Just a tip when float flying. A fishing pole with a tennis ball on the line. Cast out past plane and get lime mear the plane.just reel it in.Next is a rescue boat.Never swim for a downed aircraft

Anytime you fly sea planes you need to have an rc recovery boat!
@martinsoublette95
@martinsoublette95 5 лет назад
3:15 Idea for that situation: a multirotor with a winch with a small grappling hook (you can get it in a hunting and fishing shop), hook the plane and tow it back to the shore. Or just an RC boat... ¡With an operative crane!
@rcbif101

An RC boat is a must have for any RC floatplane owner. Springer Boats are great for retrieval and easy to make.

They made a small article on it: www.flitetest.com/articles/beginner-s-guide-to-drones Though I understand it's not as indepth as their aircraft ones... I got their Gremlin quadcopter set and have been really enjoying it though! They also recommend for RTF the Emax babyhawk (same parts as gremlin but prefabricated)

You're the one hurling insults at some guy asking for help "...a quad is just some sticks fitted with propellers, tied to a gyroscope" No, actually its not. Its pretty obvious you have never built one if you think its just tying motors to a 'gyroscope'

First rule of RC boats (or float planes)... always have a fishing rod in the car rigged with a sinker tied on the line. When you inevitability strand your RC out of reach you simply cast past and over the boat/plane and the line/sinker will catch on the it as you reel it in... towing it back to you.

Just finished building these great floats / pontoons form the speed build kit, to use with the simple cub, maybe later with the simple scout (which I haven't built yet). Was a pretty fast build and I can't wait to paint them and get this Bird on the Lake or even on the snow. But right now there is only thick fog...

Sig sells the "Herr Mini-Float" set as well, very light weight and good for planes from about 32" to 50" span, it'd be a good way to break into building with balsa, and the kit is only $22

RULE ONE!!!!!: Bring recovery gear for the plane or boat BEFORE you get to the pond! A fishing pole with a tennis ball, or even a light line with one (use it like a bolo), a boat with a hook, or a motor for the plane, a boat hook, or extendable pole, something like that. THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS SWIM FOR A BOAT OR PLANE WE LOSE ONE OR TWO PEOPLE IN THE HOBBY EVERY SPRING DUE TO SWIMMING OR TRYING TO WADE FOR CRAFT IN COLD (OR FAST FLOWING) WATER!!!!

FliteTest, So when Andres flipped his plane, as long as the ESC didn't dip in and get wet, is his plane ok? Just let it dry off a little to make sure and good to go? I Remember Peter did an Electronics water proofing vid a while back. Would you recommend doing all of that before you fly with floats, or you're probably ok without?

Hey guys, So... what we found out was that... the control surfaces worked while in the water etc... BUT when we got back to the shop we plugged it in and hit the throttle... BOOM Magic smoke lol So, essentially we puffed the esc... so.. everything else was grand...except we did not let it dry out! ha OOPS!

I built one of these and was very disappointed with the flight characteristics and ended up flying it twice and giving up on it. It flew way to fast, and you had to keep it above half throttle or it would stall. On landings it would come in like a jet and was very hard to control not floaty like other Cubs that I have owned. I will try to build a scout next.

Scratch building is so hard for me. None of my planes I designed work. Does anybody have any tips to designing my own plane?
@timcuatt1640
@timcuatt1640 7 лет назад
Start with some predesigned plans, so you can practice your build skills and get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Aircraft design is a pretty giant field but luckily RC isn't too insane if you stick to simplified design and analysis methods.
@turtlesthatfly5695
@turtlesthatfly5695 7 лет назад
Senuht one of them keeps rolling to the left, no matter how much weight and trim I add to that side
@Slider2732
@Slider2732 7 лет назад
Hope this helps - don't add weight to one side and keep trim centered, change that in flight and usually only by a few clicks. It makes turns difficult if oddly loaded up, even if you get it to fly straight. The likely problem for your left banking is the motor may not have down and right (if it's on the front with a prop and if your wings and tail are definitely straight). You need only a couple of degrees pointing down and same to the right. Am sure FT have a vid on that or in the Forum. Also too powerful a motor or too large a prop can do that - check similar designs of similar weight for the motor and prop they use. If it's a plane like a Cub here, go for a shallow bowl effect. The wings and tail should make a very slight dipped bowl. Search for "Supercub 3 view" for plans of real planes and look at the slight angles that are going on. Most stable planes need a bit of dihedral, which can also be thought of as a slight bowl across the wings. Weight is important. Check similar sizes on the forums for a design and go for that weight or a bit less. CG should be about 25% of the wing chord from the front edge on a conventional plane. Slightly nose down with battery onboard, as per J Bixler - a nose heavy plane flies badly, a tail heavy plane flies once. Choose the right prop. If you're not sure, base it on a similar looking R/C plane. You need at least 25% thrust to weight to fly, always try for a bit better, if lower it'll power glide into the ground at max throttle. If overpowered, it may corkscrew through the air at 1/2 throttle ! Don't over pack with features. You can have throttle and rudder only, build one that flies and then add elevator to it, maybe then ailerons. Minor point - 3.7g servo's will work for up to 7oz planes. Choose 9g for bigger. Maiden late in the day, the wind drops a ton at sunset. First thing in the morning is fine for paved areas, but too much dew on the grass normally for foam. Above all, experiment. Throw it, crash it, fix it, throw it again. Noone builds well at first, it needs practice, crashes are needed to know what you're looking at from experience...it's all part of the learning. Good luck and happy flying !

Slider2732 Thank you for the advice! I will try doing what you talked about; thrust angle, just the right power, 3 views. Thank you! Happy flying 😊
