Have you ever thought of adding skis to the bottom? (raised up of course)... like how ice fishing communities does it "Smitty Sled", basically same thing but reason why ice fishermens add skis is because they pull/ glide so~~ much easier, smoother ON snow. You should check it out.

Lay all your gear in a plastic tarp and wrap it up before you tie it down. Keeps it dry plus you have a shelter or sleeping tarp. Used that method for the 17 years I lived in the Arctic pulling stuff behind a snowmobile.

Nice job fella! Very similar to mine though I put a grommet everywhere the rope went into the sled, to save on cutting into the rope. Nice!

Nice Pulk there! I have one that I use for ice fishing... basically the same. PVC is always the way to go! Thanks for a look at your rig.

Thanks for sharing! Like the ropes through the PVC vs a l metal rod. Seems like it’s less susceptible to problems under stress. My question is... do you think there is advantage to clipping into the side of your hips vs both attached to the lower back?

Probably really late, but in short, no. I'd venture to bet that when you walk it would exert more pressure on one hip at a time, and that'd get real uncomfortable. The way he has it set up (note the rope is crossed), it probably distributes the weight pretty evenly across his belly and makes the load feel much lighter than it is.

Get yourself a large zippered duffle bag for it to store your gear in, then place your daypack in back. You can cover it with a tarp to keep all the snow out. Also if I remember you can set your snap links on the harness out more for more controllability of the sled. And yes shorter sleds work great also. 👍🏻👍🏻

the rigid bars to the sled are there to stop the sled from hitting you from behind when you go downhill. Slack vs rigid on the pulling method can alsobe determined by the type of therrain you are in. In the Northern boreal of Canada where live, most of the times in the mountains I prefer slack cords even if the sled can kick me in the legs sometimes, because a hand held slack line is much more manoevrable. Nice vid! Andgreat ideas to make things on the cheap

Sweet!...definitely the answer to taking in a winter load...Howie (aka BigSkyTrapper) always uses a pulk...i have just figured the terrain was to dang steep around here to manage a sled...but some how Howie makes it work...great idea using the Molle ll waist belt...atb...woods

Good timing! I'm just building a new pulk, my old one finally died after years of service. I'm flattening some 1" PVC and screwing it along the top "rim". Extra support/stiffness for the tie downs. Used wood previously and of course, had to touch up the finish. Aiming to eliminate that. Like the crossed shafts. The ALICE pack belt is genius!

Awesome video, thanks for showing us how you made your pulk sled. I'm going to go make myself one for this winter. I did my first winter camping trip last winter where I carried everything. I knew after that experience I had to build myself a sled for the next time.

Appreciate creative and economical ways to tackle a challenge, such as this one. Appears to function well and to handle a wide variety of cargo. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas.

I talked to a dog sled race one time in Alaska 11 meters was quite interesting great show
@kristyjennings-rebarjinkie3078
That is very cool. I live in Alabama, so not much snow, so my first thought was how I could add wheels for when there's no snow on the ground. Then I realized, that would just be a wagon lol. I found your channel today and have enjoyed watching many of your videos this evening. Thanks for taking the time o make your videos :-)

I have one but used Fiberglass poles. I used a mollie vest and belt for a harness. Yours looks good as well. I actually just did a DIY video as well but it's another topic. Thumbs up!!!

well thought out build of the sled and as Ian C said the pvc poles are a must, I've seen people pull sleds with only the ropes and going down hill the sled wants to go faster than you....if you don't post before the 25th , Merry Christmas to you and your family

The PVC pipe is helpful going downhill lol so the sled doesn't run into you

Home Depot has one , 65" long , 5" deep , 22" wide , 300 lb load capacity ... $19.80 ! i don't know how durable it is compared to others , but at less than $20 i figure it may be worth it . ( not for me , i live in florida .)

My first sled had metal poles like yours, but I found that WOOD poles work better than the metal poles. Wood doesn't make the clanking sound. Wood is cheaper. Wood with the hardware does not abraid the ropes that actually does the sled pulling. by the way, i use old wood toboggan for the sleds. I like the stiffness of the wood toboggans as opposed to the plastic that tend to flex and even crack/break sometimes.

Swedish Survival [Bushcraft - Nature] We are getting freezing rain as I write. Our 1st winter precipitation this year. Its been so dry since September that fires have been the hazard here so it's hard to complain just praying it doesn't coat the trees enough to start busting them up.
