Faster way : shorten the ground pin of the LD, place the LD on the FT back side (opposite to the jumper ) facing the three central pins (the ones with the jumper on the other side), so that pin 2 of the LD touches middle pin, pin 3 of the LD touches 5V pin, and shortened pin 1 of the LD (gnd) does not touch the 3.3 V pin. solder pin 2 and pin 3 of the LD to the FT pins they are touching, then add a 1cm wire from LD pin 1 to the gnd pin of the FT. Don't forget to remove the jumper from the other side, and you have a 1.8V version of the FT232.

Hi, I will be making one of these following your instructions, this is the first time I have done anything with electronics so a lot to learn! I already bought the breakout board, now I am looking for the voltage regulator. The one in your video has 2 long pins and short one in the middle but the one in your link has 3 long pins. Is it the right one?
