great video .it was to late for me i didnt notice until i had taken it off . i watched this it was a great help .i could not hire this tool so . first put on the rear seal . using 7 mm long bolts to guide me on and the inner sleeve that came with the new seal. i didnt bolt it up at this stage .i then checked my crankshaft was locked with the correct tool . then i put a line strait through the middle of the 6.oclock crankshaft bolt . and the 12 oclock bolt hole .i then used the locating tag that came with the new seal. and used that to line up my hole in the timing ring and outer housing . tapped it flush all the way round with the crankshaft . then used a small hammer and a dial gauge to get my 0.5mm from ring to the end of the crank. put it all back and it runs fine .thanks for you help
I replaced my transmission, clutch and rear main seal last weekend. Didn't know when the ring was for so I left it out 😂. It starts pretty rough but runs and drives fine. Looks like I'll be taking the transmission out again this weekend
Not a single video online shows you how to get to this point:) Trying to finds the steps to take the gearbox off, etc., 2001 audi tt quattro. Just spent 8 months rebuilding my engine, one seal left:)
The is the best video ever seen. I have replaced head gasket. After that I couldn’t get started my engine VW PASSAT 2.0 since from last one month. When I watched this video. I did same has the man telling about crankshaft sensor ring After did everything in order my engine is running and working fine I would like to say thank you the all information you been gave to me Thanks for this video
Hello. Amazing video. Will subscribe. May I ask a question about the crank sensor? My son's car via code is saying crankshaft sensor fault. So I replaced. It still cutting out. When I replaced it was full of oil. So was looking fir videos on rear crank seals to see if oil shoukd even be on the sensor. Then I noticed thst ring with teeth? If one of the teeth are broken will this cause faults? Will the set up in this video be the same for an audi a3 2020 1.6? If so I might replace the rear seal n that ring with the teeth?
You are my hero! realized i have to put the ring on in the right way but didn't find any usefull articles until i found this one :D I am gonna fit the seal tomorrow! :D
Another good video Chitty, the new forum is crap as you sold its a few years ago, there are no TDI Wiki links which is the same as in your other video's
Thats a great video thank you. whats the part number or what engine code is that seal for? because I want a metal aluminium one. I don't want to replace it with a plastic one. very informative video
Just today I had to fix and remove a transmission of a 2014 Polo diesel 4 times . It won't start after changing that. I had to go to VW for help. They did!
Very informative video, thank you very much indeed! Is it 100% essential that you have this Tool to put it in? And would you recommend putting Sealer across the bottom, and if so, just on the corners, or right the way across? Thanks once again!
Does someone have the part number? I am in Central America and without the part number it makes it very difficult to find it. Thanks. Will check in your forum as well.
This here video is for them diesels. My new rear main seal doesn't have that part for the crank sensor. So I can just plop it onto my 1.8t petrol engine without worry of it being at TDC or not. That's quite reassuring. Also I think smearing on some RTV in them corners would be our best bet. Doing this on my audi this weekend.
Just replaced the RMS on my Volkswagen Golf R. Also didn’t have the crank sensor, so I’m in the same boat as you. Hoping I didn’t need to align top dead center or any of the steps taken in the video. I just plopped my RMS in with a little bit of gasket sealant
An Excellent video. but can you please explain why do you need to tighten more? what if the space wasn't 0.5 mm (what will the engine be like after starting it)? i had the dealer change it for me, but i feel vibration in the engine and loss of power after repairing that seal. Rpm also decreases a little after switching ac on , and then regains its idle again.Any suggestions about the cause? it's a CAXA 1.4tsi engine 2010
Mohamed Reda Zaima the crankshaft tone ring is probably slightly misaligned. Needs to be redone most probably. Scanning the car for corelation errors would be the first step. Then the shop must look for actual waveforms of crank to cam and compare to known goods. But since this happened right after a rear main replacement, it probably is that.
My mechanic refil for me rear seal and clutch in vw caddy 2006 tdi.I drow this car 200m car stop and wont start again. Strange is ...after when cluth and seal was changin car start. After few hours when i come to colect vechicle engin start bat like i say after 200m drive stop.Whats problem is. Any id? Sory for my english. Hope you understod. Its may be problem is with to deap fit magnetic ring?,or do not right set t.belt on tdc?If magnetic ring is to deap engine may start?
I have attempted to fit a new rear main oil seal to my Golf 2.0 tdi BKD engine using this tool but when I fit the tool to the engine the black pin does not line up with a hole in the crankshaft, what have I done wrong? Engine is at TDC locked with correct locking tools.
I can confirm you need special tool for installation. I just eyed it up. Engine hard to start and revved poorly. Found a specialty hire shop. Now to do it again properly 🙄
any one know the tool number for the bjl 2.5 cr tdi engine used in the 2007 vw crafter and my other vehicles as the t10134 is slightly off centre as there is 8 flywheel bolts on the 2.5 tdi
Sorry but for me that hole on speed sensor ring need to be at 12 oclock does not matter if cams are 180 or 360 cose your crank shaft hole marke will be at 12 oclock anyway, one turn for crank then cams on 180 second full turn for crank and cams 360 then your mark still will be at 12 oclock only thing is the ring need to be lined up with mark on case but when u buy new one comes with plastick line up guide. Please correct me if i am wrong
Hey anyone know if this tool does the earlier style seals? I have a 2004 caddy bjb code 1.9tdi engine that has a crank position sensor on it...every tool I see for sale says 2006 and up! Thanks in advance 👌
Came across a broken plastic crank seal housing as I was doing the oil sump replacement. means Ive to take the gearbox out as well as having a specialized tool :( effort.. no good throwing on the new oil pan without it shoveling oil from behind the sump. fml
Hi I have a vw amarok 2.0 l TDI vehicle does not start it was idling I pressed accelerator I went to 2000 revealed and cut off won't start I crank it no power coming to injectors what can be the problem
Is that gap with the ring pushed deeper than the crank, because the flywheel sits flush to the crank. Picture looked as if ring was protruding off crank, if you understand, cheers.
@@kevinmcdermid1118I’m a field service engineer on forklift trucks only done one, I put it in by hand aligning the holes on the ring & cover plate, book says recess ring by 0.5mm, I did this with shim steel on the ring & used the flywheel to push the ring in until flywheel secured to crank.
Shouldn’t matter if you’re at TDC on cyl 1 or not. Just if your timing marks are at “0”. It would be 360 degrees out if not at TDC which shouldn’t matter….. right? About to do mine and find out!
hi I have changed the seal in my 2007 vw caddy done everything by the book with all the right tools but when I put the hole lot back together and went to start engine it turns over and over but doesn't start can anyone help me please
Wow, what an over engineered ridiculously over the top contraption to install such a flimsy piece of teflon in such a high pressure high importance location. WTF was VW thinking? Rube Goldberg design award submission?
I am not going to say VW makes bad cars/engines but they just make them so complicated compared to old engines,it simpley scares me how VW designed this. On my car i need a screw + screwdriver and plier to get the seal ring out and plastic hammer to get the new sealring in....For me as a mechanic these cars would never be a first choise i like things simple and solid, and not complicated like this.
Ive replaced lots of those without the tool. You just need to be careful. Also what a stupid design you cant just replace the seal you have to replace the whole set. Planned obsolescence
***** What I was trying to say that on my two cars (not volkswagens) I can replace the crankshaft seal with a screwdriver, a hammer and possibly a bit of wood. On one car I need 8mm socket - that is it. I do't understand why vw makes it so overly complicated. I wouldn't obviously attempt to do the job like the one on the video with a hammer as the engine would be probably fucked. I have to make my posts clearer sometimes I guess.
