This project will connect two things that I like, making and running! I would like to see how fast I can run 100m and that's why I build this project, it's simple to build, you don't need any fancy tools and we will use popular components like Arduino, buzzer, buttons, and one that's not so popular: E-paper display.

Thank you for such a honest video. I build some projects with ultra sonic sensors. They tend to have ghost detections. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one struggle with this.

Does the setup compensate for the speed of sound? At 100m the beep to have you start will be delayed about a 1/3 second.

Hi Nikodem, weather looks good to be out for s run, a sponsor is good, will help you build more great projects. Enclosure look nice, we were wishing it had a groove to slip into the other base part not for sealing it from the elements just as a practice to hone ones skills in alignment. Ok you are going to make a better enclosure later. Lance & Patrick.

How would you add a release button timer to start the time when your finger leaves the button from the starting line?

Hi, I was wondering if you would able to explain do this project without the paper display and did you use the analog pins for the ultrasonic sensor? I would really appreciate the help.

Interesting application of technology. It will be interesting to see how well this works on a regular basis. I can think of some potential enhancements, but if this works well enough then that would be overkill. I wish you well on your sprints. I’ve been getting back into indoor rowing again. It is good to have a fitness goal. I like collecting performance data. I use an app to log my performance and heart rate. You might find it interesting to develop expanded data capture tools for your running. Very impressive image stability on the trailing running shot. I sent you a PayPal payment last month. Just want to make sure it actually got to you. Let me know if you didn’t get it and I’ll investigate further.

Thanks! Yes, it's nice to have data of sports activities. This was shot with GoPro hero 7 with hyper smooth turned on on a gimbal so it's buttery smooth :) Yes, I think I got it, thanks a lot!

Great content! I am trying to make a similar project but inside a medical physics lab. They have a nice hallway and i try to think of a smart idea to place either photocells or rfid or something to make a timing system for pacing/running. My only two problems are cost and wiring (i can't open holes in walls for the photocells or the wires etc). The hallway is like 30m long and the system should be keeping laps every 5m. Any ideas?

Hi, I tested this kind of measurement but it's very difficult to get a clear result, the ultrasonic sensor doesn't catch everytime when I go ahead, is it the same for you ? And sometime the sensor get a result event I don't have obstacle

nice proof of concept, but you lose time when the buzzer goes off - its not much, but at 100 meters, there is already a noticable delay between the thing going off and you hearing it. you really should need two parts of the timing mechanism. but thats really hard and there might be a reason why true timing gear is that expensive. but just for the fun of it, its a cool thing.
@MisterMakerNL
@MisterMakerNL 5 лет назад
Since it is a straight line you could use a laser on a photo sensor and trip it off by waving your had true it. Could use the buzzer to set it up you only need a steady tripod, or something. Or use just Bluetooth.
@jowieweb
@jowieweb 5 лет назад
you could just substract the time it takes for the beeping sound to travel to the start of the track in software. Should be nearly constant shouldnt it?
@SharkyMoto
@SharkyMoto 5 лет назад
@@jowieweb thats actually brilliant
@nikodembartnik
@nikodembartnik 5 лет назад
I wanted to implement a simple function to subtract distance that you want to run divided by the speed of sound, that way I could get rid of this delay. But because it's a really small value and the most important thing for me is the difference between those times so the single time itself is not really that important :) But that's true, thanks for pointing that out!

Sir, it is a great project; fortunately, I can design it on the professional platforms, for example, Proteus 8 Professional. The printed circuit boards, I can design on P-CAD professional and using the professional in-system programmer (software is PonyProg2000 or SinaProg2). Please, just do not spend a lot of time on Arduino...
