6.5 Year review Polycuramine Rust-oleum floor coating : Garage coating, fading, shine, durability
• 6.5 Year review Polycu...
This video shows how to prepare and apply a Polycuramine or Epoxy floor kit on cement. I did the Epoxy in my last garage, and this Polycuramine is very similar. The epoxy starts to harden faster, but the Polycuramine actually cures faster overall.
Things you will need to buy that are not included in the kit:
*paint roller handle (buy 2 in case one breaks. If the kit has been mixed and starts hardening you're stuck if it breaks).
*paint roller pole
*small brush for painting cracks
*Small bucket for painting the cracks
*Painters tape
* bristle broom

Great Video! I plan on using this product and rolling it on thick like you did. Would you recommend a clear coat ontop of this? It looks like you put one on already with how glossy it came out. Love the look, just wondering if you would add a coat of clear just to have more protection or just using this product is good enough.

Danny, very impressive. I've bought twice the amount for my 2 car garage and would like the thickness you received from your application, as a guide and general rule, can you confirm the pour ribbon you used (i.e., 3 " per pour, 1 foot per, etc.) when rolling on the coating? Thanks is advance!

Yes, 13:38 in the video shows how I applied it- working best to be perpendicular to the ribbon. I would not pour a ribbon more than 3-4’ and do the ribbons about 3 feet apart

Good job. I have a few questions. I did my floors about ten years ago with Rust-Oleum 2 part epoxy. It’s time to redo it again. I have pressure washed the floor and and got about 30% of the old paint off. Do I need to take the rest off or can I paint over it with the same product again? I know Rust-Oleum sells a primer, but that’s for floors that are already painted and since I have areas that are bare concrete I’m not sure if I can use it. If I need to strip the rest, what do you recommend using? Thank you.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 6 лет назад
I would do your best to remove the rest so it isn't an uneven surface. If the rest does not come off, it may be okay BUT you will have to score and ruff up the existing expoxy in order for the new coating to stick and not flake off. I think the best decision would be to remove all existing epoxy if possible.

I have very similar control joints in my garage floor, and it looks like you were pretty intentional about painting into those cracks. How has the rocksolid product held up in the cracks? Any cracking, peeling, chipping in there? Also, when did you remove the tape? Did you walk on it 8 hours after applying and remove tape then? Did you purchase a back up roller when you had to replace the one provided in the kit?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 4 года назад
I made a 1 year review you can see as well (see the link below). I waited the recommended time to walk (and learned from my epoxy the time before this to wait longer to park the car). I would remove the tape as soon as possible, before the full cure time, as soon as it’s not runny. I failed to do that in some places and it’s still glued to the floor now with the coating. The roller was okay, but I had broken the roller handle and had to rush into town so I continued to paint the cracks while my wife went and got one.

I'm wondering, why so many seams in your floor? I understand it helps to keep cracks from spreading. It looks great by the way. It just seems like they would collect a lot a dirt and debris. Was that a preference of yours? Or the concrete guys that recommended it?

I did mine with the same kit, but gray color. Had an issue with the color darkening up with every pass I did, even with the same batch. So now my garage has 4 different color stripes (light gray, medium, dark, and light gray). First batch went down in under 45 minutes, finished with second batch in about 20 minutes. Really bummed how it turned out. I did contact Rustoleum, so, waiting to hear what they say. Ever hear of this problem, or have any thoughts on the issue. Everything was done by the book, thoroughly mixed, newly constructed house, pad had close to 3 months cure time. Product cured like glass, just didn't retain uniform color.

After contacting Rustoleum, they're sending me a refund check and told me I can go over it with another kit. Need to scuff sand with 80 or 100 grit, then solvent wipe. I'll be dividing the kit into 4 equal parts and doing each 1/4 of the floor one at a time.

can you please tell me your total SQ ft of garage space. Are your individual squares 4 or 5ft? I have a 672 sq ft garage and see you needed 3 kits. I am told I will only need 2x 2.5 kits or 4 individual kits. This wouldn't be an issue however I want to mix all the color packets together to ensure even color match on the entire floor. I don't want to waste money on kits not needed that I cannot return. Thank you in advance for your help
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 6 лет назад
Richard Gibson mine is about 787 square feet. Make sure you only mix one kit at a time or it will harden before you can even finish one kit
@richardgibson8190
@richardgibson8190 6 лет назад
I will only do one kit mixed at a time. What rocksolid is telling me is I should open all part b packs and mix them together and then break them up in even amounts into seperate pails. This is to ensure matched color. They then said to mix part A to one pail at a time and this should ensure even color through the entire garage. I just want to make sure 2x 2.5 kits will be enough and 2x clear kits as well. I appreciate your response to my question. looks like you got 131 sq ft from each pack if in fact you used 3 full kits. Was there any waste? With 2 x2.5 kits I will need to get over 150 sq ft per kit. Were you stretching it to have even coverage? Sorry for all the questions I just want to ensure I have enough product. Maybe a extra 1 car kit will be necessary. the problem is if I open the 5th 1 car kit and mix all the part B pouches to match color then if it was not necessary i wasted $100
@richardgibson8190
@richardgibson8190 6 лет назад
Im not sure what the color side is A or B.. I may be wrong in my previous question. Rust Olium recommends mixing all the color pouches together and then dividing the contents evenly into pails for mixture with the opposite pouch
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 6 лет назад
Richard Gibson I am not sure which was the color side as the kits were rolled into eachother and shaken before I opened the bag. I see your dilema not wanting to open more kits than needed. My color match was perfectly fine and I was okay simply mixing and applying one kit at a time. I ended up using 3 kits with a tad left over. It definitely took more than what was suggested in my case. I kept applying until I saw the Gray cement disappear. Be careful on the seams as it runs and I have a few areas where some concrete shows through. I would do one kit at a time and buy an extra kit you can return.

I've drank bleach and also hydrogen peroxide and oh deck cleaner (which was so powerful btw it could make holes in my clothing)... and I've worked in a basement before with a shitload of bleach and comet. My eyes teared up lots and bubbles came out of my mouth. I then put on swimming goggles and kept going, breathing that shit in with foam bubbles falling from my mouth. I am somehow still alive and I healed myself of all the damage from the basement cleaning incident via trancework later though I still have my lower-right part of my lung fucked up from a previous incident. I am used like a slave and nobody gives a fuck to provide me with proper equipment. One day I'd like to get a gasmask with my own money. I have very little clothing and would be homeless btw if not for people taking me in and all my clothing I have is black but you can see many splotches all over from various acids I've worked with in the past, orange and whitish-gray splotches. Something weird about me is I have really dark blond hair naturally but it will not change a shade at all even if I keep 100% concentrated bleach on it all day and spray it multiple times each time the bleach dries out. My hair is invulnerable to changing colours. I even tried out a dye once to see if that would change it but it didn't change at all, the dye can't adhere to my hair or something, and it was a permanent dye btw not a kind that washes out eventually. I don't know what the fuck it up with my life but there are a lot of strange things about me where physics just doesn't seem to apply like it normally would. Some people when they find out some of the anomalous phenomena I can produce have lots of respect, some just share similar stories of things like this in their own life, most however get really afraid of me (especially older people, like anyone above 40). I've got rubbing alcohol and various acids also into my eyes and also essential oils (including mint essential and orange essential oil) and it hurt a lot but didn't change my vision and it I manage to wash it out taking maybe an hour in some cases to do so. Oh I've also stared at the sun during the peak hours of day when it's most intense and it made tears run down my eyes but it didn't make me go blind or change my vision at all, lots of people are afraid to even look at eclipse and think they're going to go blind or some shit, that said I live in very far north climate so even during the summer the sun isn't that intense here, it would be a very different matter if one were staring at the sun while living near the equator. There are many other strange things I could say about me but this is all my stories concerning working with dangerous acids and somehow not being dead. Maybe one day some big environmental disaster could happen like chlorine gas attack and kill lots of people and I'd still make it through somehow because of higher resistance to this stuff.
