Darlene Michaud I have found my twin! Literally! We look alike, same colouring, cuddly sized, both love making things, both hate pins, both love to just make it up as we go, both rough and ready, both get excited about an idea, then think "why do I fucking put myself through this crap" and both swear when things go wrong...which is often! Lol! I hate rotary cutters too, scissors are so much easier. I love making things but I want a whole project done in an hour or two cos I get bored and frustrated easily! I like things simple and not too finicky and perfect. I'd be quite happy to rag everything, including curtains... just to save pinning, hemming, precise measuring, ironing, prewashing and all that tedious bullshit! You are literally an American version of me! I'm English. In fact I probably swear more than you lol. The only difference is I do all that with cigarette breaks in between! I only found you today and so glad I did! I've watched 5 videos in a row so far and subscribed. Oooh your double pink one piece rag quilt you did.... I've also done that! Not from your video...I dreamt of it one night then tried it out myself...so even our original ideas are the same! 😁😁😁

Darlene, I think you did a great job on this teaching video. I understand your frustration in your teaching videos, because they are time consuming and you do want everyone that watches to understand, but I try and tell myself all the time that striving for perfection all the time is exhausting. I also appreciate that you show your errors which makes others realize that even a seasoned seamstress make mistakes . Your editing was great and I and I understand exactly what to do when making this tote. One of the reasons I like your videos is that you do not sweat the small stuff when sewing or quilting. I am one of those that was taught by a mother who was a wonderful seamstress but it had to be perfect. As I have aged, i realize that perfection can stop people from doing things. You have helped me to sew and enjoy and if you make mistakes while doing new things, it is ok.......most others will not even notice them. I am in the process of taking a 12 week treatment and I am so glad I stumbled across your videos as you have helped open my eyes and to just enjoy sewing. I have four weeks left of my treatment and I hope soon after that I regain my strength and mental clarity and I can get back to sewing and try my hand at quilting. I will definitely have a new attitude toward it due to you because you have opened my mind to just enjoy and not be so critical in think everything has to be precise. I thank you for your videos and helping me to pass my time and you have also taught me not to be so hard on myself.

hi Darlene, I'm loving your quilting video's. I used to quilt with my mama but she's not with us anymore and I kinda pulled away for some year's but we're settled in a new home in a new state and I'm ready to get back into my arts and craft's ECT. I've got a slew of grandkids, and nieces and nephew's plus extended family I need to make quilts for. Such a blessing to see your easy projects and get busy. Ty so much. Blessings everyone! enjoy y'all.

I feel the same way - when I sew for myself, I'm happy but when I have to show someone else, I swear I'm going to quit sewing. It becomes a chore instead of pleasure. But I do understand everything you show us so don't worry.

This was definitely a win. I will make one of these. Hope I can find enough fabric in my stash. We know it doesn't need to matchy match. Love the quilting. I would have thought to go vertical but horizontal was terrific. Your language (while not my common vocabulary words) only add to the appeal of your videos--especially this one.

Thank you, thank you. I am 70 yrs and just bought myself a new sew machine. Got it home on my mobility scooter, no room left on its platform, so rode it home with this big box tween my legs, and me pretending I did not look weird at all with my legs stuck out to the side. Got it inside, placed it on my table, stepped back and said to myself “what in the hell am I going to do with it now?” Jumped onto Utube and discovered YOUR tutorial. Easy to follow, understand, and filled me with a belief that I can follow your step by step video. So, here I go. You are so inspirational, thank you. 👍🏻🌹👍🏻

Darlene, people who have machines with open arms like mine would not have had to take it apart to quilt it. Thumbs up for your even squares ! lol ! Yes girl, Rag That Handle !!!! Oh Yes - Sewing for the pleasure verses something with expectations. It becomes a job !!!!! Not so much fun then. Finally ! Mission accomplished. Great Job ~ D !!!!!!!!!
@darlene.michaud
@darlene.michaud 7 лет назад
I never thought about that for others, but for me, I'd still have to open it. When I quilt, I need it flat to the table and I need my hands all over it to "drive" the way I want. lol I have a free arm on one machine here and never use it. Even for hemming a cuff, it's strange for me to sew that way. Or even for just plain sewing, I would need to drop that machine somehow so I can lay flat on the table. It's the reason I'm hesitating on buying another machine for the fancy stitches. I have to figure out a way to drop the machine to make it level to my work surface.

I am not too hard on myself. I'm simply expressing that it was a nightmare. Nothing wrong with that. It's the truth! It's okay for stuff to go completely wrong and to work too hard on something and talk about it. I need to be free to say what I feel. This has nothing to do with being hard on myself. I am in the middle of making my first rag quilt (twin size) for my grandson and it is looking amazing. I can't wait to see it when it's finished.
