I’m a 70 year old lady. I found this your parenting beautiful, you reminded me of my dad who use to take me to work as a builder and explained want he wanted me to do. I lost him in my late teens, but I grew into a very strong independent person where, I could do most handy work around the house for myself. Your daughter will know how to do those odd jobs by herself, or get frustrated watching a guy doing a very bad job and she will end up taking over the project herself. Enjoy the special moments with her because she will learn so much from you. God bless your family. 😅

Thank you Jonh! We actually simply set it on top of the 5 gallon bucket a day it stays up on its own. We didn't have to use the pvc pipe for any support. The metal lathe/mesh is stiff enough to hold the weight of the rocks

I thought I saw something on the sides. Of the container, you set the mesh on. Thank you for replying back. I'm going to Make one With a gallon bucket. I couldn't find the container to put a 5 gallon bucket in it.That was flat at the bottom
@TheChungKids

@johnbowman2710 a smaller bucket will still work! Also, if you find a large planter that fits a 5 gal bucket, but isn't flat, you could add some sand at the bottom to level it out. The birds will love it!

It is precious to me that you let your daughter learn how to use the tools and have the confidence to do these things. Teaching her that she can create, and she is competent to fix things as she needs to when she gets older. It’s a very valuable lesson to teach little girls. I am 67 years old and my dad loved me with all his heart, but he never let me touch even a screwdriver. I just wasn’t something girls could do when I was young.
@TheChungKids

@@TheChungKids you are very welcome. The funny thing is I am the fixer in my house. My husband is not interested in any kind of tool or household repair. So I am the one that hangs the ceiling fans or fixes the broken toilets or when, I had a home rather than a condo, I would get on that roof and patch any leaks. I’ve repaired my fence and mowed my lawn. And fixed my lawn mowers. Etc. etc. so sorry Dad I had to learn on my own, but yes, little girls can be very competent. And whether you teach your boys or your girls, it’s a wonderful thing to share with your children.

One thing that made me nervous though is her hair near the drill. I have long hair and have to remember to put it up when painting or using a drill. Pro tip - check the fountain before the rocks!!great project. Those big pots from Costco made it into a fountain in my yard too!! I’ve made theee fountains using a similar method. Looks great!! Also you can run a drip hose from your system into the bucket to help top off the water. It will evaporate faster but it helps.

Same as a lot of other comments - as a father it is heart warming to see you include your lovely daughter in the process ! And she will learn so much from being included and remember it for the rest of her life and also learn so much from the experience - most of all to not be afraid of trying things and that she CAN do it too - something that will definitely benefit her throughout her life. Plus she is outside in nature , sunlight and fresh air - not inside staring at a screen looking at toxic content that causes so many mental health issues for kids these days and teaches them all the wrong things about life ! Full marks Dad ! I wish you and your family well from South Australia ! This truly made my day - a welcome relief from politics, war, stupidity that we are buried under every day !

Think outside the box. You should make it easier to service your pump. By placing the pump in the bottom. First you should place the access holes for the pump electric wire higher. So your water won't accidentally drain. Second you should possibly somehow make yourself a center access panel in the wire mesh...in order to clean or change the pump filter pads. You could also stabilize the spray tube using a very narrow piece of PVC tubing or large straw.
@TheChungKids
@TheChungKids Год назад
Thanks for the tip! We actually drilled the hole high on the 5 gallon bucket for the wire, but low on the outer pot to keep the wire hidden. Remember, with this design, there is no overflow so having the hole low on the outer pot poses no issue. You're right on accessing the pump does take 1-2 minutes since I have to remove the pump, but the good thing is this pump is super reliable. We made our other water feature over 1 year ago and never had to service it 😃 Love the tips and suggestions everyone!

I’m happy to see a young woman gaining confidence with power tools. There’s something important you need to know. Her hair needs to be tied so it doesn’t fall in front of her. Getting hair caught in a tool is not fun and can be painful. As well as wearing safety glasses. I speak from experience. No one wants to spend hours in the ER having metal scraped out of their eye.

Definitely making version three tomorrow based on your design here. I even have that same Costco planter lol. So awesome. Such a clean look too. Well done!

So glad this was helpful! Thanks for the kind words. The other idea was to cut a piece of wood, drill holes, then coat with flex seal, but the mesh was a lot easier.

Can you ADD to this video so we can HEAR the SOUND of the NEW water fountain ONLY. Without the sound of the bamboo fountain in the background. That was great, I love the fact you're working with your daughter and she was learning something new challenging and not to be afraid of working with power tools. I can't tell you how much that is going to be a valuable lesson to her. Trust me, my father was much like you and I thank him everyday for that - RIP Daddy. It has made me try things on my own, that I thought we're not too complicated, too dangerous, or out of my wheelhouse, and thanks to RU-vid VIDEOS doable. I have NOT had to hire someone to do it for me, not only SAVING ME $$$, but giving me a sense of pride, accomplishment, and empowerment. ❤😊

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Paula! We started doing DIYs when we moved to our home to save $$ and so we just invested in some tools instead. I've been showing my kids how to do maintenance around the house and on our vehicles so that they can hopefully do more on their own and maybe use money that they save for investing early on. Also, I'll try and figure out how I can capture the sound of just this water feater and make it available for you to hear sometime this week.
@TheChungKids
@TheChungKids Год назад
@paulajones4037 I just made a short for you comparing the two sounds. I think the bamboo one is slightly louder in person, but you can still hear the one without bamboo especially when the 5 gal bucket isn't full. ru-vid.com5HsyQDPwe60?feature=share

Looks very nice. I think I would put the outer pot hole higher and lots of holes around the bottom of the bucket so that the overspray doesn't end up in the outer pot, draining out through the wire hole.
@TheChungKids
@TheChungKids Год назад
That could work too, but we just wanted the wire as hidden as possible. Remember, the entire solar pump/wire etc is submersible and waterproof. We leave ours our in the rain too and haven't had any issues. 😁

I could see this video going viral. Great job guys! I want to do this but I want to do with a mister. That would be so cool in my opinion, especially if you have plants around or even if you're outside I do a lot of misting and it cools the temperature alot, or at least it does in my humid area in Georgia.

I love this! I made a smaller version but used a plastic charger and used a glue gun to burn 4 holes in the charger . However it worked great except i am using a cement pedestal to put my bucket of water un which is an octagin shape so water gets in around the sides when it rains. Sad face. I should just make yours and make the pedstal a dry bird bath. I dont want any standing water because if mosquitoes. Just nervous i cant cut the screen. But i love your video and you are a great loving father!!!!
@TheChungKids
@TheChungKids 10 месяцев назад
@Lisa, thanks for you nice comment! If you don't have a grinder, you could try using tin snips, which work well, but will take longer. We've been getting a lot more mosquitoes in our area than usual this season 😔

@@TheChungKids ok! It will be a little bit I have Spring clean up going on. I was really suprised how big the solar panel was. I have bought other fountains and the solar panels were small. Anyway I look forward to making it! You made it look so easy even a child can do it (lol). I'm a old girl 66 I think I can do it all by myself. I know I can! You gave really good instructions!!!😊

looks great and thanks for the great step by step... has much water sprayed outside of the bucket and accumulated in the planter ?
@TheChungKids
@TheChungKids Год назад
Hi, good question. With the lower spray pattern we ended up using at the end of the video, all of the water stays inside of the 5 gal bucket. We refill it about once a week due to evaporation, but no loss due to 'spillage'
