Kaulakorun valmistaminen teelusikasta Dremelillä. [english description below]
Tarkkuuskädensijaa käytän, koska se säästää sormiani, joissa on vähän heikko puristusteho. "Kukat" koru on muotoiltu käyttäen poranteriä, sekä dremel terää n. 9910...
Joten kokeilemaan pääsee ilman suuria hankintoja.

Notice, that drills can be overheated easily when working with stainless material. Avoid using high rpm with high pressure,
Drills can be cooled with wax, (i have used dremel's polishing wax sometimes), alcohol (nailpolish removal etc..) or water, if you don't have else.
Or.. just be carefull. If drill makes squeeky noice, stop drilling, otherwise steel gets harder and its really hard to make a hole to it.
"Flowers" is shaped using drills and dremel bit 9910.. so you don't need to buy multible bits to get started.

I've used Dremels forever, and I'm falling over myself on the video. Never gave it a thought to carve a spoon!!!!!! I've bent forks into jewelry, but didn't even consider a spoon. Thank you so much for the video and sharing your talent, this has opened another avenue to add to my wire work as well.

Thank you for translating to English. I did recognize the Finnish dialect, but I cannot speak or read Finnish; luckily, my relatives in Finland and US can speak English :-) I love your video and learned quite a bit. I received a (new set) Dremel Maker kit with the VersaTip 2000 (my other is the Dremel 290). I am new to using heat/flame for art design. I have lots to learn. Just picking up the Dremel again to learn new art skills is a blessing.

I make guitar parts and necklaces with stainless forks. Drilling and cutting are a bear. Drills cost me a ton so I know this is a lot of work. I polish everything out to a chrome like shine after the heat I have to use to bend things. Never tried engraving like this. Beautiful stuff, opens up a whole new creative world for me. Thank you!

For the heat treatment, if overhearing becomes an issue you can use a kitchen oven. You can get a straw gold at 400°, going to copper at about 475°, then starting to turn purple, then blue after that at higher temperatures. For a pictograph, you can Google "Temper colors" and find one that shows the temperatures needed.

7 лет назад
deezie Thank you. Spoon might get warm, and even hot too. I must say that i haven't never used shells for anything. Here those are hard to find. Gloves and face mask are succested. Tungsten carbide cutters make sharp tiny splinters, those can be sometimes very annoying and hard to remove.

I have a lot of trouble with the bit wanting to skip or jitter all over. If I hold the dremmel too tightly though I feel it’s worse.. Any advice on what to do or what to practice on? Im very new to this but I really want to do this!
6 лет назад
Makyrie Start with making thin lines with full speed. Then lower the speed to ~ 20.000 rpm. And make grooves deeper. High speed makes controlling easier, but it wears bits out faster. If using very high speed, carve in short 3-5 sec periods, then release the pressure for a second or two, then continue. Try to engrave making short sweeps, instead trying to draw like with pencil.
@Crazyivan79
@Crazyivan79 6 лет назад
I am trying this at the minute (different design though), have some tungsten carbide bits I bought from china, after about 30 minutes use on the spoon they are showing significant signs of wear. Any thoughts? Maybe the quality of the burrs are not up to scratch?
6 лет назад
Crazyivan79 Yep. It makes difference what bits you use. Dremels are little more pricey, but quality is good. Dull bits workhardens surface of the spoon, and finally its so hard that it breaks bits. I avoid pressing bits against the workpiece over 3 seconds, then i relief the pressure and wait 0.5-1 seconds before i continue. That keeps bits cool enough.

@Lazywatchsmith
@Lazywatchsmith 8 лет назад
Tuomas Soikkeli juu hyvin sopii. Kannattaa varmaan lakata tai jotain että väri pysyy paremmin. Viime viikolla olis kannattanu jyrsiä kurpitsalyhdyn tyylinen lärvi siihen. Tai kokeile thdä sellainen came-koru tyylinen.
8 лет назад

8 лет назад
Thank you. There's no big difference between 3000 or 4000/4200 (same motor in these two) models. 4000 has more torque, it works better with low speed. When using high speed there's no big difference between them. If you think to use it a lot, then 4000 model / or cordless 8200/8220 is a good choise. If you are going to use it just sometimes, then 3000 model is enough. I suggest having flex shaft and shaping platform attachments with them, those make working much easier.

8 лет назад
It doesn't sound stupid to me. I have to say, it might be difficult.. Of course you can drill holes easily, but you might need some tungsten carbide cutters or grinding stones. If you don't want buy new tools, you could try with silver spoon ( here those are 1-3$ at the flea market ) its much softer and easy to drill. You can cut patterns to it with coping saw. Those are quite easy to make yourself too.

Tuomas Soikkeli I have the 4000 and it also has the handle. I'm wanting to learn to engrave and was curious if the Dremel was a good tool for that. Metal engraving.
7 лет назад
DR. Vance Its very good for it. I use 4000 model mostly in these days. I use tungsten carbide cutters mostly, those can be used with every metal. Diamond wheel points are good too, grinding stones work also, but those lose their shape, thats the minus point with those. If you engrave alumine, copper or brass.. use cooling with tungsten carbide cutters. Dremel's red polishing wax is great for that, dip the tip to wax after couple minutes of work, your bits lasts longer and the workpiece doesn't harden.

I refuse to work with stainless steel. First off, it ruins tools like nobody’s business. Second, I couldn’t sell stainless jewelry if I tried, which I have.

Albert Ledesma If you use right tools, in the right way. It doesn't ruin them. Of course its much harder than silver, but that just make's it "better", i think. But, everyone has theit own opinions, and favourite materials.
