I totally love the offset blocks. I will never make another quilt again without using this technique. This makes it so simple, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing this idea. I love it so much. Great job. I know what I’m going to do now. You helped me over my hump lol.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
So glad you like the idea, Debbie! Offset seams has been a huge timesaver for me. It's also perfect for charm squares, or any size blocks for that matter. Glad you like and will be using this technique! Thanks so much for watching my video. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

A great finish - your Grandson will be so happy and warm/ Thanks for the tips - a rag-quilt is on my ever growing 'to-do' list. I'm always looking out for thin fleecy blankets in our charity shops to use instead of batting. *Happy New Year 2023* 😁

Great idea for the batting substitute, Lesley! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year back at you. 😍 Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Thank you! My teenage grandsons are really into weighted heavy warm blankets. I’ll try a flannel triple layer quilt for them. That should be heavy and ultra warm. I love the idea of offset seams. Thank you!!

Hi! I’m new to your channel. I haven’t quilted since before the covid lockdown. Then various problems happened. Now I have 2 new greatnieces/nephews, so I need to hurry up & make a quilt! This seems fun & fast! I just found a new quilt guild too! Yeah! (Almost everyone in mine died of covid or cancer. Sad). Glad to be back! Thanks for this video!

Glad it was helpful, Lynie! Rag quilts are my go to for a durable kid's quilt and this one turned out great. Using themed fabric like the camping prints in this quilt really personalizes it, too. Hope you get to give it a try! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Thank you so much for the rag quilt tutorials. I purchased your border tutorial and love it!! I started making the 2 flannel 5” block rag quilt and decided I needed batting. Can I sew X in the 5.inch blocks to hold the batting. I did cut the batting at 4”.

Thank you for your careful instruction. I just bought a flannel piece for my quilt. I plan to use a flannel top, flannel middle and cotton back. What size would be the smallest you would advise for the squares? I like the offset setting. What about binding in the normal way? What fun we can have! ❤
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 7 месяцев назад
You're right, Evelyn! It is fun. 🥰 The smallest square I've used was 5-inches which finishes at 4-inches. It was a baby quilt and was very sweet. You could go an inch smaller but much more than that and your block becomes mostly seams. Also keep in mind on those small squares you don't need to reinforce the blocks with the diagonal stitching. That's only when you use batting in the middle or large size blocks like the quill in this video. You'll love the feel of your cotton and flannel quilt. You can absolutely finished your quilt with a binding. I have a rag quilt coming up that will have a narrow border. That might be an idea too. Thanks so much for following along! Is she using 3 layers of flannel. Or is the top layer regular cotton?
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 6 месяцев назад
This is three layers of flannel, Susan. It's lightweight flannel so it's not super heavy, but it sure keeps my grandson warm! The offset seams really look great in this quilt. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Maybe I’ll get answer. I have flannel 10insq s. Can I back with reg cotton not flannel? I plan to use batting
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
Absolutely, Sylvia! Be sure to secure the batting inside your two layers of fabric. The easiest way is to sew a large X from corner to corner. This will keep the batting in place and not slip around when it's used and washed.

What type of thread did you use? Also you said to use a # 16 needle, but in the Description it says to use a # 11 needle.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
Cotton thread is my go-to for all my quilting, Charlie. A size #16 is best for any rag quilting. It's my oversight to include a size #11 needle which is my standard size for general piecing. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Question my layer cake I want to us is pinked should I trim the pinking off?
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
Trimming off the points isn't necessary, Sylvia. Measure from the tips of the points to determine your seam allowance. Once you do the clipping it will ravel out and fray beautifully! Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise
