DIY Water Mist System for Summer - PVC Pipe Project
With summer comes the hot weather. So here is a great way to help cool down those summer days you want to spend outside with friends.
I am using a 10' x 10' Canopy to hold the PVC pipe, but the length of the pipe can be customized to your needs.
This is a heavy duty version that can be disassembled and transported to other locations.

Hats off to you as the only one who doesn't skip over the NEED TO DRILL HOLES for the nozzles!

Good tips here. I've always used the preassembled systems sold in the stores with the flexible tubing instead of PVC. There are pros and cons: it allows you to turn individual nozzles to a different direction, but sometimes it's hard to get them to stay where you want, which your assures. Also, 2:16, great idea on adding the mesh gasket inside hose. My problem is always what I can use to support the system. I use shade sails, which aren't sturdy structures. Guess I'm going to have to construct a frame to hold the tubing. Thanks for great video that doesn't leave anything out!

Cool project as usual, thanks! Just wondering but do you think it would be possible to make a small enough hole in the PVC that you wouldn't need a misting nozzle (maybe using a hot sewing pin)
@SpecificLove7

Chances are it would a very small stream of water instead of a mist.
@PHanomaly
@PHanomaly 4 года назад
NO!🤣 NO! Kinda like using chicken wire for your screen door-- it just won't keep bugs out! The finer the mist, the better the cooling effect. Achieved by the quality of the nozzle and the force that sends the water through them.

Great idea. I am going to adapt this idea and make a sort of cage/box that will fit over my A/C unit and the spray will cool the unit when it is on.... instead of attaching the misters directly to the A/C unit itself. I will be able to just lift the thing off and store it inside during the colder months. One question.... where exactly did you pick up that drill/tap tool? What is the correct size of tap to use to thread the misters (the ones you suggested) onto the PVC pipe?
@SpecificLove7

Hi, I'm guessing that you had the water supply side of the system hooked up to a regular water spigot/hose. But how 'open' did you have the faucet turned on? Was it cranked wide open, or just a turn or two? I wonder if turning on full blast might put undo strain on the various joints, causing eventual leakage?
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 6 лет назад
+playokay We are on a lower pressure well system and used the garden hose at full pressure. But the PVC is rated for much higher pressure. So as long as you have glued the joints correctly, there should not be any problem with a standard home water pressure.

@PHanomaly

They sell these at home stores, and online. Orbit is one company. There are several 'levels' of premade misting systems; they vary according to the size of the flexible tubing, some made with PVC like here, some have pumps, etc. I've have these for years, always getting the cheaper premade ones - they are portable, and you just replace the nozzles when then they stop spraying right. But you also clean the nozzles every month or 2 by removing and soaking in vinegar for 20 minutes. I couldnt imagine an enjoyable summer without these-- and a couple tiki torches!😋

Nice video.I need one information.I live in southern India where in summer temperature goes up to 40 deg c and humidity will be 77%.The roof of my house is made of concrete and to reduce heat I gave metal sheet roofing still I cant find any difference in reducing the heat inside the room especially during night time.I would like to know if I could moisten the metal roof by fixing flexible vinyl tubing on top of the metal roof and putting finer holes on these tubes.These tubes can be connected to the super cooled water from Peltier chip and circulate the water using a medium size aquarium pump, so that the roof gets cooled down and the room temperature will be reduced.But will this idea work ?

Parts list with links for the DIY mister is in the description. Any good plumbing or local hardware store can help you make sure you get the right elbow and end caps. You can take screenshots for that part, or just tell them what you’re doing. They’ll hook you up. The nozzles and drill bit are very reasonable, at least they are today. 22 mist nozzles for $10, and under $12 for the threading drill bit. PVC is cheap enough as well.
