I have a tip! Flip the measuring tape when deciding the length of the dress. The number will show right by your chest and it will be able to hang free, giving you a clear idea of where it will hit! :)
I am new to sewing and found this tutorial super easy to follow! So happy with how the dress has turned out. Definitely some room for improvement on my end, but for my first time making an item of clothing I couldn't be happier. Can't wait to wear it out and tell everyone I made it myself! Looking forward to following along with more tutorials from the Essentials Club!
I’ve been waiting for this tutorial foreverrrrr. I have a hard time filling instructions that are written and following videos are so much easier!! Thank you so much! Can’t wait to wear this :)
Alright! I'll try doing this tomorrow morning! Aaah! So excited! Just finished assembling the materials. Hopefully it'll be pretty like yours! 🤎 You're a blessing for beginners like me! 😆 Edit: Done! Almost half day making it 😂 Got some help from my mom. But it's done! And pretty! Made mine from flour sacks hihi Thank you for your tutorial! 🤎🌼
I made the dress!! It’s super pretty and I’m sooo happy about it. Thank you so much for the tutorial, it was very easy to follow even for a beginner! For my fellow beginners: absolutely try this tutorial out! It only took me two evenings to make it, so I think this could easily be made in one day. Also, using a patterned fabric is very forgiving if you don’t sew very straight lines, because the thread is less noticeable.
I made this! It turned out great! The only problem was I sewed it a couple years ago when I was really depressed and not eating properly so now that I’m at a healthier weight, it’s a bit too tight haha but still! I came back to this vid because I wanted to make another one, it’s so fun and comfy :))
I have a little tip for you, when sewing the side seams open up the facing and sew down the facing first , continuing onto the side seam. then flip the facing down. Super clean finish on under arm. Love the style, well done .
I made my fist dress ever! I am so happy that I found your channel ✨ I felt in love with all of your style 🥰 have you ever thought about making a tutorial for a simple wedding dress? 🤩 that would be a dream 💫
I love this channel! I study fashiondesign and in Germany is lockdown , can't go shopping. I need new clothes, this channel help me a lot in this time 💕
your tutorials are so easy to follow, thank you for the amount of description you go into! makes it so much easier to understand what you're doing! as a plus size person i struggle to follow many tutorials as they don' use general measurement guides, so thank you!!
This is amazing! I’m in the middle of this project, and just a little something to keep in mind. I wanted a rather wide neck cut, which looks great, but the straps are slipping off my shoulder a bit. It is still wearable, just something to consider. I’m sure I’m going to make it again, with a bit more narrow spacing of the straps. Thank you so much for the tutorial, this is my first dress and I love it so far! :)
I can’t really believe I never tagged The essentials club on a picture of the short slip dress I made last summer following your tutorial, considering how many times literally everyone and their mother asked me where I got it 😎💛
Just found some fabric to try the tiered dress and I'm nervous and excited as I'm new to sewing, but I LOVE the way that, and this one looks!!! Beautiful 💕
Thank you so much dear ! I will definitely try this project in the coming months . Appreciate this video , will look out for more from you ! If you can, pls can you show how to sew a square neckline with facings . Tks .
How do you get it over your head when you make the sides so tight? I’ve starting making this dress today, and after sewing the sides together pretty loosely, I want to take it in under my armpits, but worried it won’t fit over my shoulders to get it off. Any feedback would be helpful, thanks!
i think i'll make one on the bias as it'll have more give, or just inserting a side zipper and longer silky lining. did you finish yours? how did it go?
I love your tutorials 🥰 Anyone here using the metric system? Do you do a literal convertion from inches to centimeters? Or do you use another method to be able to sew it using the metric system?
Started making this just now 😊 I had to add a couple of darts to the front piece - it was a bit baggy under the arms (I think due to extra boob volume 😅) but apart from that, lovely simple pattern + tutorial. Thanks a bunch 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for saying this ...I made the Interfacing first.. pinned it..tried on and it really baggy under the arms ..so had to put 2 darts in ...now I can cut this out on the main fabric ..so now I know after reading your posting that this is correct for fuller busted people ...
Thank you so much for sharing your work.. I am making it as we speak. I just wanted to confirm about the seam allowance. Are you doing 1/2" seam when sewing?
I love this tutorial so much!! I thrifted a blue gingham and I'm pretty much finished, it's looking so cute :) I just have one issue and I'm having trouble finding help - how can I prevent the slimmer areas from kind of ballooning out when I try to take them in? It all looks great, but then I put the dress on and its poofy where it should be more slim! Thanks so much!
Where do you live? It seems to be always sunny and warm 😅😅😅 but I love all of your tutorial 😍😍😍 can't wait to try sewing this dress, I also made your blouse in the 2020 quarantine and I love it 😍😍😍👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have to wait the summer 🤣 here in Roma is still winter until the 21th 😤😤😤
I'm sure those warmer days will be back before you know it!! I'm Qld Australia which is a very tropical climate year round - just means VERY hot summers though. So glad to hear you enjoyed following along the blouse x
I was just wondering Maddy was seam allowance added to the underarm dip? After adding the angling measurements you just ✂️ cut it. Or did I miss something
so i want to pearn to sew, i might start on hand sewing, do you think its worth to gwt one of those £30 mini sewing machine, or should i wait and save up for a bigger one?
It’s really nice, but may I (politely) suggest you show beginners to iron at each stage to get a much neater, more professional finish? This would really help with getting a clean hem especially.
Omg, yes! I love options 😍 And, i do try and hack things by myself, but honestly, i feel much better when you show us how to make options. Then the cutting is much less stressful 😂 Thank you and you look amazing in that slip 💖
hey! with this dress, could i make the arm holes smaller so they come up a bit closer to my armpit? and also, could you make it full length if you wanted to? Thank you !
I need one! Gonna pick up some linen as soos as I have a chance! Also I adore the aesthetic shots in this video😍😍😍 the panning, the walking, the styling 🙌🙌🙌
I have recently subscribed to your RU-vid channel. Your tutorials are great. May I offer some suggestions? a. I notice that you don't do any pressing with an iron as you sew. I find that pressing every seam after sewing, (to include ironing the seam as flat and then ironing the seam open), really helps the fabric drape better, locks the stitches in place and also makes it easier putting the fabric pieces together as you construct the garment. This technique is why there are so many different pressing shapes used for sewing such as "Hams" and "sleeve boards". It is so much easier to sew a rolled hem if you press it in place first. b. When making any type of strap - leave both ends open and sew one lengthwise seam. After turning the fabric "tube" right side out, center the sewn seam down the center of the tube instead of on the side. Then press it in place making sure that your seam allowances are flattened open to prevent the bulkiness being on one side.. You will now have an invisible seam that can be placed towards the inside of the garment. If using a finer fabric you can also topstitch both sides of the strap for stability. This technique can also be applied to making belts. c. To prevent the facing curl that is happening with the front of your dress design you can press it in place with the inner facing pulled ever so slightly towards the inside and then topstitch along the outside which will stabilize the opening edges. [Your garment construction technique doesn't allow for using a facing under stitching technique which is traditionally used to prevent faced edges from curling outward.]
These tips are fantastic for beginners! I am just learning about understitching. Do you think it is possible to slightly alter the garment construction to make understitching possible? For example, by sewing the top seam of the front panel first, then understitching that seam, then sewing the rest of the side seams for the front outer fabric and the facing, then understitching as much as possible until you get blocked and can't anymore? Thanks! I'm definitely using your suggestions when I try making this dress :D
Your tutorials are amazing. Sewed along this and made me realize how many amazing hints you put through that saved my life :D (Like checking if the straps are the right lenght and not just assuming and then sewing :D) Love your videos!!!
Hello! I'm trying to make a slip dress similar to this, but with a v-neck front/back - i think I can follow similar steps, but i have silk - is it required to cut on the bias to make it flow and not be tight in all the wrong places? Or would cutting the line more a-line in the body work? Your tutorial is one of the most clear I've found - copying some of my existing dresses just isn't working! thanks!
I tried my best to make this according to the instructions, but there are gaps in the front of the armholes. I took in the top of the side seams. Still have gaps.
hi! I'm new at you channel, and I must say I really enjoy see you're cool things you are teaching us to sew! I'm only a beginner, but I'm learning, so thank you for all the beautiful projects!
