For applying silicone I would recommend that you get a set of fugi tools. It is so much easier than using a finger and avoids the need to mask on tiles (you would need to mask on porous surfaces).
I love your attitude to this. Also, the bathroom looks great and modern, but the 9 days must be stressful. I assume that those 9 days have already passed, so I'm looking forward to know if you managed it :)
Great update, tiny bathrooms really force you to be creative and utilize the space that's available - you've really done that! Looking forward to the updates!
This is Heart Balm for me as an trainee architect. Knowing the pain of things not going as they should makes me just wanting to watch your videos of the appartment again and again! Keep going with this incredibly nice project!
It looks great. I just can’t get over the fact that with all your design skills and your starting blank canvas you opted for the washing machine taking up that prime place right through the bathroom door. There had to have been a better place? Stacked with a dryer in the corner of the kitchen in a cupboard? Anywhere else tbh!
Yes agree- they could have had any amount of space for bathroom- any size shower, so it's hard to understand how it turned out. And I am going to totally get slammed but why do SOOO much crazy extra work with shower? First the fiberglass panels, then cement floor and then tile on top? Then the cute wall shelves with lights 🤣WTF? ! - is It all about having content for vlog? Cuz with fiberglass in place all you need is super simple prefab resin shower enclosure- just pop it in. And cement floor ? -this is all you need totally works.
I like the idea of using the bedroom only for the bed. It's a tiny space but at least the rest of the condo won't be larger for more activities other than sleeping.
To lay down silicone without tape, just use ammonia-free glass cleaner. Lay down a thin bead where you want it to go, spray over it with the glass cleaner, wetting a few inches on either side of the bead, then spray your finger with the glass cleaner, and use it to swipe the bead. The glass cleaner keeps the silicone from sticking to the sides that have been sprayed and wipes off your finger without any mess.
A lot of hard work, but it's looking good. If you want an alternative technique for the caulk (in case you need to do more), you should check out the Modustrial Maker RU-vid channel. Mike has a spiffy way to get uniform caulk lines when he is doing poured concrete projects. (watch for "Caulk Talk" segments)
That's indeed coming along nicely! Is the showerhead adjustable, that is, can it be raised & lowered? Given the high efficiency of the equipment used for heating the water as well as the quality isulation in place it might be a moot point for you all but water cools off surprisingly quickly when sprayed over a distance; that showerhead looks pretty high so some of the heat might dissipate by the time it reaches whoever is showering. It's actually a bit of a concern for me as my house has a woefully undersized & inefficient water heater in addition to an underinsulated bathroom & I found that I could stretch out my showering in the wintertime by adding an extension to the showehead because the water wouldn't cool off so quickly & the hot water supply would last just that much longer. Easy to verify by holding your hand close to the showerhead & then feeling how much the temperature changes the further you move your hand away from the showerhead. Yeah, it's on my list, upgrading the water heater & the insulation, just have to budget for it!!
Muito louco ver a reação dele com coisas tão comuns pra brasileiros: passa-fios é realmente uma coisa impressionante hahahaha o rejunte só não ficou bom porque faltou um pedaço de havaianas pra passar... rejunte com espátula não fica bom!!
"its been a while since ive soldering anything" my guy please go back and redo those connections the solder looked cold and while it may work now they did not look secure at all, I suggest useing the tip cleaner with a smaller tip, some flux will help on those smaller pads too. If you want it to last strongly suggest revisiting them.
Hello, LED Light in a humidity ambinet, it's absolutely not a good idea...believe me.... BUT if you remove them and used by a diffusinf optic fiber it's becom the most advance DIY.... With LED : the light source are in the humidity....with optic fiber the light source are far from this humid ambinet
why you still doin this "hahah.its.silicone" "hahahahah.its.hahaha.perfect". ITs natural or you just know that youtube will position your video higher with all this "hahahahah" ?
I haven`t seen this comment before, so: Put in some empty tubes in the wall, if you can spare some. My uncle moved into an old house and you cant imagine how many times some empty tubes came in handy, e.g. for laying new Internet cables or something else. So if you can spare some empty tubes inside the walls, put them in, who knows what kind of technology will come in the future that requires some cables to be laid. P.S. your whole project is amazing and inspiring.
I've worked in a lab for 20+ years and that folded over tape is an absolute requirement. Who knew that science involved so much tape application and removal!
Great job you two. I so much look forward to your updates. Your positivity and learned approach to life is really pleasant to see. Watching you both make a home together is such fun. I imagine you getting great pleasure from finally living in the home you constructed together. I look forward to seeing more. Bravo!
Nice work Alex! :D a tip with grout is to have it wet enough when you start because it sets up real fast hehehe! also, did you use soapy water on the silicone after you removed the tape? Hope you finish the roof in the bathroom so that the steam doesnt create water damage :) I live in Norway too, ive done a couple of bathrooms and tiled myself so i know it a lot of work! cant wait to see the next project :D
@@orjanyou Yes i understand that it isn't money related, but I can't imagine leaving bathorm cleaning me only with paper :-) I am very unconfortable when i travel out of Italy and I can't find a bidet forcing me to taking a shower or using the sink (!) after going to wc . The only place where I didn't miss the bidet much was in Japan where they solved the problem using a super automate WC🙂
I've been waiting for this. I'm excited to see what you do next. You're doing great so far and it's a great feeling stepping back and admiring your work. There's no better satisfaction. Good luck, stay safe and God bless you buddy.
Using a paddle mixer when mixing grout causes it to set up way faster! Always mix big batches by hand... Using a ball stylus instead of your finger to spread the silicone gives a perfect and uniform consistency.. Thanks for the entertainment! I like watching your progress.
@@mvadu Although he uses paste wax to make the excess pull off... thus the bead is also likely to pull off. Not an issue for Mike, as it's a mould and not a flexible, waterproof join.
DIYferent RU-vid Chanel had his grout set up too fast. He contacted the manufacturer. They said it does that when you use a power drill. The fast drill movement mixes too much air into the mix, which makes it set up too fast. When he remixed by hand, it set up slow, allowing him to finish the job.
If you really like bathroom maintenance and descaling, black tiles is the way to go! 🤓😜🤣 ..but great eye for details, a lot of work to get tiles set perfect 💪👌
6:10 - Oh my... that hurt to watch lol. You really need to redo that with a clean tip and use bit of flux too 😳😬 Bathroom really coming together nicely!! And love that hotdog t-shirt she was wearing lol 😂😀👍
Hello SO MUCH RESPECT FOR YOUR WORK AND ENTHUSIAM BUT comment about video quality: constant waving of hands in front of camera and even worst😖 the jerking of the camera to show something off to side- these are distracting and very amateurish. Alex - Try speaking without using your hands : I'm sure your audience will appreciate it . You have a great personality and speaking style- let that work.
You guys did a fantastic work there! 😃 The bedroom is probably going to be easier... No waterproofing and stuff like that. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
You first place the bottom piece, the back wall, the top, then the side walls, this way all the water falls down on the bottom plate that's under all the walls, so less likely to infiltrate, the back wall is under the side walls so you're less likely to see the seam or uneven cut; and the top plate is over the back wall for pretty points, and under the side walls, for pretty points but also in case the goop does fail adhesion in 2, 5, 10, 20 years, it'll still be help perfectly in place by the side wall tiles.
Did you use PLA for the LED holders ? If so you should know that it will decay. This stuff don't like water at all ! Go for ABS, it will hold on way longer ! (Speaking from experience, my stuff lasted 6 months 😅)
I can't recommend glass doors. Because 1. They steal a lot of place. For current case it looks critical 2. Water drops will be always on them and you will always notice them 3. Washing glass doors is boring. But washing them is required in bathroom 4. Dirt will be on and near hinges periodically. Washing it is hard enough. 5. Accidental slipping and falling on glass door can be injury Glass doors are beautiful but only in magazines and renders :-(
They will be fairly easy to replace compared to other solutions. since he went with Tubes, 3print holders. The only problem is that silicone seal he used. But otherwise, he can easily pull ito ut and replace it. As long he has access on the ceiling somewhere, which he will.
Did you caulk with a MS Polymer as Tek-7? Be aware that white MS polymer can turn yellow by lack of UV light. I messed up a sink in our bathroom by using white MS Polymer, now it has a rather disgusting yellow tint. I should have used white silicone. But at least the sink will not fall of the wall without ripping the wall apart now :)
Don't get me wrong, it looks really good and well done. But doesn't norway have some very strict rules about who is allowed to touch anything to do with electricity? And with regards to anything to do with plumbing there are also strict rules to have authorized companies do the work to not run into problems with insurance companies and selling it eventually.
if I can give you some advice not to make too much effort with silicone. does not need to use tape. just put the silicone in the grout and then spray it with mix of soap and water. then with a rubber spatula remove the excess. then you model it with your finger and it stays perfect. my job is a tiler, im from Italy and i must say you did a perfect job in the shower !! great
I think that the LED stripe is a little bit too bright, you can set the voltage in the adaptor, and toggle it down. bathroom made from wood drywall, still unaceptable for me lol
Genuinely intrigued as to how or why y'all don't have grout that is already dyed. Is that just a thing in Norway? Or was it cheaper to go through route y'all chose?
