Wow! Thank you so much. Exactly what I was looking for only way better. I scoured the internet for hours looking for something similar that wasn't expensive or daunting. And I almost spent $12 on a can of spray paint that probably wouldn't have turned out exactly how I wanted. Now I don't have to spend a penny since I already have everything needed. Thank you thank you thank you.

Unfortunately, you can't use these as candle jars the heat is not safe on the mod podge. You're much better off getting fire safe containers and then using a sea glass spray paint on the outside before you make candles.

Hi there! ☺️ What did you use to get the air bubbles out? Did you just pop them? Thanks in advanced!
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 2 года назад
Starting with the less amount of bubbles is optimal so trying to roller or tap your mod podge and not stir it a lot when adding color to limit the bubbles you make. You can use a toothpick for larger bubbles or a hair dryer to try to get the small bubbles. If your solution is still very bubbling try painting the solution on! Hope that helps.

@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 3 года назад
I've never tried it on the outside of a glass but I think it might be hard to get a very soothe coat on the outside of the glass. If you use this technique you can't use it to put food or drink in because of the modpodge. But I do know they sell sea glass paint sprays that look beautiful so you may want to consider trying that and you can use that on the exterior.
@at0micbunnygirl
@at0micbunnygirl Год назад
If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely could apply this to the outside of the glass. It's no different than using mod podge for decoupage. Just use a wide craft brush with soft bristles (the gold teklon with blue handles from Michaels work well). Apply with as few strokes as possible, with a thin coat. Then you could apply a sealer afterwards to make it waterproof.

Rebecca, I loved that using food coloring has same effects as glass coloring inks. How can I do it so that lots of air bubbles come up & stay on? I’ll be doing some clear bottles for LED micro lights. Thought that air bubbles would add to the glimmering?
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 3 года назад
Thanks so much! If you want to create the bubbles it may be hard to control where they end up and the texture. My guess is the more air you get in the glue mixture the better it will be at creating bubbles. You could try a straw and blow in extra air and try not to pop the bubbles when you coat the glass. Hope it works! Tag me @stuff.moms.have.time.for with your finished product!
@nitab2376
@nitab2376 3 года назад
Rebecca, Sorry to bother you again. Hopefully you can help. I have not colored my bottles yet. I’m experimenting with one jar. The mixture seemed too thick. When I allow the glass to drip for 1 1/2 hr face down on parchment a lot of the mix is piled inside. Is this normal? Or is it because the mixture is too thick? Is it OK to thin out the mixture with a few drops of water? Then apply? I don’t recall you giving exact measurements of Mod Podge and # of color drops? Did I miss that? Look forward to your directions. Much appreciated.
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 3 года назад
@@nitab2376 it is quite a thick mixture. I'm not sure I would add water only because I'm not 100% sure what that would do to it. If anything I would put it on a clean parchment paper and let it go for longer, maybe even overnight if you have time time and it seems like a lot of glue is left. There is really no correct amount to use it's just whatever you need to coat the glass you are using. Give it some more time upside down and then check again. As long as it is still not actively dripping or a lot of mod podge on the paper left you can put them oven low temp for a hour or so.

You talk about taking the bubbles out? How did you d that? It looked like really didn’t have much mixture to use so we’re just guessing how much to use?
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 2 года назад
The easiest way to take the bubbles out to slowly coat the inside of the glass and then tap the glass upsidedown to get the bubbles out. Once the sides are coated you can remove any remaining bubbles with a toothpick. As for the solution you only need enough to cover the inside of the glass you are using. Since every glass people use is different there is no exact measurement. All surfaces should just have a think coating. Hope this helps!

@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 2 года назад
Hey Tina, the best thing to do get as many bubbles out of the modpodge before you even start. A lot of people shake it to make sure it's fully mixed but that creates a lot of bubbles. I would suggest tapping it really hard to get your mod podge as smooth as possible or roll the bottle along the counter to get bubbles out Then when you add color stir it as little as possible to not add more. If you still have a lot of bubbles you can trying hitting it up with a dryer. Or use a paintbrush to get it as smooth as possible.

If you haven't already tried this yet, I'm sure soaking it in hot water, then scrubbing with soap or running it thru the dishwasher would remove the coating. It's a water-based glue so it will come off glass with water.

@@at0micbunnygirl Thank you for your reply. I did soak the turquoise one in hot water and the coating came off easily. The next attempt was a bit more like the royal blue I wanted for my red, white and blue theme.

Can I use thin glass in the oven as well??

You can use any glass as long as it is heat resistant. It's a low temperature on the oven so as long as it is dishwasher safe it is probably also safe to do this technique at 150 degrees

Can these be broken to use in a mosaic?

I don't see why not. I made these back and February and they still look exactly the same. I would not store them anywhere very warm however. Since it is a glue base you don't want anything to melt in the sun.

Can you use paint instead of food coloring ?

I have never tried it with paint as the coloring, so I do not know how it would turn out. If you want another easy way to get stained glass Krylon sells a stained glass/ sea glass spray paint in several different colors you spray on the exterior of glass to for the same effect!

How do you get the bubbles out? I’m having this issue 😅
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor
@StuffMomsHaveTimeFor 2 года назад
A lot of people seems to be having this issue. The easiest way to fix it is either to start out with very smooth mod podge and if you add color stir slow as to avoid creating more bubbles. Sometimes rolling the mod podge container across the counter can take some of the bubbles out of the solution. Try not to shake the solution as it will create bubbles and make it harder for you to get them out. If there are any big bubbles you can take them out with a toothpick or sometimes you can be successful as well if you paint it on the inside as long as it is a thicker coat.

Could I put a candle in the jar after I have tinted it

Because it is modpodge I would not put and open flame in the container. You could use LED tea lights tho!
