I built my riser a year ago and put Jamo S 808 low profile subwoofers under each seat. There are three theater seats in the front row and the riser in the back has 4 more theater recilners. I created "port holes" in the box and aligned the holes to be exactly under the seats, so the bass could easily hit the bottom of my home theater seats and listener could easily feel the rumble and the vibrations. The results are very impressive. Everyone who has watched a movie or a game in my home theater is thoroughly impressed. These under the seat subs are other than the regular subs that I have. By the way I picked these subs up (7 of them, 3 for the front row and 4 for the rear raised seats for $600 out the door). My only concern was how the heat is going to be dissipated but so far I have had no issues with the sub amps overheating. I have all the amps set permanently at 50% output only and don't overdrive them.

Sounds like a pretty killer setup! I always wanted to put subs in my couches and recliners. I recently put one in our sectional upstairs and it works out great but I have yet to try one in any of the theater seating. And it sounds like you really scored on your purchase. Nice!

This video is great along with all the others showing how to build a home theater riser. However, word to others who want to build one of these, we followed the instructions here and again, very good if you've never had the pleasure of building one (sarcasm). Once you're done though, this thing is VERY HEAVY!!! We built ours to put 3 home theater seats so it was probably a bit longer than the one built in this video. So make sure you either build it in pieces or just build the entire thing where it's going to live. We did ours in the garage and then moved it to the theater room. Luckily I had my two grown boys to help me transport it. Nonetheless, the instructions here are great, can't go wrong if you have some tools, a way to transport the wood (we had to rent a truck) and definitely take your time.

Really awesome video, some great tips. I love the way you did the corners on your carpet piece, that is probably the hardest part of getting the carpet to fit together seamlessly. The only thing that I would mention, is to have your electrical line in come kind of conduit, you don't want just electrical wire hanging out in the room, but this is just my personal opinion, other than that everything came out perfect.

Thank you for doing this video. You have completely inspired me to build my own riser for my home theater 2nd row of seats. I was going to just purchase pre-built ones from a company, but this is completely doable for me the way you showed it. Thank you!

Which company were you going to buy your riser from?
@rodman1848

Cool build, thanks for the video! The riser should really have extended to the next row of seating, provide at walkway of some kind. 3ft wide is preferred, 18" bare minimum. Having a little 6" wide lip is weird. And it's probably not really necessary to insulate.

oh very nice and thinking of re-doing mine when I get the time. The thick carpet is going to be a harvest for dust. So got vacuum clean each and ever day. I use thin carpet tiles thou my cats think its an extension scratching post to the one in the hallway. Mine was made using bits and pieces put together and has lasted well but, am I unhappy with it and unhappy? I think I keep it I see no sense doing one again and it won't make me feel any happier.

Hi Nils great video. I built a riser just like this a while back. The problem I have is power cord organization for the chairs, especially the front row on the floor. Do you have a way of keeping those clean and out of the way of chair recline movement? Thanks

I'm doing something similar and was wondering about your LED lighting. I ordered the Phillips Hue lights that go around our TV but thought it would be good to have the Phillips LED strip lights as well for our seats... Until I saw how much they want for only a 6 ft strip!! Almost $200 for a two pack (2 x 6ft). Do you have any suggestions for the chair lighting? I noticed you are only lighting the front. Our front chairs are approx 6.5 ft and the back is around 7 ft. I might be able to use the Philips Hue 6 ft strip but not go all the way across and possibly center it? I know there are a lot of other cheaper options for LED lighting

Good stuff, very helpful. It looks like you simply set the riser on the existing carpet? You didn't secure it to the floor or wall, etc.?
@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 2 года назад
Correct. It just sits on the carpet and is free floating. It weighs so much (especially with the chairs on top) that it hasn’t moved a millimeter.

Any way you could provide your room measurements and box riser measurements?
@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 2 года назад
Sure thing. The room is 15 1/2’ W x 18 1/2’ D (to back of chairs). The Riser is 10” H x 94” W x 41” D. Two things to note: 1) the distance between the back of the front row and the riser is 34" and 2) when we recline in the back row, the front row folks are in the way unless they're also reclined. As a result, we leave the front row reclined all the time and ask anyone in the front row to stay reclined. Possible solution: make the riser taller (maybe 12-14"?). Best of luck with your build!

So this is the next best thing... which I know I can do. I used to "Flip" RVs (17 in the last 30 years) so this would be Great... and CUSTOM too.

Thanks for the very helpful, and simple How-To video. Question. What is the black plug thing-y actually called? It looks like the head of a plug, but you opened it up to expose the fittings to wire to. Can you provide what its actually called or at least the link where I can purchase it from?

If you make a hollow box it's going to echo a lot of noise when you move around. The insulation is to dampen sound.

The riser is too short front to back. Needs more foot room to get up and out of the chair. I can see someone falling flat on their face or twisting their ankle if they are in a hurry when getting off of the chairs. I mean the guys foot hangs over the riser.
