My father was spring maker. I grow up in his workshop. This solution is almost perfect i have to say, amoung that lot of weak experiment on youtube. Making low quantity unique spings are about preparing special tools for it. Coiling tool is fine, only thing that is missing, is control during coiling, therefore you need to prepare a leverage to guide the wire.
Quick update...a transfer punch set avail at harbor freight will give you most diameters up thru half inch to various ...also already made springs are avail at Reid supply Muskegon mi. They come in various Dia and strength, up to about 10 inches long
nice work! Don't 'toss' nothin' Radiusing the corners would make that thing look great! God bless the flap disc! I have a Saved From the Scrap Heap chuck 'soon I'll have one of These! thanks
Why didn't you use the lathe to make the springs and lost so much time to build that tool to make the springs by hand? I used the lathe at 16 rpm to bend the springs by sliding the wire inside the thread that I prepared earlier with the pitch and diameter that was used to make the springs.
THIS spring winder is just right on fella. I made one just like yours except mine was not so polished. Did this at work. My bossman was so pissed at me for wasting time by his book and thinking. When the owner of the business heard this he told the bossman that if that would ever happen again he would be fired for being an idiot PERIOD. Making springs to keep the job going and not waiting for parts from the purchasing agent "LARRY EDDICKINGER, THE DOUCHEBAG" would take days. This guy was the dumbest dood the world know. Mr. two left hands and no brain either. This way the job got done ASAP without down time. Thanks for the memories Sir. Good day and peace too. vf
