Have you ever gotten a zippo with a loose insert? It’s not a huge deal, but it can be annoying and can hurt the experience of using the lighter. There’s a very simple way to go about fixing this, and in this video I show you how to do that.

Similarly to others, bought a zippo and it felt loose, tried tightening the case, but this worked way better, thanks!

It was nice to see a more recent video with better visual and better explanation, I just got a new zippo and it was sliding up a lot, not anymore after watching this video

Literally bought another zippo yesterday and started trying tricks with it today and noticed it was very loose. So loose it slid out so much when I flicked it open it wouldn’t allow the top to close. Perfect timing on the video

The old zippos from the 60s that I own dont have that problem. The newer ones just dont have the same quality.

Omg bro tysm i just got this brand new zippo but it went up so far every 5 flicks that the wheel prefented me from closing i overdid the whiddning so it wont muve untill i pull a lot tysm

The problem I can see with doing this is that it will most likely let the fuel evaporate quicker. Think if you could widen just the areas that have the lumps on but leave the very bottom edge of the insert as it should be could work better.

I bought a zippo right from the factory in Bradford a week ago and the insert is so loose, if I flip the lighter upside down with the lid open, it falls out. I'm afraid of bending the metal too far, but I might try this.

if you dont want to deform your zippo lighter just take strip of paper just enought to go around the zippo and put around it and before you do it make sure you refuel it and put new flint in bcs it can take minute or two to put it together

Just put a bit less fuel when fuel a lighter. Fuel works like a lubricant and allows to pop up an insert much easier.

The felt isn’t gonna properly seal on it now … it didnt even in the factory setting… u just added more to it … now the fuel will leak out more n wont long enough

I did this to one of some of my Zippos with a loose insert. It really solved the problem. You can't do this though to Zippos produced from the 1940s to the 1960s. The inserts from these eras are made of a stiff non-malleable material.
