In this video I remove the summer wheels, do the brake service, and put on the winter wheels on my 2018 Tesla model X.
We can get really cold an snowy winters here in Norway. So good "shoes" and brakes are important 😊
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a certified car mechanic!
But I have worked on, and repaired all kinds of cars for over 34 years. So I often know what I'm doing 😊
I find this relatively easy to do, but you do it on your own risk. Or get a shop to do it for you 😊
--------------
UPDATE: I had a request from a viewer if i could link to the Putoline Ceramic grease I use. The webpage is in Norwegian, but the product has English words.
Here is the productlink:

I hope you like the video!
Best regards, Roger do stuff.

Where can I purchase the front brake pin removal tool you used in this video in Norway? At BIltema or can I find it at Thansen, like the ceramic grease? Thank you! (Takk!)

You can buy this (4 mm lang drivdor, som det heter på norsk) at several places. I've had mine for ages, but I see Bilxtra sell them: bilxtra.no/dor-4mm-175mml-f-brems-splint And also Jernia sell them: www.jernia.no/jernvare-og-verktøy/håndverktøy/slagverktøy/dor/ironside-dorpinne-150x10x4mm/p/32234098 Or you can buy a set at Biltema: www.biltema.no/verktoy/handverktoy/drivdor/drivdor-2-8-mm-2000024016 Hope this helps you 😊

Did you take the cap off the brake reservoir first to get the pistons back inti position?
@rogerdostuff
@rogerdostuff Год назад
It's always a good practice to loosen the cap yes. But they'll move back anyway.
@bonniescotland2293
@bonniescotland2293 Год назад
Did you need to take the service plug out the car first to work on the brakes
@rogerdostuff
@rogerdostuff Год назад
I'm not quite sure what you're thinking about, but if it's the cap on the brake fluid canister. Then yes it might be smart to loosen it.

@@rogerdostuff sorry roger! it is just that i am new to electric cars and trying to learn more about them. I watched this video about them and it says electric cars can kill you if you are not careful. I thought that maybe the pistons were connected to the electrics on the newer models. See if i never took the parking brake off, could i get zapped by your car?
@rogerdostuff

No worries Bonnie 😊 There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. And if anything I replied to you helps you out, I am very happy to help you. And no, brakes on electric cars are not connected to electricity. Many of them have an electrical operated parking brake yes, but this is driven by the 12V battery. The only main difference between fossil and electric vehicles are the motors that drives the car. You can almost say that an electric car is easier to work on, they have less moving parts 😊

How did you get the brake pads out without loosening the bleed nipple?
@rogerdostuff
@rogerdostuff Год назад
I use a small prying tool, like you can see at around 4:30 minutes into the video. Or I use a pliers to gently push the piston into the caliper. Just enough to loosen the pads, and make room for the new slightly bigger pads. If you do it slow like this, you will slowly push the brake fluid back into the brake fluid container. Just be aware that it might flow over if you do all 4 at once. Slow motion is the key here. I have done this for over 30 years, and haven't had any issues changing brakes like this. But I am not an authorized mechanic, so like I put in the disclaimer; Please do this on your own risk 😊

@@rogerdostuff would it be dangerous to loosen the brake nipple, with it being an electric car?
@rogerdostuff
@rogerdostuff Год назад
No, it doesn't matter if it's a electrical or fossil fuel car. The brakes are the same system. Just make sure that the parking brake is off as always. This is to ensure that there's no pressure anywhere in the brake system.
