Did I make yet ANOTHER puff sleeve dress? Yes. Do I regret it? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Been eyeing this organza puff sleeve dress from an adorable brand called Selkie for WEEKS and thought about making it with organza, but realized it was impractical. This adorable polka dot cotton fabric was the right choice. :)
SOME TIPPITY TIPS:
1. This might seem a littttle weird but if you don’t have a dress form and can’t make a form-fitting bodice pattern, you can actually use aluminum foil! It would be a good alternative to a dress form but ONLY FOR THIS DRESS: since the bodice is very short, you just need the shape of your bust to create a bodice (compared to a longer bodice, where you need the shape of your bust AND waist to make a bodice, which is what makes it difficult). Take some foil, scrunch it up so that it’s long and stuff (stiff enough to hold its shape) and mold the foil to the shape of your bust. You’ll get the curve of your bust and it should be a semi-circle shape, which is the only shape you need for your bodice! It might not be ~perfect~ but it’ll get the job done!
2. If you choose to make this dress with organza, don’t use lining!!! Instead, cut out a bunch of organza skirts (I think 3 is good) and layer them to make the fabric opaque (since organza is very sheer). Since organza is stiff and poofs out when you gather it, lining fabric would be too flimsy and just fall straight down. You’ll be able to see the lining underneath your organza dress, which is a no-no. The original dress doesn’t have lining either, just a bunch of organza!!!
