We love the torus hydro pod! Works awesome for keeping the pH at a steady range. Never spikes above 6.5. Suuuper efficient way of keeping RDWC and hydro systems regulated

Brings me back! Had a similar setup when i was running an aeroflow 60, PH was constantly drifting up, dosing pump and Milwaukee controller did the trick.

I do appreciate these types of videos that you post. I've already learned and applied a lot of the LED information you've shared before. The trust is there bro. This stuff just makes me want to #1 continue to to improve as a grower and #2 continue to spend more money on cool shit like this. Lol I love it

Ha!! I super knew you would do this!! As it came up on the round table and more and more people in chat asked about it ...then you touched on the aquarium controllers ...I knew it was on!! You never disappoint sugar! 💚 3 minutes in and I can't wait to see how it goes! (Not to mention I'm totally enamored with the way you say peristaltic😍)

Built the same one with identical parts and cost me about 350$ CAD total (Half the price of the Bluelab controller), just got it set up and doing a test run but so far so good. I opted for a 30:1 mixture because it was using so much of the 50:1 solution. Next step is setting up 5 gallon pales with PH up and PH down solutions and wiring up a float switch to shut off the controller when the solution runs out to prevent the pumps from burning out.
@mackenziewood4619
@mackenziewood4619 3 года назад
9 hours later and it's working perfectly, it kicks on once every 9 hours when the PH gets to 6.02 (high setting) and brings it back down to my low setting (5.81) in about 30 seconds without using much solution at all.

Thankful for this video. Helpful in my research on building flower room aeroponic systems with off the shelf components. Aeroponics would for sure need some guy or gal checking the PH of reservoirs on a constant basis, unless you can PH automation. EC does not fluctuate as much as PH in hydro, so unless it is on a larger scale, I think a lot of DIY full flower aero set ups can run fine with just PH auto control. Eventually I want to have both, but I just don't operate on a large enough scale to make the EC auto control nearly as important as PH.

super bad ass! in such a small test tank I'm surprised you got it to settle! I could imagine slowing down the pumps with lower voltage (essentially what diluting did) would help with control for some folks.

Just an observation for what it's worth; Try putting the probe back on the other end of the tank and increase the sample rate of the controller. In process control of this type you generally don't need a PID, just a PI or a straight proportional control. But give the dose time to effect the whole tank and get mixed in by increasing your sample rate.

Using similar skills and components, you could make a flow battery for high energy backup storage.. pair it with some solar, wind or hydro power and you've got a complete energy solution. Not only would you have backup power, but you could take your entire operation off the grid.

how did you make out?
@dp4295
@dp4295 Год назад
Very well Ken. If I knew how to post a pic I would lol I tried a couple different ratios for both PH up and down and landed on 20:1 for both. I have a 75 gal res feeding 8 25 litre totes (ea holding approx 15 litres) RDWC. Works good but I wish there was a way to pause after a dosing to give the entire system a chance to adjust.
@dp4295
@dp4295 Год назад
If someone could design and build an affordable system that doses ph up/down and ec that would be amazing. For EC you could have a target with a ratio mixture from 4 or 5 peristaltic pumps. For example if you were looking for an ec of say 1.2 it would dose the desired ratio ie 60% from peri 1, 20% peri 2, and so on. I think you have the know how to build this.

shaking ph solution isn't gonna matter. Its just phosphoric acid and potassium carbonate, they wont "settle out". Issue with the pinpoint controller in general is there isn't a adjustable delay. Those units were mainly designed for Co2. Making something like this out of arduino wouldn't be difficult, you would just have to source for some decent pH probes. You also have to keep in mind those probes have a limited life most of them are only rated for like a year of use.

@jonosterman2878
@jonosterman2878 4 года назад
I think systems running this type of PH auto control should consider using small circulation pumps, in addition to air stones, for greater circulation of the up and down chemicals. I see that one of the issues in these tests is that the added up or down solution is not circulation fast enough.

Hey @growmau5 , if you get these messages, what was that data logger that will update on a program through wireless to the computer? Didn't hear it get mentioned on the tools show. not to control just to log environmental data, co2, humidity, temp, Volts... Peristaltic pumps that you have I have similar ones. Problem with these pump is they don't have same flow rate. Ex. One may do say 50 ml per min and another pump of same rating may do 51 ml per min. This creates a issue when you need to dose 2 or more stock solution in same proportion. So the question is how to you fix this problem. I know my question is related to ec and video is on PH.

If the aquarium your first test run was done in was straight RO water, could the rapid fluctuation be a result in the lack of anything to buffer the PH? My guess would be if you repeated the test using the nutes you would be running in your res, a more concentrated PH +/-, your readings would not be as rapid or variant.

How do you accomodate an intentional drift with this system? If your value is set to 6.0 and your deviation is set to +/- .3 (for instance) will the controller linger within the range as it correct? I.E. correct a pH of 5.3 to 5.7 and then allow the mixture to drift all the way up to 6.3? Or will it correct a pH of 5.3 to 5.7, allow it to drift up to 6.3, and then correct somewhere down to 6.0-6.3 when the mixture strays basic? Does that make sense? Question is, basically, if I intentionally let my pH drift through the 5.5 to 6.5 range, will automation allow me to do something similar or be more "robotic" in the way it corrects pH?

8:45 it'll have to do with how many protons the acid can potenially give up. im pretty sure i uses phosphoric, which is triprotic. i don know what is used for ph up tho. but yea adjust ratios accordingly to how many protons the acid gives up to how many protons the base sucks up.
