Very cool! Gonna have to stash this tip in my toolbox for next time. I somehow always have a spare belt that works well enough on hand. Hell even rubber bands work on a pinch but they degrade very quickly. Thanks for the vid. Cheers, Mario

Very good idea. I thought you will cut the tube straight and stick the joint with super glue

I was shocked that this video is only posted seven months ago… It would have to be an emergency to pull out your old useless piece of junk VCR just to digitize a video so that you could play it on your computer. Oh I thought your belt looked a bit tight. Plus you can just probably buy some elastics from the store and achieve the same thing. I've seen all bags of all different sizes and as long as it's just temporary you should be okay. By the way I was a technician on these pieces of crap for so many years it was fun I enjoyed the work and I made good money. It seemed they always needed servicing. Anyway I'm not trying to be negative the video was fun to watch it just brought back memories for me. But I am glad to not use them again ever

Thank you for your sincere point of view. You thought it might be a little tight, but everything has been adjusted for the electric motor to work properly. Too bad you didn't do any test you spoke of! However, it's never too late to put it into practice.

I just had the task of converting a 1990s recording of a once well known concert pianist playing a piano concerto. It is in S-VHS NTSC-JP-525-30 format, so a bit of a challenge using UK equipment. (I'm using a separate Pioneer machine to do the signal conversion). The belt is slipping in my S-VHS machine, though fortunately only during rewind. Like you, I was hoping never to see these machines again. However, this was an emergency because there's a big commemoration event coming up, and this is the only remaining material we can find!
