Thanks so much for this video! I make jean bags too but often make different closures because I cant get the ends to look nice. I like to have linings even on little coin purses! No one shows to not sew over the teeth! Im trying this today!

I agree... All the other techniques either sew right over the zip teeth, which gives ugly corners, or insert tabs, which restrict the opening. This technique is great!

@jaclynlee4040 Late reply but in case you are still wondering, sewing over the zipper can be really bad for the needle and thread too - I find my thread snaps when I sew over the zipper. Just my two cents ! 😊

Hey Jacq, how many layers of interfacing are there on the exterior material? On the video, it seems there are meant to be 1 layer of IF and 1 layer of FF, but the instructions say to cut 4 pcs of IF. Could you please help? Cheers!

4 IF, 2 for exterior, 2 for cotton lining I skipped the IF for my lining because they were stiff enough.

Thank you for this. At first you leave a gap but then you go back and close the gap. I don’t understand that part.
@SewingSeedsOfLove
@SewingSeedsOfLove Год назад
It’s easier to sew TOWARDS the zipper to close up the gap than to have the presser foot resting on the bulk from the zipper.

Hello, why do you leave the gap then go back and sew it? I'm not understanding the construction. Why not sew it all at once?
@debbiebeemer4795
@debbiebeemer4795 Год назад
You can only sew up close to the zipper, as you approach the zipper. Then you have to jump way over, to get the presser foot all the way past (passed?) the big zipper hump. So then you have to remove the pouch, and flip it over, so you can approach from the other direction, and then sew up close , and close up most of the gap. Note, you never actually sew OVER the zipper. I had your same question at first, so re-watched it, and realized, right, you can't jump the zipper hump and sew as close sewing away from the hump. Hope that makes sense.

QUESTION: Why put the Zipper Pull on, then slide it off, then put it on again??
@SewingSeedsOfLove
@SewingSeedsOfLove Год назад
To zip the zipper teeth together fully, from start to end. So that both ends are closed.
@virm5994
@virm5994 Год назад
I guess I'm confused as to why the lining is cut so much smaller than the outside of the bag? I usually always cut mine the same size.
@SewingSeedsOfLove
@SewingSeedsOfLove Год назад
So that the lining isn’t excessively baggy on the inside. There’s interfacing on the exterior and that takes up space and most often the lining ends up looking baggy.

What seam allowance are you using? I don’t fully understand the zipper part. You skip and there is a gap but then you see up the gap. I don’t understand what’s going on. Do you turn the zipper to face the other side or something??
@SewingSeedsOfLove
@SewingSeedsOfLove Год назад
It’s easier to sew TOWARDS the zipper when closing up the gap. Which is why there’s a switch in direction. Seam allowance is 1cm (3/8”).

This is the BEST method for me and I am now using it every time! The only thing I do differently is that I like the outer fabric top stitched so I do that instead of the lining. Does anyone know if it works to top stitch lining and outer, separately of course? (I do find the video difficult to watch. If you ever have time to remake it, perhaps eliminate as much of the fabric flipping as possible?) But I will be forever grateful for this genius method!!
