Really amazing. And your work speed. Really AWESOME. I will build it myself and wil use the four videos as a guide. Thanks Rob Rock.

Love your videos and music. I once used 6 mm high density pvc sheet as the core for a fibreglass sandwich. The nice thing about pvc, is how easy it is to curve with a small heat gun.

I watched at least 5 of your videos and I really like them. My problem is that I don't know that much about glass, epoxy, resin, etc. Interestingly, I recently got a poorly printed flyer from Tap Plastics, here in the San Fran Bay Area, and that helps, but it shows how that part takes some research. Also, the vacuum bagging you did earlier in the board video, that was cool. I like your fixturing and jigs to help make the parts, very nice. Anyway, I always wanted to make some parts like you did, your videos help w/ that and will inspire. I guess a good question to ask is where to go to learn about the different glasses, carbon, resins, molds, and vacuum systems. Thanks.

So this means there is some equilibrium point that the main board can be so small only to serve as platform and launch pad, with the intention of most of the sailing done with foil in plane??? Watch sailboards get smaller and smaller when this becomes quest.

A suggestion build in a set of trim tab/flaps... Possibly leading edge fowler flaps (to prevent nosing down and run a bicycle cable up to the mast for tuning or possibly a dial on the deck.... My thoughts are that as you go faster once you can't hold down the foil you can adjust even can be just run to the stabilizer just like a flying stabilizer on a glider.... Could go right up thru the deck and have a wing nut.... Could be made adjustable at speed.... Please try something like this I bet you will find much more speed by using flatter foils that the angle of attack can be changed without doing weight shift to accomplish this.... I absolutely have to build one of these and try out my ideas.... All airplanes have trim tabs.... To be able to trim on the fly would be awesome for speed and comfort...... My thinking is that in airplanes you control speed with the trim and you control climb with power as you throttle up (get wind in the sail) you trim the nose down for more speed less drag and lower angle of attack on the wing.... Once an airplane is at cruise speed a trim change will lower or raise the speed not change altitude.... (actuality it will change altitude but only until stability is reachieved).... If trimmed for cruise speed you throttle up and you will begin a cruise climb..... My 2 cents

Nice video!, we like the practical approach. What NACA profile did you use for the front wing? And for the mast? and stabilizer? I like build a hydrofoil for my school project.

What is the NACA profile you used? I found at least a hundred of them. Does the plywood core need to be marine glue?

Thanks Rob, absolutely awesome job with the videos. I am gonna build one with a 45cm mast to learn on, I just finished getting the dimensions down so I could cut the parts to size(took 3+ hours of measuring the parts on the videos).I am going to use the fiberglass core method instead of the plywood. I do have a vexing problem though. What is the center positions for the mast and wings on the fuselage? I suspect that's quite important. I calculate it as: 80cm from center of mast to center of front wing, 505cm from center of the mast to center of back wing That doesn't add up to the 100+cm length of the mast. BUT where to put the center of the mast on the fuselage? Help. Thanks again.

Hi. What does the fiberglass add to the composite that the carbon doesn't already provide?
@robrockwindsurfboards75
@robrockwindsurfboards75 7 лет назад
The fiberglass is the layer that can be sanded. You do not want to sand the carbon.

Birch plywood. Also look at the movie how to make the back wing. This has a glass / epoxy core.
@Errol.C-nz
@Errol.C-nz 4 года назад
@@robrockwindsurfboards75 should have gone with a mold at LEAST for the top surface...no way you can get an acurate representation of your targeted foil profile backward building from inside out... then you go and destroy your foil strength & stiffnes by sanding through your laminations... combining carbon fiber & glass also a no go
@zzebowa
@zzebowa 6 лет назад
Why down curve the wing? And up curved wing, dihedral wing is self levelling. You also used a LOT of carbon and glass on that wing, I am sure it doesnt need that much. Also have you thought that a rough finish on the wing will produce a turbulent boundary layer and less drag? Dont know what the Reynolds number is for a wing in water, but golf balls have dimples for this reason. (And remember the 'Ophi' speed dents on Mistrals in the day?)

Unbelievable. The biggest and richest media company in the world insists on shoving advertisting down our throats, not just occasionally, but consistently with every video. What could be a library of information is just a vehicle to sell more crap and make more money.

Vacuum is not necessary in order to create a working foil.
@petrezekdj
@petrezekdj 4 года назад
Lot of wrong things here let’s do some order... the stabilizer is called winglet and is there to reduce induced drag, building composite without a vacuum? Does not work it’s a waste of material, strength and stiffness and weight too is screwed up everywhere...you need to master some pre preg techniques and you can use a fridge engine for the vacuum but it is absolutely necessary, next plywood, bad idea it takes humidity and no mater what it will drink water at some time with the result of a catastrophic structural break down ( quite strong forces are involved in a foil) with the result of some injuries... so lot of study required here
