Thanks for the good stuff, Red. I appreciated all the subtle install tips, along with the safety notes. This was probably one of the more comprehensive HPFP install videos I've watched. The only thing I'd ask for in future vids is better camera angles for the items you're talking about. Salamat!
Nice video. I also have one similar to this. I would recommend pulling the fuel pump fuse so you don’t have to worry about fuel spray or just disconnecting the battery!
We did this repair on a 2011 X3 35i 2:33 - had to remove intake. Replaced pump - did not replace intake manifold gaskets because son didn’t want to spend to extra money- car runs good no but it only idles now because the gas pedal doesn’t work now - any suggestions? Thank you for the great video.
Don't ever use a junkyard pump. You might damage your fuel injectors and from there even the engine. If you do it yourself at least buy the original new pump. eBay rebuilt pumps don't work either. I had customers supply them and I've never seen one work properly
Excellent video in real time. You're an awesome instructor. Will this be exactly the same for a 2011 X3 35? Where is your shop at and how much doe a job like this cost? My son is in Texas and I have to get it done for him. Thanks in advance!!!
Crazy, Im already researching if I can bring tools in the check-in baggage on the plane so I can go do this on his 2011 X3 35. He sent me a video and I can clearly see the HPFP so remove the throttle body and leave the intake in place. This video has got me ordering the part and the plane ticket already. I thought it was gonna be a bigger job than that. My son already replaced the fuel rail sensor with me on Face time but that didnt fix it. The fix is on.
I replaced my hpfp and now I'm getting errors with the quantity control valve2, line break. The adapter was used for an aftermarket Bosch hpfp. It was shrink-wrapped etc. The mixture is too lean. I have an f02 and no one talks about this issue.
Wondering if there is a fuel pump modulator that needs to be replaced? They changed fuel pump but car is still having issues. They say it mite be the modulator and when replacing pump you will need a new modulator. What do you think.
They typically don't have that issue. They have wear out in valvetronic system on the early models. It misfires on the cold start and goes away when it warms up. You can do min lift adjustment if it hasn't been done yet.
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 yeah thanks i just saw a vid on it .. i can check and see if its not working with a battery .if not working it seem to be just a replacement . but ill do that BMW shop lol
Hi and thx .. I did not understand something. If you disconnected the battery why are you claiming the fuel pump will still prime when the door is opened? I'd really appreciate a reply and thx again 2011 335is n54
Thank for that great inf and help the community , I have question I have 2011 bmw f10 535i x drive m sport package and got Issue and the 3 code I have is 11A002 119308 119404 I change high pressure rail sensor but still apear messenger say that drive train malfunction i figure out I need to change HPFP Are you recommended any specific aftermarket or genuine ?
So on my 535xi I get the code p302c and p15df bank 1 and I was wondering if u can help me figure out what exactly might be the problem for those codes?
Hello Red I have the following OBD DTCs: 0029F2 0029F5 002AEC 002C7F Are they enough to change the HPFP or is the NOX sensor that is leading to put the car in Check engine light and running ∆=1 in an emergency mode ? The car goes normal but when I floor it the MIL appears on cluster Congrats for your channel and thanks in advance E92 N53B30UL 218 hp 2008 250.000 kms. BimmerN53
Hi there, we don't have diesel e92 in US. Typically nox sensors don't throw the vehicle in limp mode. It's more of the emission system check for the efficiency of the exhaust filter (diesel particular filter). Diesel vehicles also commonly have issues with low fuel pressure pump, fuel filter being clogged and leaking fuel injectors. Id say get is diagnosed by a specialized shop. Diesel models are very complex
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 Hi, Thank's a lot for your reply, but my E92 is gasoline not Diesel the N53 is not sold in the US but is NA's direct injected 3 liters 6 cilinder engine. I will change fuel filter "gasoline" !!!! and see Thank you very much BimmerN53
hi I'm having similar issue at light throttle it starts hesitating and jerking hard and If I press the gas harder it smooths out im also getting a 29D9 code that says misfire at low fuel tank level do you think mine is the hpfp as well?
Dealership is way overpriced when it comes to hpfp. My favorite sites would be FCPEURO and ECSTuning. Do not buy one of eBay. I've had so many customers that bought it off eBay and I'd like to say every single one of them failed within a month or never worked at all. They sell as a rebuilt but they simply don't work.
Hi! Great video! Thanks for sharing! What if i got good pressure but the car is running very rich (smoking black) when you drive it has great power and not rich any more. could it still be the hpfp? I also smell gas in the oil. Thank you!
Depending what year. N57 has the chain in the back. M57 has the front chain but also it's a different job. Also required special tools for it. Hpfp on the diesel is pumping a lot more fuel
Typically a failed crankcase ventilation valve would cause whistle (sounding like belt) noise. You can measure the engine vacuum or at least slightly open the oil cap while the engine is running. If noise goes away and you feel an extreme vacuum while trying to open the cap it's your CCV valve.
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 Thanks for the response. They checked it in the official service, they said that it works for now, but soon it needs to be changed CCV.there are no errors. but, there is a slight shaking on a cold start. I will be grateful if you write your opinion. many thanks
1. Check your spark plugs. You might have leaking fuel injectors. Make sure they are all the same color and don't have built ups. Try new plugs as well since you'll have them out. If one of the plugs is black and looks different from theirs then find out what causes that on that cylinder. That's a very problematic engine overall but plugs will give you a good feedback about each cylinder.
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 Thank you. Tomorrow morning they will give a final answer. Tomorrow I will check the spark plugs and coils and share with you if you don't mind. thanks
I was praying to god you specified what type of 5mm hex , Allen, socket?! Everyone y’all almost showed the back of the bolt it was either blurry or you showed it quick asf smh
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 The videography is fine. You know...sadly, there's always somebody hellbent on sniffing out fault. In this case, if it's not obviously Scorsese behind the camera, that's good enough to whine. If the camera doesn't instantly automatically focus on the subject of the moment, that's the whiner's greenlight to do what they do best. Thanks for the vid. Good stuff. I recently bought an '09 135i with 89K miles. It's got a few of the typical mods (still need to inspect more thoroughly, but a brief browsing reveals it has aftermarket exhaust, dual-cone AFs, upgraded IC, charge pipes and possibly downpipe. This is my first BMW, so I'm still learning its particulars. And because it gives a nice burble on deceleration, I suspect it's got a flash tune? It runs very smooth, has great power, doesn't smoke, had no stored engine codes (after a few months and about 1.5K miles of driving since bought), and only drips an occasional drop or two of oil onto the ground. I do see a small puddle of oil at the top of the oil filter housing, which tells me it's likely the original. So...only having some of the basic info from the seller on a few of the mods, none of which mentioned changing/upgrading the handful of known failure parts (injectors, HPFP, oil filter housing gaskets, water pump, and ?), I don't know if the HPFP is the original. I can see a number on it. Do you know if there's a resource that can tell by that number whether the HPFP is original or a replacement?
@@Stiffler1109 Thanks for the feedback. BMW has been rebuilding and changing the part number on the hpfp several times now. So finding the part number might not help. Also BMW dealership takes the core back to rebuild it again and you might have two part numbers on the pump. So you could find the one you aren't looking for. If it doesn't givey out trouble I'd leave it alone and not worry about it. On the other end take care of the oil leak. If the filter housing is leaking it might damage water pump and cooling hoses that could cost you thousands to replace. Water pump failure is extremely common from the leaking filter housing gasket.
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 Great info, thank you. I've read that elsewhere on the importance of the filter housing oil leak and that makes sense, so thanks for the reminder. I'll make that the #1 priority.
@@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 went through 2 water pumps till i figured out the oil leaking from the housing was dripping unto the plastic part of the water pump, cooking and cracking it when engine got hot from running , was a nightmare but that's when you DIY, HPFP just shot on me today left me stranded no power and the fuel pump codes on MHD scanner, got a pump and will tackle this job in the next day or so thanks for guide, just need to find some of those long hex locally
