Thanks so much! I’m a female that tries many things some men and most women wouldn’t think of repairing or building. I watched your video and ordered the replacement cartridge from Amazon. It worked like a charm! I did exactly what you said and I’m thrilled the dripping is resolved. More importantly, I learned something new
Your video was great! I was able to repair my leak with almost no surprises. I did find that the bonnet was frozen and, per your hint, I didn't want to apply much pressure (causing other issues). I did call Delta however. They are sending a new bonnet and a new cartridge absolutely free. They also suggested a vinegar soak on the frozen threads of the bonnet. I used a short piece of a sleeve cut off an old t-shirt. This gave me a little tube I could wrap around the frozen joint and then poured the vinegar on the cloth. They said to keep the area wet with vinegar and let it soak overnight. The next morning it popped right off and I was able to finish the repair in about 30 minutes. Thanks for your informative video.
Yes , did same thing going cheaper with the Danco equivalent instead of Delta and end up replacing it at 4 years and the Delta that I had lasted for about 17 years. So anyone reading my comment, I would go with Delta. This is my experience !! Also I have another shower that has a Delta cartridge that is still working with no leaking and it has been 18 years so far.
Perfect. I swapped it out 20-30minuts. Thanks for the tip about putting the handle back on to get the old cartridge out; the old thing did not want to budge. Christmas Eve Day Saved. Thank you and God bless.
Just an FYI if you have a gray cartridge you should be replacing it with another gray one (RP46074) if you have a white one you should be replacing it with white (RP19804). They look very similar.
Hello, the back portion of the cartridge stayed in the pipe. I can't get it out and it is breaking apart the more I pull on it. Have any ideas how I can get out?
Changed mine & water comes out of the shower head good, but, tub spout only small amt of cold comes out & the hot water comes out better but not good. ????
Hi Deborah, I do not have a tub on the unit I replaced. When you pull up the diverter for the shower, you get good flow from shower head but when you push it down and water flows to the tub fill spout you have little water flow. Did the tub work fine before you replaced the cartridge? Is water leaking around the cartridge when you have the diverter pushed down to fill the tub?
Can't get the set screw off the handle. Pb blaster wd 40. I have soft water.Tried everything. Bought the cartridge. Now I might have to call a plumber. Might have stripped it.
I had same problem, the screw would only turn a small amount each way, but discovered if you turn screw one way toward the right, the handle will come off
Hey Alfredo…. I know this sounds like a silly question but did you turn the water back on after you replaced your parts? If so, which I’m sure you did, I would look make sure the manufacture didn’t put plugs or dust caps in your cartridge. I don’t recall if mine had them or not but the only reason you would not have water out the shower head would be obstruction I believe.
@@thesavageoutback Yes, I turned the water back on, and checked for obstructions between the shower faucet and the shower head with an air compressor and everything is fine, so I don’t what could be the problem
Hey Byron…. Sorry to hear this!! Is there anything behind the new one in the valve body that could be blocking flow? I know it’s a silly question and please don’t be offended but did you turn the water back on after installing new valve? Is any water leaking around the valve? The only other thing I could think of is that the new valve is defective.
@@thesavageoutback thanks for the reply yeah i turned the water back on and nothing is blocking the valve i also think that the new one is defective and im wondering if that actually happens
@@byzon123 it would be odd to get a defective new valve but trust me…. If that could ever happen it would happen to me as well. If you put the old valve back in and have flow then it has to be the new valve is defective.
@@thesavageoutback when i had the old one in i had flow it had a broken screw for the handle thats why im changing it new one went in easily enough but only get a bit of water coming out and cant even turn it off the small flow i get
