If someone’s really worried about the weights crumbling, I’d assume spraying each plate with a truck bed liner spray or something similar would help with that. Maybe wrapping each plate individually or something too
@solomonmachine2137
@solomonmachine2137 2 года назад
Yeah I totally agree. Some flex seal or truck bed liner or any spray coating would definitely help. I’m just literally not too worried about them after actually testing the machine! Thank you!

I was thinking glue rubber pads in between. Maybe repurpose something like strips of an old innertube

this is smart. Also could put rebar or wire mesh in them. Rebar may help add to the weight and its very cheap. Lay a bunch of it in there. Also use 5000psi concrete mix or add some extra portland.

@SkylerKingTW
@SkylerKingTW 9 месяцев назад
Your pulley setup provides a 2/1 mechanical advantage, effectively reducing the load by half. So, for example, when you said "this is eight plates, which should be 120lbs" it would actually only require 60lbs of force to lift the 120lbs that is selected on the weight stack. This video was randomly recommended to me, so I don't know what type of stuff you typically do, if you already know this, or if you care. Just wanted to put it out there in case the information is at all useful.
@solomonmachine2137
@solomonmachine2137 9 месяцев назад
Thank you for your comment. I'm aware of the 2 to 1 mechanical advantage, I've explained it in earlier videos. I believe I'm mostly referring to the wood frame supporting the weight (it is) and how a person using a regular cable machine would envision the weight. If it was a real cable machine with a real stack, it wouldn't say 70lbs instead of 140 for example. Honestly I feel like you're being lame.
@SkylerKingTW
@SkylerKingTW 9 месяцев назад
@@solomonmachine2137 That's true, any cable machine just states the weight of the stack, not the weight that the user is lifting. Like I said, I am not familiar with your channel or your background, I just see a random video being recommended where a guy makes a cable machine out of wood and uses concrete for weight. So, there is a reasonable chance that "this guy" might not be aware of the mechanical advantages or disadvantages that various pulley setups result in. I went out of my way to give the information while also trying to make it clear that I am not trying to be a dick or be condescending, etc. Sorry that you seem to have taken it so personally, despite that. I just took a quick glance at your channel and I can see that you make equipment often. Looks like it's good stuff, too (I will watch some of the videos after I post this reply). Either way, keep doing what you're doing. The world needs more people that work with their hands and are capable of making things.

I started making one of these from 2x2 sq tube, had about 1/3 of it finished, then saw a CL add for a gym that was selling their old equipment. Got a full cable cross over machine for $300, never looked back. BTW, putting heavy springs at the bottom of the stack, helps to cushion the blow and keep it from cracking. It's too bad the real steel plates are so expensive.
@solomonmachine2137

Yeah I got 8 cast iron stacks from this guy on craigslist for $500, that was a good deal! and so was your cable crossover! were all just trying to workout for cheap! good idea about the springs

This build is great, I'm from South Africa, gym equipment is unaffordable in SA. I'm busy building a power cage, but I want to incorporate a cable crossover system into the two front upright tubings. If I only have one weight stack, how much weight am I going to lose to mechanical advantage? How do you calculate the amount of resistance you lose when adding pulleys?

Awesome video! Do you think there is a way to rig a rogue slinger into an adjustable cable stack? I have the slinger and a stack but it is only set up for high/low row. I am wondering how i can set it up to be used as an adjustable cable stack.
@solomonmachine2137
@solomonmachine2137 2 года назад
you would essentially have to add a lot of pieces. to my understanding, the slinger is just the top few pulleys. an adjustable machine essentially is a cable loop with the weight stack weighing down the loop at some point along it. The adjustable part is where the loop connects hence why you adjust the machine from there. You would have to add like 5-6 pulleys and fabricate a few pieces
