Thank you (three years later!) for making this post. I need to do the exact same changeout, and while I am sort of handy, I have never done this type of work. My, very nice, over the range microwave broke last week and I have decided that having a range hood with light is the better option overall, even though I lose a little counter space to a new counter top microwave. I am so grateful for your video as it shows me exactly what I will be doing later this week.
I currently have a microwave range hood and the suction is almost nonexistent. Thank you for the video, it’s the most detailed one on RU-vid in terms of taking the microwave range hood down as well as installing the new range hood.
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Jedidiah Cyrus i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I have the exact same model microwave and have purchased the exact same model range hood. Complete coincidence that I just ran across your video before I start the swap this weekend. This will help me immensely. So thank you!!!
Thank you for your work, this helped me tremendously , I was skeptical about it doing my myself and was procrastinating , but this video drove the fear away. For me since distance was getting more than 30 inches between the burners and rangehood, I had to improvise with some additional wood structure between the rangehood and the existing upper cabinet. And the most difficult part for me was how to lift it to the right height later used a big 6 inch bolt to hang it first and then slowly one side at a time swapped with right size bolt.
Nice video - thanks for sharing ! Waiting for my PS18 this week. In one of the steps for the screws that would hold the hood, those are slide on holes. Perhaps you could have screw to the wood and simply slide on. I suppose you still have to open the hood to tighten it, but at least u don't need that long drill extension. Great job - I have to do the same exact job too. Takeout my old microwave and put in the hood.
You are correct. Those are slide holes. I didn't trust my measurements, so screwing them on directly was a better option for me and for accuracy. Also depending on your under cabinet set up, you might have to drill another hole for the power cord. Good luck on the install this week. Thanks and take care...
Great Video on removal and installation, I will be installing the Hauslane UC-PS18-30 tomorrow! One thing I am going to do different for both phases of removal and installation and use my car jack with a plywood sandwich on the stove and for lifting the range hood into the proper location. Thanks !!
Awesome vid! It was a huge help for installing my PS16 just now. Almost went for the PS18 after watching this video, then opted for PS16 instead. The instruction manual for the PS16 unit was definitely for the PS18 lmao. Turned out great! Thx
Wonderful video! I was afraid I might have to cut up cabinets to fit a hood in the space where the microwave is. It looks like they're a pretty standard size. Thank you!
FYI, Since you have shown us motor oil box, I am assuming your change your oil yourself and have jack stands to lift your car. Use Jack stands to hold the microwave when removing it.
Very nice guide, going to follow it to do the same in my house. Only one note: Should've painted the inside of those cabinets that the microwave was covering before the install.
@@diypotentials You helped me soo much! My son and I took down our microwave today just as you described in the video. Looking forward to putting up our range hood!
Nice job. Am trying to replace existing stove vent and don't have the luxury of cabinet doors over the stove. Will have to cut a hole to reconnect the exhaust vent and refinish the outside. No contractor wanted to touch my job. To detailed and time consuming.. If there is a better way, please let me know before I start a bigger project. Am going to look and look for comments on internal exhaust with charcoal filters.
Nice video. Thank you for posting Things I would do differently. 1. Remove cabinet doors. 2. Use the default round duct work into the hood. It's cheap and easy to cut. 3. If you stick with the square adapter. Disconnect it from the round tube and install and seal it to the hood. Then install hood. Easier to work with this way. Cheers
Hey buddy, how’s the range hood working? Any review? I need to buy one too but there are too many out there & I m confused! I am originally from Pakistan but living in Canada & our food is tough to get off the walls so I need the best powerful hood… please advise thanks
You can read the comments from the others folks and I also provided the link to the product. I’m still very happy with the range hood. But always good to do more research on any product…Thanks!
Very helpful, thanks. My microwave has a rectangular vent directly out the back so I have to figure out how to align the vent hood with the existing vent in the wall. Not sure how to tape that junction.
Thanks for commenting. I’m happy with the range hood. I sold the under cabinet microwave for $100 on Facebook marketplace and purchased a new countertop size microwave.
Hi! I am wondering what is your thought on this range hood? As a fellow Asian who does a bit of stir-frying, and frying in general, do you think this range hood is good enough to keep the smell out of the house?
Hi Bill, based on my experience with it so far, it does a good job removing the cooking aroma. It has 6 different suction levels, for my stir fry, I use only up to level 4. Level 5 and 6 can remove even more aroma but it does get a bit louder at each level. Overall, I’m satisfied with the purchase. It does look really good in my kitchen. Thanks for asking. Good luck with your decision!
Hi, very good video. at 12:25 you show the duct pieces that attach to the top of the unit and then connect to the wall duct. Is the duct an 8" duct ? The wall duct looked smaller at 6" ? So does the fact that the ducting narrows to 6" reduce the maximum of 900 CFM ? Thank You :)
Thanks for all the detailed explanation it helps a lot! How is it working after these months? A QQ, Why you went with this PS10 model instead of PS38 model? Any specific reason?
@@diypotentials great ! I am quite convinced with the explanation you have given in the video and I am excited to mention that I am going to tackle the same project right now right now in my recently bought new home 🏡 Wish me luck 😋
What about you, did you end up talking PS38 or this model PS18, I am shopping for the PS38, but skeptical on the flat bottom cover, where the cooking smoke has to go to the edge to be sucked in or maybe missed and still make it into the house.
Hello, I meant to say the PS18 as described in the video. As I mentioned, the ps18 meets the suction requirement I needed. I didn’t want more or less . Also it fits my budget as well. I unable to comment on the PS38 because I don't own one. Thanks!
Hi There , Nice Video . I got my PS-18 yesterday and i'm struggling with the install. Thought i could use some advice. 1) My undercabinet is recessed and the bottom is like 1/2 an inch thick ( or may be less ) . I'm worried if that cabinet board is going to to hold the wieght. 2) Did you use some reinforcement between the range hood and the cabinet board. 3) The power cord and the drill hole are so close on the right side . How did you get around that.
Hello, if the weight of the over the range microwave oven that was there before is more or approximately the same as the PS-18, then the board should be able to hold. If not, check if the board is solid and sturdy. Personally, I would feel okay with the install, mainly because the weight of the PS-18 will be distributed by 4 screws. If the board is flimsy, I would reinforce it with another 1/2 inch board or some other methods. My cabinet bottom board is 1 inch thick. The power cord situation is a bit of an issue because it is so close to the screw hole. Depending on your current cabinet set up, you might be able to drill another hole for it without interfering with the screw hole. For me I decided not make another hole for the power cord. Because of that, the rear right corner of the range is slightly lower than the rest. However, because it is situated in the rear, it is not noticeable. Thanks for sharing. Go luck with the install. Let me know how it went. Take care…
Planning to install this range myself. I just read the manual, there's two optional screws in the front/center if you want it more secure. I'll definitely use it just for peace of mind. 10:15
You can always cut a piece of plywood which lays on the bottom of the cabinet. This will give you more support and not take up any space in the cabinet.
Hi Jim, I didn’t open mine up to that level yet. Sounds like you are going to have to open yours up anyway to find the circuit board. I hope all will go well... thanks
Appreciate the detailed video! There seem to be a lot of reviews for this range hood on its website, Wayfair, and Amazon. But some of them do indicate that it's either not as powerful as advertised (someone used a CFM meter and got
Hello, thanks for asking. The suction of the range hood is very powerful. There are six levels of suction to select from. So far we use mostly levels 1- 4 for heavy cooking. The noise level goes up at each level. The range hood has two motors so it does get a little loud at level 5 and 6, but we don't often need to go up that high. Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase. Best of luck with your decision. Thanks!
@@diypotentials Thank you for the quick reply! I called Hauslane in California and they said the factory that manufactures the product in China gave them the following measurements. 6 speeds with their respective sound levels: 200 CFM / 25 db, 332 / 30, 464 / 32, 596 / 38, 728 / 42, 860 / 58. I don't suppose you've measured the CFM or sound since it seems to have been working well enough for you but have you noticed it to be in the range of these numbers? E.g. some websites say that: 30 dB = a whisper 45 = rustling leaves or soft music 60 = a normal conversation 75 = radio or vacuum cleaner
Level 6 is below vacuum cleaner noise. You can have normal conversations at level 4. At level 5, you have to compete just a bit with the suction noise, but you can still have a conversation. The suction noise is solid and clean due to the powerful suction of the range hood.
Great video, thank you! I'm curious what, if anything, you did to finish the unfinished sides of the cupboard that was previously hidden by the microwave. I'm going to have the same issue I think.
Great video! Just curious, where did you install the removed microwave? Shouldn’t that be hanged somewhere as it has fan and light on its bottom OR is it possible to remove that from the bottom of microwave and use it on countertop?
Your video came up when I was looking for videos on removing the over the range microwaves. Your video had good pace and was very informative. What a coincidence I was looking at the PS18 range hood to replace the microwave. What are you thoughts on the PS18? I narrowed it down to the PS18 or the Vesta 860cfm range hood. Not sure if the light function is as efficient as the Vesta. It seems the PS18 turns on both light and fan at the same time and cannot independently turn on either like the Vesta. The two are very similar otherwise. P.s. you should have "PS18" in your title to make the search come up with your video. Also your assistant looks like she was ready to be elsewhere to check on other range hood videos or maybe Tik Tok :) Thanks
Thanks for the feedback. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. Regarding the light function, when you turn on the range hood, the light does not come on automatically. You have to press on the light button to turn the light on. It is somewhat independent, but the range hood has to be turned on first, before you can turn on the light or leave it off. Check out comments from other viewers, you might find them helpful. My assistant was probably checking on Tik Tok, although she was a great help. Best of luck with your search and installation. Thanks!
Thanks for the quick reply. When the range hood is on, can you turn on the light without the fan turning on? Also can you turn on the fan without the light turning on?
Yes you can turn on the light with the fan off. Also when the range hood is on, the fan does not come on until you press the fan level buttons. Hope that helps!
