DIY shoe making Happy Feet 

Interesting video. Back in the late 1970's I used to make "shoes" (moccasins) for my wife that were similar in design. I used two layers of leather for the soles. The inner sole was a medium weight vegetable tanned leather. The outer was quite heavy Bison leather. No rubber between the foot and the earth prevents blocking the electrical path of the body to the ground.

I wish the lighting were better. Thanks for the tutorial. I'm really looking at doing this. I have really really wide feet, high arch and a bunion to top it off (from wearing the wrong shoes all my life!) Shoe shopping at the box stores is NOT fun! I'm also researching a lot on the art of wearing barefoot shoes.

These look so comfy. They would be great for driving, and for hanging out at the home. I would think more of a hard sole might be needed for going out.

I know this shoe design have some room for improvements, so thanks for a suggestions, they are welcome of course. I wish to have a grandfather or somebody from a shoemaking craft so I could learn more about it. For now I did like this challenge of making new design, and I can't wait to try and learn something new.

I had a pair of shoes similar with the seam running down the middle of the top exposed. The were by far my most favorite pair of shoes I’ve ever worn. I’m a professional painter and their charm was covered in layers of paint which I regret made them unwearable outside of work. I thought I’d be able to find that same shoe design but not until now have I seen anything like them. I might use this video to make my own, thank you tutorial girl!

I bought this pattern from craftsy 3 1/2 years ago and I am still wearing and loving the two pair I made. I have desperately tried to find it in my downloads and in my craftsy account or Etsy with no luck. Great prototype. I would suggest doubling up the leather so that is keep it form, or adding a leather lining specially since its a flat... also your stitches inside would not be felt do to the lining... Ill get your pattern and work with my father and grandfather (both season shoemakers...to see how we can maintain the integrity of the design and add some support so DIy can do it at home...but what i see o in the video is great and looks extra conformable Adios from Dominican Republic..

I think it is a pig skin, and its 3.5 mm with two leathers, so really nice thickness for shoes. I did use upholstery leader scraps for this project.

My first pair of sandals used thick rawhide for the sole. I like the design but would like a more straight forward design for the guys. I had a pair of shoes with gum rubber soles that were made with two pieces of leather and sewn down the middle and heel and were wide. Wish I could find another pair like that. Similar design here but with a curved line rather than a center line. Might try my hand again at making a pair of simple shoes and then try the same design in hand spun and woven linen cloth. I liked your cloth version and liked the jeans and felt between for an inner piece. Could use that idea for regular shoe inserts. :)

All shoes can be made out of RECYCLABLE materials like second hand leather,vinyl or leather.Recycle bins are sources of recyclable leather and vinyl (old leather or vinyl purses or old leather or vinyl jackets).Also old vinyl sophas that people throw out are good sources of recyclable vinly.However.The cusions of an old vinyl sopha are a good source of recyclable vinyl however ANY type of second hand furnature need to be thoroughly washed and disinfected before using.Second hand furniture can have bed bugs on them.However they can be thoroughly washed out in a bath of hot water.When transporting any second hand furniture please wear plastic (not rubber) gloves.Wearing rubber items can cause deadly allergic reactions in some people.Please wear plastic gloves when handling second hand furniture and please keep the item at arm's length from you as you carry it home.Also please put the second hand item of furniture STRAIGHT INTO A BATH OF HOT WATER and please don't let it sit anywhere in your house before being thoroughly washed and disinfected (with bleach).Letting a second hand piece of furniture sit in your house(or apartment) before thoroughly washing it out in hot water and disinfecting it with bleach can spread bed bugs into your house or apartment.Bed Bugs don't spread disease however most people DONT want them in their house(s) or apartment(s) for obvious reasons.Also when disinfecting with bleach please wear a mask and only use bleach in well ventilated areas.I found out this information about bed bugs when researching how to get rid of household pests online.Second hand stores are also a good source of second hand leather ,vinyl or possibly even rubber.However one has to PAY for those items and all the above precautions still apply.

Not for now, I make just a prototype and patterns for all ok almost all sizes. From 36 to 42, that is for me a lot sizes. But I have a plan for two more tutorials about these model. One more pattern and one how to sew them in sewing machine.....but you need to stay tuned, because I can't promise when I will make my big plans. Can you provide a list of supplies needed to complete one pair of shoes, please? What weight leather is needed for upper? Chrome or vegetable tanned? Artificial sinew or waxed linen thread? What weight leather for lining and insole? What weight leather for topsole? What do you use for outer sole? Also, the video is very well done, but stopped abruptly before the finished product was shown. Thank you!

what material do you use for the rubber soles? Rubber, of course, but I've looked around and found things like 'neoprene' and very very thin (one millimeter) rubber sheets and none of it is cheap, so I thought I'd better ask before spending money :)

These ate pretty primitive. A better backing would be cloth as it tends to restrict stretching.
