DIY Organza Back Button Placket Baby Top With Skirt Cutting and Stitching | Easy Baby Top and Skirt
Welcome to my channel! Today, I’ll show you how to make a beautiful organza back button placket baby top with a matching skirt. This DIY project is perfect for creating a stunning outfit for your little one. Let’s get started!
Materials Needed:
1. Organza fabric
2. Lining fabric
3. Buttons
4. Scissors
5. Measuring tape
6. Sewing machine
7. Needle and thread
8. Pins
9. Chalk or fabric marker
10. Iron
Step 1: Cutting the Fabric
1. Measure your baby’s chest, waist, and desired length for the top and skirt.
2. Fold the organza and lining fabric in half.
3. For the top, mark the chest measurement divided by 2 plus 1 inch for seam allowance on the folded edge.
4. Measure and mark the desired length of the top plus 1 inch for hemming.
5. Cut the front and back pieces of the top from both the organza and lining fabric.
6. For the skirt, measure the waist and add 2 inches for the placket. Mark the desired length of the skirt plus 1 inch for hemming.
7. Cut the skirt pieces from both the organza and lining fabric.
Step 2: Sewing the Top
1. Place the organza and lining pieces for the front and back together, wrong sides facing each other.
2. Sew the shoulder seams.
3. Attach the sleeves by aligning the center of the sleeve with the shoulder seam and pinning in place.
4. Sew the sleeves and side seams.
5. Hem the neckline, sleeves, and bottom edge of the top using a narrow hem.
6. For the back button placket, fold the back edges inward by 1 inch and sew. Attach buttons and corresponding buttonholes.
Step 3: Sewing the Skirt
1. Sew the side seams of the organza and lining fabric separately, leaving 2 inches open at the top for the placket.
2. Place the organza and lining fabric together, wrong sides facing, and sew the waistline.
3. Create gathers by sewing a basting stitch along the top edge and pulling the thread until the skirt matches the top’s waist measurement.
4. Attach the skirt to the top by pinning and sewing them together at the waistline.
5. Hem the bottom edge of the skirt with a narrow hem.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
1. Iron the entire outfit to remove any wrinkles.
2. Add any additional embellishments, such as bows or lace, if desired.
3. Try the outfit on your baby to ensure a perfect fit.
