NCT is the most unique group in kpop and that's why they're my favorite their member system isn't as complicated as people think, and since you're doing one unit at a time it's gonna be easier to learn

NCT are extremely experimental, it's basically their signature. Neo Culture Technology. 22 active members (1 member is in hiatus rn) and 4 units, yes. I highly recommend checking out all the units because all of them have different sounds and vibes, but it's all uniquely NCT. NCT Dream's sound, as you can probably tell, tend to be more bright and energetic, often pop r&b inspired, connecting with the dreams of youths, even as they and their target demographic age together. Boom was actually only missing 1 member, Mark. The reason you saw only 5 members in some shots is because the NCT units all have some members that overlap and Mark and Haechan are in both NCT 127 and NCT Dream. At the time of Boom's release, Dream used to have a system where when a member turns 20 they would graduate and leave the unit, so Mark had left. But Haechan was busy with NCT 127 tours and schedule and didn't have as much time to film with them so he's not in some shots. In 2020, their company SM, decided to completeyl get rid of the graduation system and Mark got to rejoin the group, where he happily is back in and there are no plans for anyone to leave ever again. The other overlapping member you'll see when you explore the other units is Winwin who is in both NCT 127 and WayV. He joined WayV when they debuted in 2019 and so that's where he's been active and due to WayV's focus on the Chinese market, he's unable to promote with NCT 127 anymore. Some further explanation on the units, NCT 127, the 2nd subunit and most experimental, tend to have lots of hip hop, edm & r&b. The 127 is the longitude of Seoul, their message is to spread kpop from Seoul to the rest of the world. Has 9 active members and also debuted in 2016 with Dream. WayV, the 4th and newest subunit, debuted in 2019. WayV stands for We Are Your Vision, and they are the Chinese subunit, focusing on the Chinese market with the message of being representatives of powerful music, almost like gods. Their sound is often a bit sexier than the other units with more rock elements combined with the usual r&b and hip hop. They have 6 active members rn, 1 member is on hiatus. NCT U is the 1st subunit of NCT, debuting the group as whole back in 2016. The concept of NCT U is that it's rotational, it pulls members from all of the aforementioned units and randomizes them to fit them into different combinations of members that fit the concept of every new song. No NCT U track has had the same lineup, it changes everytime. It's a fun way to experiment with different sounds and have the members work together in combinations they've never had the opportunity to do before as well as showing fans and newcomers members they might not have notices before hand because of the different units. I recommend checking out NCT U last as you're more likely to recognize everyone after seeing more of the 3 units separately. While NCT mainly promote in their units, they do occasionally come together as one full group to release a project album all together. On this album majority of the songs are NCT U songs where all the members of the group are divided up together, as well as having at least 1 song from every unit. There's also always 1 song for the whole group to perform together. They've only done these year project albums 3 times since the groups 2016 debut, but everytime it's epic and a lot of work gets put into it and it's a lot of fun for the members. The songs are: Black on Black (2018 Empathy), Resonance (2020 Resonance), Beautiful (2021 Universe). i believe Mark was 17 and the youngest, Jisung, was 14 at the time chewing gum came out. with that, 2000 liners were 16 and chenle (u can pronounce the name as chen-luh) was also 14 since his bday is in November and they debuted on august 25.

Aw this was so fun to watch! NCT Dream is indeed an interesting group to definitely keep tabs on. Their concept is literally growth. I'm with you laughing at the sudden growth spurt from CG to Boom. In fact, Chenle and Jisung were the shortest guys in Chewing Gum and Haechan was the tallest, but now it's the total opposite 😂
