Hey, Sam. Removing that door in front of the stairs and adding that new front door was genius. That natural light from the door completely changes the look of your entryway. I love it. Restoring the floors and connecting the color of the living room and kitchen floors is another fantastic idea. Your house is really beginning to take shape. Thanks for sharing the video of this step in your 'Samavacation' of your new house.
Awkward? It’s pronounced ✨amazing✨. This is so so so good! I had no idea so many cool drywall products existed; I always wondered how to fill a huge hole in the wall!
Sam, the door is gorgeous. I love it. Having done my share of painting I asked myself one question - don't you wish painting was as fast as you show it on your video? Between painting and drywall, not sure which I hate more. It's a contest but I think drywall!
Looks awesome, love the front door! Wondering your plan for coats/boots/shoes etc as I also have a small entryway and am looking for ideas. Great job, excited to see the rest
It looks amazing! Good job! LOVE the door. It completely changes the look of your home and the light coming in the front door makes the entry look so much bigger!
Your dad loves cameos in your videos more than Stan Lee in Marvel movies! Loving seeing the progress on your house and can't wait for the finished product!
You did an amazing job modernizing the space. From the door , the accent wall the nook,floors.....you have great skills and your home is coming together beautifully
I love how this looks. The new front door adds some much needed light to the space. The mirror looks lovely too. I just hope that the door handle doesn't hit it hard. You might end up with a broken mirror.
Sam, seeing you and your dad working on projects together really warms my heart and brings back memories of me and my dad working together. Next month will make 3 years since he passed. Cherish and enjoy your time with him while you can.
Hi Sam, yes the wait was truly worth it! I love the front door and the way you changed the knook OMG !! and the floor is beautiful. I’m so happy for you. ❤️. Hi dad!!
I just installed that same front door. It's a total game changer! So much more light in the room. Love the feature wall, I don't have a wall to put it on, I was considering using old blind slats and putting similar design on my doors.
Painting ceilings is intense, but I absolutely love doing it, cause it makes a huge impact and it's just a wow to me. I love it when people are like omg wow I didn't realize they weren't white lol
You can prep the drywall with scuff and metal mesh, then float it with plaster to even the areas out without tearing out the wall. If done right you lose a minimum space and get a maximum amount of wall continuity.
I don’t mind waiting for each project because I know how much work it takes to remodel. Having done it myself before moving to my current place I know how obsessed you can get with each project trying to properly execute your vision. But the process and results are always worth it, and that really comes though in all your videos which makes them that much more enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work Sam, your place is coming along great!
Sam, your dad is so funny. he should feature in more of your vids 😃 Your new front door looks amazing and so do the floors. it's really coming along nicely !
Watch some @drywallshorty she loves to teach drywall. Use a larger mud/taper knife for easier spread. ♥️ A 12” would work great. Along with a trowel, or use a smaller knife to get the product out of the small bucket and spread across the length of the large knife. This will help with the taper of the product and you’ll get smoother results. Far less sanding if any.
On the plus side of keeping the wall, it might give you more furniture placement options and possibly block some of the noise between downstairs and upstairs. I find it so frustrating if I can’t do a job the way I want, so I have to really try and find the good things lol
Wow so beautiful. I obsess over drywall flaws too. In my rental I can close my eyes and still see all of them ahhhh. I'd happily fix them but I lack the talent. I truly believe taping n mudding is a gift
A very lovely job on the entryway. I love what you did with the niche...I have to admit I was nervous when you said 'stain' as the wood is such a nice color in its raw state...but you nailed it...looks beautiful!!!
After watching the entire video, I only heard "sexy chocolate" when referencing the beautifully refinished hardwood floors. J/K you really increased the size of that tiny entry with a new door and paint. I love it
You have no idea how happy I was to find this video thos morning. I've been waiting to see you work in your new home. Those floors are awesome and so are the shelves and door. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
This looks amazing! My husband and I just bought our first house and I keep staying up at night excited about all of the projects I want to do. The diagnosed OCD patient in me wants to recommend that you try some exposure therapy for your stairwell drywall situation. Repeat after me, "my stairwell has patchy and uneven drywall" until it stops giving you heart palpitations. 😉😉
@@diyhuntress I hear you! I "graduated" from IOP in December, so your group therapy comments really hit me. I'm so glad that you were able to talk through your thoughts and process your feelings with us. ❤️❤️
Good video Sam. That nook looks good, but I personally would have preferred to keep the steeple and put a third shelf across the bottom making it an additional space for something like an emergency alcohol lamp. Then again, that space could have been turned into a nifty little secret hideaway for valuables as well.
This entryway makeover is absolutely Stunning!! Removing the stairway door opens that space up so much!! I'm so in love with that new door and those floors are Gorgeous!! Beautiful job Sam!!
I just started watching your channel because my partner and I are slowly renovating our townhouse in Baltimore and we've been looking at so many videos to address some of the things we can do ourselves, and I'm SO PUMPED because watching you work makes me feel like we can do a lot of the work (with the right tools of course). Thank you so much for sharing these projects, it really makes a world of difference to us DIY-ers. :)
I am so happy that you have your own home. Everything looks amazing I love the original floors❣️You’re going making it your own and put your finishing touches on everything. Thank you for another great video God bless❌⭕️❌⭕️
You need a longer stick for painting ceilings. You want to keep your hands below your shoulders to reduce shoulder strain. That’s probably why you hate painting them, it’s a lot more exhausting when you work with your arms over your head. It sounds “weird,” but a stick that’s 1-2’ longer would be so much easier. Your bottom hand will be around your hips, the top one will be between chest and shoulder height, which will take most of the strain off your shoulders. Ditto goes for drywall/taping/installing ceiling lights, etc. Set up your ladder or scaffold to that if you put a fist on top of your head, it’s touching both your head and the ceiling. You’ll have just enough room to work, but it’ll take as much strain as possible off your shoulders.
Sam, crazy how a few small changes drop a huge impact. I think you did awesome within the constraints you had. Hoping all is well Homie, Dirt Jersey out!!
Hi Sam, I love the new front door. It changed the entry way totally. All kinds of natural light. Absolutely beautiful. I'm really glad you remodeled the nook and brought it up to date. Although you should have stained and finished the wood before installing it ... LOL ... it turned out fantastic. You are allowed to make a minor boo boo once in a while. It's easy to do when you are thinking about a dozen different thing at once. I absolutely love the original hardwood floor. It's totally gorgeous. I just can't figure out why anyone would want to cover up such beautiful floors with laminate. You definitely hit a home run by redoing the original flooring. That'll be the first thing people will notice when they walk through the door. Automatic conversation piece. Love watching your channel and your DIY projects. Keep up the great work. Look forward to the next one.
Omg I love it all, from the floors to the door and how much better that stairway is now. Great work as always and I can’t wait to see the whole house reveal 😍
Just fantastic, love it! Your doing such an amazing job of your renovation, I don't know how you manage do it all along with a full time job, qudos friend! Looking forward to your next video and of course your dad cameos! Awesome
I had a similarly awkward stair-meets-front-door situation where I couldn't remove my wall either. The solution I came up with was to just take out the portion of wall at the bottom three steps. I put in a tiny bit of banister with newel post and spindles, and needing to keep the stair door, it got nudged up almost to the ceiling on stair #3. To help with the open feeling, I changed it to a French door, but with frosted glass for privacy. Just a small change made it feel so much more open, and at Christmas time I have a spot for garland and lights :) Love your front door! I don't know if it would be possible in your space, but another idea I've seen used to make more space in a tight entry, is to change the swing of the door so it opens out. Next time you have a large area to spread filler on, a wider tool might help reduce your sanding when it dries :) I am a FIRM believer in always priming before painting. Combined with using a good quality paint, it saves on both materials and labour, and does a much better job. The only other option I sometimes go for is a high quality primer-paint combination. Stairwell drywall... just breathe. Paint it a forgiving colour, in a low sheen, or do a textured finish or use wallpaper... it will be beautiful and no one else will notice any imperfections as they pass by ;) The accent wall is fab!
