Hanging it off my belt on my side is much nicer.
Top idea, (although I would have thought of myself eventually of course lol) anyway, my version went like this; I had a belt holder for a large maglight, some aluminum flat about 1/2" wide , 2mm thick, I curved the aluminum flat, superglued to the belt holder to hold it in place, used two cable ties to secure it so I could pass tape thru and round the belt loop. I used "amalgamating tape" it has no adhesive and sticks to itself-its used to repair hoses if that helps find it so my version is reversed as the "hook" is on my belt-my net has a space where the frame and handle meet. If using your version, I'd probably glue a wader repair patch just in case the metal rod caused any damage but seeing how much use you guys put it thru I doubt thats needed?. The other thing about my version is there won't be any shouts of "where the hecks my spatula!" from the kitchen ha ha. Great idea sir, solved my problem as the magnetic holder thing was driving me nuts.Thanks for sharing.
Nice video like all that you do very informative. Just got a new net with the measurement on the bottom, a little heavy and is hell retreaving if it gets loose and starts floating down stream. Got to check out that rubber net of yours.
I think it is a great idea and you have it down to a fine art. It will take a dedicated fly fisherman to go through the process, but once done they will surely appreciate the concept. I just went to a magnet a few years ago and sort of like it, so far no problems, but if I had seen this video back then I would have had the "Big "B" attachment on my net. Tight Lines....
Anytime and yes, it was available one day many years ago in my garage when I got an idea and was the perfect fit. ha ha Best of luck all season to you.
hmm... seems the rubbing caused by taking the net off and putting it on would wear away at the waders after a while.. not to mention bending over and just about every motion would cause friction again causing it to want to rub and work a hole into the waders.. X @ this idea.. cheers!
I’ve got a Milwaukee utility knife that I clip to my belt for work everyday. It’s pretty sturdy. The knife was about 10 bucks. I wonder if that would do the trick and look a little more custom. I’ll report back on this one……..
Great and simple idea, but as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, instead of electrical tape I would use tennis racket tape or bar tape (for bicycles) and even paracord to finish it off.
I would cut a neat groove with the dremel and clear epoxy it in with a light layer in the groove and down the sides to create a nice bevel with a syringe style applicator. Should serve you better than UV cure due to higher tinsel strength.
