Nice, simple to follow. I really like your reusing a simple adapter that not many people would think of. Lots of folks are pulling apart pc power supplies and you’ve shown you really don’t need to. Great video, thx.
Love this DIY project! Turn your old car radio into a functional speaker system for your home or garage. Perfect for tailgaters and outdoor events. Thanks for sharing!
I have been setting up a system like this for my garage using a old set of house speakers a early 80’s Chevy suburban radio with tape deck and a bench top power supply
Hey bro the video was rlly helpful thanks alot but i have a question i have car radio i think its a 50 watts radio but i want to get full power out of it. How much amps of a 12volts adapter should i get. Should i get a 6 or 7 amps adapter (i have 7 speakers connected to it) and im currently using a 12volts 2.5 amps
Great video. Only thing I would mention is you should use a multimeter and measure the maximum current draw and make sure your 12v adapter can handle it.
The question I needed answer was what kind of amplifier or control panel I needed to run speakers. I wired a 40 V lawn mower battery to some lights on my bicycle am interested in adding speakers. i might have to build my own bt radio to make it as compact as possible
I’ve been thinking about doing this with Skar’s 4inch TX4 120W speakers and a similar head unit and was wondering how loud the speakers were actually playing. I doubt you know the exact decibel reading but if you could give me an estimation of what to expect before I buy them that’d be great
Also take note about the Amps of the 12v power supply, if that headunit is producing about 200w on 4 channel then probably you should have a 20A 12v power supply.
I have used 5a power supplies with no problem. No overload doesn't even pull a full 5 amps. Cars stereos list all of these outrageous power numbers but they're bullshit. Realistically you get around 15w per channel if that. Sony makes a few stereos with beefcake amps in them but they're the exception not the rule.
@@ElectronicsForFun maybe that's why, but my pioneer ones doesn't like the 12v 5a power brick (cutting the power off), but works wonderfully on my 14.4v 30a power supply. (Too overkill lol). I also have a local cheap head unit (bought it for about 8 usd brand new), I can crank it up 100% with the 5a power supply. So maybe it's likely producing less than 50w on 4 channels.
Appreciate that Boss. Was just wondering if there was a way for power without actually having to use a car battery. I have plenty of those plugs. Want to test the quality of sound before I install radio in the car. Have been through 2 so far for my niece and don't like the sound. Want a radio that has some bass without needing an amp and sub. 3rd radio is on the way so I wanted to test it in the house before installing. Thanks for the tips. I don't trash too much stuff either. Comes in handy when the wheels in your head start rollin! Thanks again.
@@daniellemathis8624 Sounds good. I usually buy Pioneer for the cars and Sony for the house. Been trying touchscreens so she can easily access the sd card of music I gave her. I'll Google yours. This project has become a job! Thanks
It won't, and please dont do it, there's a specific head unit that supports 24v, the maximum voltage on a 12v head unit are 14v. Edit: It may work but it won't be reliable.
Hi! Thanks for a great video it was really easy to follow and repeat which made it possible for me to set up my own car stereo at home. I’m very glad from the results but I have one question regarding the safety of the set up. I want to know if it is safe to connect at home? Can this set up cause any sort of hazard? (Like a fire for example) or will the fuse (located at the back of the radio) blow in case anything happens? Thanks again for the video
RU-vid hasn't got you yet. Lol Bro I was thinking about doing this probably around the same time doing the same thing but I let it sit there for a few years randomly thinking about it.
Not sure why its "rocket science" hooking up a car stereo when its not in your car, its way easier when your car isn't in the way. Just note that it works off 12 volt, like your computer you might be watching this on! Thank you for the video, good work and thank you for your time mister.
GREAT video… only issue is it comes on but as soon as I hook up the speaker it shuts off! Hooked it to a power wheels battery and no issue.. I want it plugged in the outlet tho. Using a Pioneer BT-160 double din. Do I need more power? I’ve tried adapters with more power and it doesn’t even come on!
I bought a little cheap car radio like that on Amazon for 40$ then I think I have some speakers layin around maybe all together like 80 or 60 idk I’m weird I like car radios even tho I have plenty house radios
Yeah I bought a CD player like that earlier today for tomorrow for my for my house and they don't got no box either it's made just like yours and I'm trying to see if you can make one out of wood the picture radio and you know where it go be all opened up like that you know
I got my deck to turn on. But no matter what wires I hook up to what wire is nothing happens Bluetooth connected and volume is up when I put together the black white cord and the solid white cord and then the blue cord touch it I hear a little bit of static with but thats it
I was damn worried about the short circuit, live wire connections to the loud speaker. Seems like you were not careful about it. Thanks for posting, anyways!
Some time when you those lil 6 1/2 door speakers them will come with those like wires as extensions, but if not any speakers wire will do just add some of the connectors and slide em on to the speakers
so It don't matter If you're using a 19.5 volt charger connected to a 12volt car stereo? just thought you'd have to use the same power supply that's compatible with a 12volt car stereo?
@LDM FITNESS i found one around Christmas time and just got around to messing with it. I used a Milwaukee m12 battery and then tired a computer power supply and it didn't get loud at all. I came with a set of four speakers and it not loud. I read a comment that said it only puts out about 15 watts. What's you opinion?
I followed your tutorial to a t and my head unit turns on but doesn't put out sound. I have checked all wires multiple times and still confused. I have the same exact head unit if that helps
@@detroitrugcompany5972 found out that I was stupid and didn't pay attention to the fact that my power supply was only 5v. Ended up going with a lawnmower battery anyway
