Hey yall that margin is super normal for retail products. They are also paying for employees salaries and storefront rent & utilities. Plus any growing company needs capital for innovating new products and equipment.
I've never heard of bella and bear... which speaks to LUSH's marketing reach (and budget). I think there is room for both budget beauty products and luxury versions to exist at the same time. I get more upset over the trademarking of products that are a sketchy interpretation of proprietary IP, and artists who undersell their products to an unsustainable level to be competitive.
🚫WORST experience I had🚫 I know how important eye wear is! I was making M&P soap, had JUST taken out of microwave went to stir it when the stick stuck to a chunk on bottom that didn't fully melt, it sprung up DIRECTLY IN MY right EYE FULLY OPENED! it was at least 133° maybe even 140° I FROZE for idk 5 ,10 seconds then the pain hit,I RAN TO THE SINK STUCK MY EYE DIRECTLY UNDER COLD WATER for like 20 minutes, then PEELED MY contact lens out put ice pack on it but the pain didn't go away for almost 3 hours,I couldn't open it till the next morning! I'm lucky im not blind & had I done CPS I probably would be! PLEASE WEAR EYEWEAR & GLOVES
@@GlytcheD she was adding to that statement by sharing a previous experience she had making melt and pour. Her experience didn't happen from making the jelly bars (just to clarify).
@@eadaoinmccorry2745 the commenter wasn't blaming anyone :) only supporting the statement that protective eyewear is important by sharing an anecdote- which occurred in the past, not while following a tutorial from this channel
basically not made from plastics as when then wash off of you and to the ocean they pollute the waters, similar to those plastic beads many other bath and body companies use for exfoliating products
could you do a jelly soap tutorial from scratch, like without the premade base? would love to see how your's comes out. tried to make my own but they melted in my hand as soon as I took them out of the fridge from cooling off. wondering if I made them wrong
That's a common issue with a Jello- based formula, it has to be refrigerated. I'd try experimenting with AgarAgar powder rather than jello. AgarAgar doesn't mold as easily, is more shelf stable, doesn't need to be refrigerated and is vegan. The only problem is it's hard to find. Asian import grocery stores and Co-op stores usually carry it. I just use a coupon when I buy the premade base, it's less of a hassle for me.
Jasmine G. You should! Or you could work your way through school, obtain around $40k-$80k in debt, graduate and look around at the entry level jobs and realize they all suck and aren't what you want to do....and then, one day, several years later: BOOM! Suddenly realize this same realization and quit your job to focus on soaping. So...yes! Do it now while you're still young! It's worth the risk and you won't regret it. :) If you can do it, go for it!
Alicia 0203 Do you run a fucking MLM? That advice is horrible! Most places require more experience than college and to think you can survive on soap making especially at the start of a business? You do that shit gradually you dumbass Karen.
I love the idea od " can we make it cheaper series" and please do a label making video. Making labels is one thing I struggle with so if you could make a video on how to make them that would be awesome!!
Just FYI, I hardly ever like a video, or watch ads... but because I can see how genuine you are, and selfless to share all this info and not just keep it for your personal benefit... i do! Thank you for sharing stuff like this!
I love how cleverly that this video was set up; super effective at relaying exactly what I’m wanting to know & hooked me from the intro. Great video, 👍🏻
This is the first video I've seen of yours and I'm totally impressed. :) Love how you're actually telling people to use cosmetic grade colorants and scents. You have no idea how hard I shake my head watching people put food dye in their soap diys.
Food dyes are similar in composition to cosmetic dyes, the difference is that cosmetic dyes are not always safe for consumption and food dyes are obviously.
the difference is also that soap dyes are made to use on skin, food dyes are not. If you add enough food colouring in your soap or bathbomb you might stain your skin and maybe also the bathtub/shower. It's not that it isn't safe to use food colouring in skin care products, but you might end up with blue skin. It is a different story with scents and especially glitters. Ideally, biobegradable, cosmetic grade glitters would be best since regular glitters are usually made from plastic and are terrible for the environment and also love to hang around for ever.
Dear Katie, this was the first ever video of yours that I've watched and I've been hooked since. I love seeing your personal growth and video-creator development, you're a true inspiration. In other news, I truly love your hairstyle in this video
I've been watching your videos for a few days now and I'm starting to feel a little bit less overwhelmed. Not your fault, I'm just so excited watching all the different products that you make. And here's another new one; the soap jelly. Looks like a lot of fun to use. Thanks so much for sharing all your ideas.
O. M. G. you have really saved the DIY small business community! I have been stressing to find vendors for colors and scents. Thank you thank you thank you for this video and links!!
my problem with this is that the *cough* original company *cough* Don't sell them at the price it costs them to make them, as a business they need to make a profit, plus their ethics don't exactly make the ingredients for each individual scent in their range cheap to make, either. but it is good to know that you can make your own
I was just thinking this. The "original company" probably ups their prices at least 3x what it REALLY costs to make them. However, because they make so many they can also buy their materials in bulk, lowering production costs.
I loved this video however, the reason why lush products are more expensive is because their ingredients are of the highest quality and ethically sourced. I know the purpose of this video is to show you can make it cheaper, but there are reasons why lush is pricey. I do support how you showed the process of making one if you're on a budget!
nailgenius2012 many of us bath and body products creators make very similar products to Lush that are same or in some cases better and do not need to charge as much. I personally use all natural products as well and my prices are much less with a good profit margin.
Nope most soapers make the same high quality as lush if not more. To say that they don't is a flat out insult. Do you want to know the real difference? Simply the size of the company.
I watch your new videos too, but I really enjoyed how you presented in this older one. Much more laid back and less silly... This you is much more pleasant to listen to...
Okay but it killed me the moment she's like only use cosmetic friendly stuff and the bottles like none cosmetic. I'm like oh you know I hope this doesn't cause you any harm or anything.
Great job as usual. Yes I would love to see a labeling video from you as I am fed up with my labels and am trying to figure out something new for my products.
Thank you so much! I used to make a lot of resin products and have lots of silicone molds. I’ve been looking for something else to do I’ve just kinda lost my love for it and think this would be a great transition! When I’m not super broke I’m sure I’ll have more questions but thanks so much!! Heard that company is the best
Okay aside from the amazing diy can I just say how fricking adorable you are. I think I just found a new character inspo. I love writing science characters and you just fit the bill perfectly.
Thank you soooo much for this DYI. I have been making soap for about two years now. My husband who honestly has showed no interest in my product in the past came to me about the jelly soap. I now can make something that he may actually use so thank you .
I tried making these using gelatin and water... worked but was not sturdy. I didn't know they had premade jelly stuff. I think I might give this a try. Thanks for the breakdown. I love your videos. You have a fun personality.
I didn't even know that soap jellies were a THING until about... fourteen minutes ago, and now I'm seriously considering making some. That looks pretty cool. Also, a label-making video would be neat too! I realize that this video is nearly four years old, so I can only hope that enough people said that sounded neat that you actually did make it!
I’ve made a cheaper version of this by mixing gelatin and body wash/shampoo and microwaving it then pouring that into silicone cupcake liner. It works pretty well too.
This is such a great idea for a series!! Also, I love the project and I’ll try it :) thank you for the explicit directions! Also, you look so so beautiful with your hair up like that 🙏🏻
Ooh, where'd you get your goggles? You DO look cool in those, and I, too, want to look cool! (and I hate my current goggles with the heat of 1000 suns)
Hahaha, yeah if you only want just one soap jelly, it's cheaper to just buy it. BUT if you're trying to get a lot for a shower, party, as gifts, etc. It's cheaper to make them. :)
I love your channel and all the cool soap-making you do. I thought this video was really interesting, you managed to in a positive way recommend how to save money on doing DIY comparing to the original creator without in any way bashing their brand or their products. Really respectful. You guys are awesome. 💖
The ingredients also affect how sudsy it will get as well. Due to the fact that LUSH only uses natural and safe synthetics it's not going to bubble like normal soap because they do not contain the same ingredient that is put into normal soaps
hey, not sure if this is helpful at all but the nz company 'pure nature' sells jelly soap base for about 21 dollars. I was thinking about getting some to test out :)
:) this was my first royalty soaps video and I just got my first purchase from royalty soaps :) it's so nice watching it again, looking back at what got me hooked
TKB Trading makes things only for creating your own cosmetics and soaps. I’m thinking it says non-cosmetic because it’s soap dye & shouldn’t be used to make eye makeup
Microwaves are perfectly safe as microwaves are tiny ( micro) sound waves. Heat is produced by them because they excite water molecules. Heat is a type of radiation, ionizing radiation is the dangerous kind and isn’t produced by anything that isn’t radioactive. Microwaves are perfectly 100% safe.
yeah the Lush version is definitely more expensive than the DIY but the costs not considered in theirs was the transportation and overhead for the factory and store, as well as wages to the workers that make and sell it.
