I'm patiently awaiting the Panasonic GH6's coming out. We stopped using our Canon 80D because Jarrett's Iphone 12 pro MAX was SOOO much nicer. We also just built two new editing rigs for Jarrett and I, because he is great at color grading and making things fancy, but is not totally up to speed with multi cam editing. We are both a bit OCD when it comes to our video and we were both quite happy with this one!

If you put the battery together like this I saw a video where they said cell one, or mby it was cell 4,, would charge and discharge alot more than the other cells making it wear out faster. If you put four batteries in series, group of 3, you can connect all three packs to a busbar, all negatives to one bus bar and all positives to another busbar, in parallell, and charge/ discharge at a much closer lvl. But i think you would need three bms, one for each. But this again would drain the first cell in each pack faster than the other cells, so im not sure what to think.
@toroddlnning6806
@toroddlnning6806 Год назад
the best would probably be to onnect all of them in parallell, creating a huge 3.4v battery, using onne bms and one bussbar for all positives and one for all negatives.

This was an excellent video with very good information, clear instructions, and the production quality is far better than most. In fact, it was so good that I was surprised by one thing you didn't do. I honestly thought you would put some kind of barrier in-between the main positive and main negative terminals. With the configuration you chose, you have a very large amount of current terminating VERY close to one another. You mentioned dropping a wrench in there, but since those are so close together, a piece of metal just 3 or 4 inches long would cause a serious problem. I would place a piece of thin cutting board material in-between the cells and also cover the bus bars that are connected to your main positive and main negative terminals.
@kimmer6
@kimmer6 3 года назад
I drilled and tapped my bus bars for 8-32 screws 3/8'' long. They come from underneath the bar and provide a nice stud for the little red 16 gage ring connectors that actually fit the BMS wires. The battery terminals are all as tight and undisturbed as possible without having those weak soft ring terminals attached. At one time I tried active balancers and the 8-32 posts were so handy.

@@HighTechLab There are two issue with crude split chargers used to charge Lithium - the first is the lithium will take all the charge your alternator can dish out when empty and lead to premature alternator failure - the second is as the lithium fill the charge will drop off - its unlikely to ever fully charge which means it wont top balance - a DC to DC charger will take whatever voltage arrives as long as its at least 8volts and charge you batteries with a bulk and then constant voltage charge filling them completely and letting them balance - Lithium batteries don't like trickle charge - it will also stop your alternator being overloaded by capping the demand - think about it charging your lithium with a lead acid profile at the end of a long cable and its associate voltage drop is never going to match your packs needs

Excellent video. Stupid question for you...The BMS only has 4 positive leads. This means that you are not monitoring individual cells. You are monitoring a group of cells that equal about 3 volts. Yeah? How does the BMS know if 1 cell in that group of 3 is more or less charged?
@HighTechLab

All three cells in the group will be at equal charge. If for some reason one cell goes bad you will see the whole group drop off and then you can take further steps from there.

Not necessary. The balance current is so insignificant that there would not be any voltage drop along their length, and therefore any voltage readings taken at the BMS end are identical to the actual cell voltage, and therefore perfectly valid.

i think top balancing is still needed for LFP, 3.2v cannot be justify the capacity inside, it can be a huge different in capacity. previously i build a 48v 200ah LFP battery bank, and i think i dont need top balancing as all cell seat across the same voltage range, but when i connect the charger (56v 100a) , there were few cell voltage rise very quick as the capacity is different with other cell, so the BMS has to cut off the current to protect the battery. i have to leave the battery pack for few days (or dissemble the pack and proper top balance it) to let the BMS slowly balance it. If i do top balancing at the beginning, then this scene will not happen.

@karl5tewart
@karl5tewart 3 года назад
Totally agree with these comments Wen. 3.2V on all cells really doesn't tell you anything about the state of charge of them. And I think the suggestion that the balance feature will even them out is slightly misleading. Doesn't the Daly only balance when charging (or above about 3.4v)? So you'd have to charge the pack, but not at a rate that exceeds the max balance current else the higher charged cell will go over voltage. Really don't see the point of piddly balance currents, can't see that they really achieve anything. Much better to top balance before hand, or use active balancer that can balance in the order of 2A.
@wenhaowong5549
@wenhaowong5549 3 года назад
@@karl5tewart yes, Daly only start balancing when charging, luckily I use JBD Bms which able to start balancing the battery in any condition. Personally I would avoid to use Daly BMS.
@karl5tewart
@karl5tewart 3 года назад
Yeh, I'm going with JBD also in part for that reason, although still not convinced about passive balancing. But my loads will be very small (RV) so suspect not likely to have divergence of charge state, plus I will top balance before, and savvy enough to keep an eye on it through its lifetime.

I use vinyl electrical tape in 1-1/2in wide to cover the bus bars and battery terminals. Next time I think I'll use kapton (polyamide - yellowish transparent) in 2in wide as the vinyl tape tends to unstick and curl up. I saw one project where bicycle inner tube and zip ties were used as covering. I strongly recommend *something*, even just some duct tape would be better than leave that much high current potential exposed for the next "Oops!" to happen.

Danger of explosion with install. The reason you have a wire floor in that compartment from the manufacturer is that it shares a location with the propane tanks, Propane drains down when it leaks out. You jsut plugged up 95% or maybe more of that capability. I couldn't tell if there is a wire floor in the propane portion or not, but you just killed a good bit if not all the safety margin.

If you build a 12 Volt battery using 280AH cells, and then wire several batteries in series, how many can be in the battery bank before 4/0 wire can't handle the Ampacity? At some point, do the batteries need to be wired in parallel, i.e. 24 Volts, in order to keep the Amps lower?
@BillyGrayNC
@BillyGrayNC 3 года назад
If you wire them in series the voltages will sum, i.e., two 12V 280AH batteries in series will be a 24V 280AH battery or four 12V batteries in series will be a 48V 280AH battery. If you wire them in parallel the voltage will stay at 12V, but the capacities will sum, i.e., two 12V 280AH batteries in parallel will be a 12V 560AH battery. The cable capacity doesn't just depend on the gauge of the wire, but also the length of it, you have to consult the tables.
