What I really appreciate about Ben's designs is that all of them are extensible and customizable to individual preferences or flairs. Really inspirational, simple and common-(wo)man friendly. Speaking of flairs and woman, where was Jesse to kick this up a notch or two?
I'm a mother, not a father and I want all these 'fatherly" things you featured! I'm not into diamonds and all that jazz. I want a freaking wood shop and an area where I can do some metalwork as well! Guys get all the good stuff LOL
Be careful using canvas outdoors. Some of it mildews beyond all hope without even getting wet. I refitted director's chairs with canvas and they were completely moldy black within a week -- always under a roof and exposed to no rain or humidity during that time. I used every possible bleach and mildewcide to cure them. Alas, the fabric was immune to recovery and they went to the trash. I make a lot of outdoor cushions and have taken to pinning fabric samples to the clothesline for a week or two to test prior to using it. (Discovered that birds like to steal the fibers for nests in spring :) I figure it's my contribution to 'Abitat for Avianity.) It's handy to build AND sew. I'm having loads of fun with Homemade Modern.
Canvas was stretched incorrectly. Always start in dead center on each side. Put one staple dead center left side, then one dead center right side, then one dead center top, one dead center bottom. Continue this process of one staple at a time on each opposing side and you'll get a tight fit, no bunching. Pull each piece of canvas tight before stapling.
IDK exactly what type of outdoor foam you used, but depending on that, I'd like to suggest you drill holes in the support board you put underneath the foam so when/if it rains, the foam can both drain and air out/dry faster.
Absolutely love the structure of the video. Love how everything is explained. Thanks 😊 I'm in the process of renovating my Lanai...and the way my wallet is set up ....I would rather build my own custom furniture. I've built indoor pieces before ...so wish me luck.
just one if you were paying attention. and god forbid that someone we like, who is putting out great instructional content tell us about stuff that we are probably interested in so he can pay his bills... How often do you write in to the TV stations complaining about the commercials that they put into their programming?

That was a genuine compliment. I wasn't complaining.but If you saw only one sponsor in this video you must have stopped after the first 5 seconds
Are you building/built a "container house"?? Just curious, I'm trying to get one built but I don't know the right people to get it done from "dirt to drawers ". Love this thing. Problem is I have no skills.
I like that you actually try to properly integrate the sponsor stuff, the fountain pen is a bit off, but whatever; the garage vacuum _is_ cool -no, I mean it sucks. ;D
I love that idea and showed it to my wife. She agreed and we will be referring to this when we build something for our deck. Washington weather 🌧️ will require a few changes, but the functional design looks perfect for us. Constructive Feedback: I did find the type of ad here... unappealing? I do understand the dynamics and pressures of content creation and support the use of sponsored content. I just wanted to provide my unemotional feedback as you weigh the types of sponsorships and how they are integrated into your future videos. If you would like my specifics on my point of view let me know; I'd be happy provide details you are interested.
Nice, good basics to customize (I’d probably go for a 3-4” cushion for overnight sleeping under the stars). And I admit I’m lazy...for the seat, I’d just screw all the boards on first, and then snap a line and cut the ends to their length in one fell swoop. Wouldn’t have to measure and cut each one, and they’d definitely all be even;). Wouldn’t take much more for a little adjustable sun awning with the same fabric, either, or a rain roof just a bit bigger on a little frame that could either be up out of the way, or tilt down over the whole seating at an angle to let water run off onto the ground, maybe some of that clear wavy greenhouse plastic. Always looking for a way to sleep out in any weather...
I liked very much, but It didn't seems to me how you solved the angle between the back and the seat. I mean, the 2x12s have a simetry that you broke in that union. If you didn't understeand much is because I'm from Argentina and my inglis ins't very good.
Also for those complaining about ads, if you're on PC, use your arrow keys to advance the video. If you're on mobile double tap the right side of the video to advance. You can skip stuff you don't want to see.
Do you get tired of me telling you that I think that you are brilliant? Cuz I am saying it again. I love the cedar against the grey. Great project, your dad is going to love this gift.
Not really a problem. With my outdoor cushions, I just hose them off, and occasionally use a scrub brush while they're still wet to brush off the bird-do. When you have removable cushion covers, it's really a hassle to take the covers off the foam, wash, dry, and replace them.
Yeah Ben, screw the 9 minutes of valuable content you gave us for free. I’m upset you made me watch skippable ads relevant to an upcoming holiday I forgot about until I saw this video. I can be a terrible son on my own without you invading my leisure time. Geez.
What screws are you using? And why is the wood not breaking when you screw without a guide hole first? I would love to be able to screw wood the way you're doing it but my screws always end up splitting the pieces.
A lot of in video ads breaking the build, then the on screen ads during, the only thing you need now is a shirt and a hat for a sponsor! Oh wait....maybe put logos on the sea containers!!!!
