DIY Zip Tie Tiara

Hello Everyone!
Today we are attempting to delve further into the world of DIY zip tie jewelry. This is a popular item on Etsy and some the creations are really cool and deceptively intricate. I can see the evolution of these items becoming more and more ornate and breaking into costuming, cosplay, and maybe even fashion.
Naturally I want to give it a try. I decided start with an easy craft today. That was to recreate a dupe of the Metropolis headband or tiara that you can buy online for up to $40.00. That price tag seemed a bit hefty for actual zip ties on a headband. This item is listed across several platforms and is called the Metropolis Headpiece. It’s pretty simple, an all-black, fan design of equal length zip ties on a black headband.
This seemed impossible to mess up, so I gave it a try. Honestly, it turned out perfectly on the first attempt. It was so easy, I’m definitely going to attempt more intricate items in the future, but for now, I’m very pleased with how this project turned out. Thank you! So, that one was an experiment and I loved it! I took four canvases and a bunch of cans of spray paint (the whole rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and metallic gold). then I waited for it to rain. Stronger than a sprinkle, but not quite a downpour. The water splatters on the canvas stop the paint from sticking in random speckles (that's what creates the white spaces) and I sprayed a free-hand version of what I thought looked like the Helix Nebula (close counts). Lightly misted the metallic gold over the top and carefully brought them into dry over night. Keeping them horizontal so the water stayed in place. Next day they were dry and I hung them up. (Coolest thing, is that due to the metallic gold on top they seems to change color in certain lights and angles, because some times the metallic catches the light and sometimes it's the true paint color.) Really fun to do!

If you used a hot glue gun to secure them to the headband it might keep them from shifting around so much. Would have looked great with your ballgown! Zip ties... who would have thought?! Lol

Hey girl great vid! Do they wobble around because is flexible plastic or are they quite rigid?

Thank you! It's fairly steady. The zip ties aren't heavy so they don't wobble too much. If you move your head quickly they do move a bit, but nothing even close enough to coming off your head. Be careful in high winds tho :)
