Hey! Thank you for the comment. I wasn’t even really thinking about under the bed storage when I designed this frame, but you’re right, it does allow for a good amount. I also think it wouldn’t be too difficult to add some drawers underneath if you felt so inclined !
OMG thank you. I saw a variation on this design on a video once and couldn't find it again. I want to build a bed like this. Thank you so much for sharing your build and process. You're my freaking hero!!!
Thanks! I really wanted to make this bed completely disassemble-able and french cleats seemed like the way to go. My only regret is not making them bigger and a little higher up. Though, the nice thing about french cleats is that I can make new ones and replace them easily !
Awesome idea on the French cleat side tables! If you put a small strip of wood along the bottom of the vertical panel that the cleat mounts to, itwill keep the table more level and not sagging out towards the end of it. 👍
You're freaking awesome bro, the music is just perfect to watch the whole video you deserve more subs good luck and watch you more often thanks yt for recommending you.
I love it! And agreed, you are seriously underrated. I think a good way to get noticed is getting involved with some of these Rockler or other sponsored challenges.
@@FirthFabrications Full disclosure, part of the reason I suggested that is simply because I want to see more content from you! Haha! Plus, it gives a good place to start if you hit a creator's block
Good style bed. Well made and strong! I will want to make one of these but just have two comments you probably picked up on after making this first time....I would put an extra ply on outside of strips when cutting them all to avoid split off, and I would cut the groves one neat time with a router instead of rip saw. And yes...I realize not everyone has a handy router laying round, bro! :P But great job!
Hey, great video. Do you think this could be made out of MDF? I'm looking to make a bed frame and MDF is about 5x cheaper than plywood where I live. Thanks.
Hey Bobb, the slats are 8ft long. Mainly just because that's the length of a standard sheet of plywood and I added a little bench onto the end. You could get away with shorter slats if you are more space constrained in your room. The slats are ~3in apart. The recommended support for my mattress was every 5in but I thought that seemed a little large. The support boxes are about ~4ft apart. If you want detailed designs, I do offer dimensioned drawings on my Etsy store for just a few bucks. Let me know if you end up building one, I'd love to see it!
@@FirthFabrications Thanks for your response. I was actually asking about the width of the slats-or how tall they are when they're turned on edge, as they are in the design. They look to be about 3" as well. I probably will make this for my daughter to take to college, but I'm having trouble finding a supplier that has 4X8 sheets of baltic birch plywood. Everyone near me seems to only stock 5X5 sheets.
It sure can! I just only have plans available for a king size. You’d just want to get measurements for your desired size bed and scale things down. You shouldn’t need to change the slat spacing or anything like that.
Dang, sorry you don't like it. I'm not in love with the stain color either, but once I started I couldn't exactly stop! As far as the headboard, I definitely thought it was too big as I was building, but did you see the end of the video with the mattress on the frame? I think it actually looks much more reasonable than I had anticipated. My side tables on the other hand might be a touch too small....Anyway... Sorry you didn't like my work. I'll try harder next time.
@@FirthFabrications No, I have not said that I did not like your work. I mentioned two aspects. Personally speaking, the ply design is damned good. It is a practical design. I like it...but not all of it
@@FirthFabrications great solution! I made a platform bed, not nearly as nice as yours, but damn I ruined my shins on that one. A seat would have been a great solution to my clumsyness! Thanks for the vids! Have a great day!
