Finally, an informative content that I found what I was looking for, it was very nice. I just couldn't understand why the handles would not crack and break when dry, should we apply glue or glue on it to prevent it from falling?

Yes, the handles will crack or fall off the piece when they dry because the clay actually shrinks 10% which causes this. I love using starBOND super glue because it works very fast, drys within seconds and it holds very strong and you can even pick the vase up by the handle using this glue! I can link the glue if you are interested in it!

These came together beautifully, love them and your technique. Make yourself some “slip”. It makes working with clay so much easier. It’s like a glue for clay, it fixes all any cracks. I’m sure there is a diy for it on RU-vid. Thanks for sharing David. 💕😊

Yes slip is water and clay mixed together ❤️ I did use it several times to fill in any cracks but also I use wood glue to hold things together if it's not wanting to stay. Mainly because adding clay to an already cured item the new clay won't stick bc it shrinks as it's drying. Thanks for watching Michele!

I Love your clay pots! They really are gorgeous! Adding the handles creates an antique vibe & gives them more character. The colors you chose blend well with any/all colors on the wheel! They could be incorporated into any design space!

Thank you very much! I love that new technique I found on Instagram Her work is gorgeous 😍 I had to remake these when I saw those bud vases at Target I was like oh my gosh yessss!!! That dirt really makes a difference I think it adds so much and I love that I added in cinnamon and cumin to add warmth to the dirt

Love love the transformation! Never thought to use dirt before. Great technique. Does the dirt rub off whenever you touch them? Or do they stay on pretty good? I want to try this out, but don’t want dirt falling everywhere whenever I move it around lol.

Hahahaha the dirt can brush off if you are being aggressive with it, however never wipe it down as it will take away the rawness edge in the piece. The dirt adds organic material to this making it seem even more that it is from a different country and it's very old. If doing this I would find a spot in your home where you wanna keep the piece for a while not really a vase you wanna move around alot if the dirt is a big issue you can make sure to add in wood glue where you want the dirt to stick such as the bottom and top and handles add the glue first and then run the dirt into the glue it will surely stick to the vase lol

So a tip for everyone- when making your handles, measure out your clay on either a food scale or measuring cup/ spoon so your handles are same size.

Using different types of clay as well would help as air dry clay is not the strongest

Those handles are pretty hard to shape out but I do think they add character to the vase. I am so happy with them. Glad you will try the painting technique. And will you try the dirt as well?

@@DavidOwenCreates I do love the handles, but I would get them all uneven. You should see when I glue beads on the bottom of a tray. It comes out leaning LOL. I will try adding the dirt to them too Thank you
