Hey all,
I've been messing around with a couple things with trying to make a vehicle for camping. I tried to make a sleeping platform, and left room for storage underneath.
This is an older vehicle and the total cost for the materials was quite low for me since I used things I already had.
Hope you find it useful, and if you want to subscribe, I will be updating it and making it better along the way. I am also hoping to do a build for my friend's Honda CRV, but that one will be higher quality.
Have a great week,
Oliver

I just bought a 2005 Hyundai Tuscon this morning actually and am already beggining to work on a few projects like this before I get it plated and insured next month. Happy I stumbled upon your video I was not sure if you could sleep in the back comfortably but it looks roomy!

Do you have the measurements for initial platform where the seats were? I have the same sante fe, same year. I usually just lay the seats down but want to try removing the seats and doing this!

Aircraft mock-ups look horrible, too. I think this looks good to me. Thank you for making this video.

Thanks for the cool video. Maybe consider installing an under a desk keyboard slideout tray for the stove?

If you make the front section behind the drivers seat one full height section, you will have a "lot" of srorage underneath and it will be much safer than driving with one section on top of thd other. Cheers and enjoy

Considering buying a 2007 Sante Fe. Using it for local overnighters, hunting, fishing, etc. Towing a light utility trailer for longer stays.

Nice! That's what I used it for too, and the 2007 model has a lot of improvements for sure.

This is pretty nifty, love the platform you made after you removed the back seats. Some measurements would have been cool so my lazy ass doesn't have to measure it all myself haha. Thanks for the video!

I saw another car bed setup that was designed with no permanent screws... she drilled two holes down the board and directly into a 2x4, then she used 4" or longer bolts that has little amount of threading that she drop the bolts between board and stands to stabilize frame... and when not using board she just laid it flat on top of other board.

I have a 2019 santa fe and am looking at ways to sleep in it during a bug out survival scenario without removing seats etc. Luckily my seats fold down flat. Tfs!

Being forced into a nomad situation with my two kids and I have the same car-- an 05 Santa Fe. I was wondering if you had the measurements of the platforms. i'm going to be removing the plastic framing for the backseats as the other viewer mentioned so I don't have to remove the back seats and would love the measurements for the platforms as a shortcut since i'm super green to the DIY-SUV life thing. Many thanks in advance.

Hi are you able to share the measurements to the storage area?
@raynecottrell2185
@raynecottrell2185 2 года назад
Hi Oliver! Do you happen to have a list of materials used & specific measurements/instructions? I love the simplicity of your build! I also like the stackability for more storage/driving during the day. I have a 2007 hyundai santa fe, but I feel like I could easily adapt yours to mine if there are any differences!

Been trying to come up with some ideas for my 2001 Santa Fe 4x4 but can't decide whether I want a bed platform or not as I would like to be able to have some real headroom. Obviously by not having a platform you sacrifice storage though. Ideally I'd like some sort of sofa I could sit on normally when riding out bad weather and chilling etc rather than having to lie down on the bed all the time or sit in the front seats. It's twice as difficult as it needs to fit two people not just one haha. A van would make life much easier but hey ho can't afford to run two vehicles right now
@oliverking75
@oliverking75 3 года назад
I’m actually working on the same problem haha! I think I have an idea to make a sitting area so I’ll post a video when I get it done. I just put in a drawer system with a Coleman stove, and a mini fridge, so it’s next on the list. A pull out tarp would be cool too.

@@oliverking75 Google "foam ying Yang sofa" into Google images and first thing they comes up should be some half cut foam mattress that you can stack into a corner sofa. I'm thinking something like this could work. Maybe slightly less thick foam

Hi, where did you get the indoor out door carpet, are you suppose to glue the carpet to the plywood? Thanks
@oliverking75
@oliverking75 2 года назад
I got mine for 20$ per roll from Home Depot - I needed two rolls I think, and I did not glue it because I wanted to be able to take it all apart easily - you could definitely glue it though! I would maybe recommend hot glue.
