I may be way off base but when I am cleaning my xiao and hulusi I use a soft swab cloth wrapped around a flute cleaning rod. After I am sure that all moisture has been removed I apply mineral oil to the insides as well as the edges of each hole to prevent any future moister damage. I let it rest and absorb the oil for about an hour then I use another clean swab to remove any excess mineral oil. I would never let water touch my precious flutes.

If I join the 2 Dizi parts using no lubricants and everytime I want to keep away the instrument, is it bad to join and and separate the 2 parts for putting it in the bag and putting it appart everytime I practice and stop practicing?

I recently bought a purple bamboo two piece xiao, and I was very disappointed to notice, after a few months, that it had developed a fine crack. Now, I can barely get a whisper of sound out of it because of the air leak. Please, what can I use to seal up the crack that won't damage the instrument?

Hi. I'm on the look-out for a louder xiao flute than the one I have now, which is a purple bamboo xiao. My question is what kind of matterial am I looking for in order to have a louder and more vibrant flute? Thanks for all your great videos; I enjoy them very much.

A hardwood flute might be what you're looking for.

Would bees wax work for oiling? Or is it too thick?

How often you shall rinse the flute with water? Every time after playing? And how often to lube it? Thank you.
@Chiinnature
@Chiinnature 7 лет назад
only once a very long while, never need to do that myself much unless I am playing it a LOT. No need to keep washing and rinsing, it's not a cup. lol

Doesnt dizi have a membrane or something inside that has to be changed after some time? i am not sure as i havent bought one yet but i saw a post about it and they change the membrane.. is that necessary?
@Chiinnature
@Chiinnature 6 лет назад
that is a bawu, not a dizi. Dizi use a membrane that is taped on the hole, not inside
@angelnokare6906
@angelnokare6906 6 лет назад
that was a fast reply , thanks. But is still has to be changed regularly ? I dont know much about these things i just wish to play them but i cant find much info about the dimos. how long they last and such..
@Chiinnature
@Chiinnature 6 лет назад
dizi membrane? i can use it for a whole year if i don't break it by accident, casual playing is fine. If you are going to concert performance, you might change the thing to a new piece a few days before the play day to make sure it is fresh and sounding good. Old dimo / membrane make the sound more dull and flat, less lively etc... and the bawa membrane is made of "brass" which don't relaly need changing much unless yours is very fucked up inside and all rusted... but my hulusi / bagwa is still working fine after 2 yrs no changing that piece..!
@Chiinnature
@Chiinnature 6 лет назад
btw, dimo are made from bamboo membrane, so you can store them in the fridge for them to stay fresh-er. If you do not want to do that.. observe the color, old dimo is more yellow and dull in color, then change them out for a new one or buy a new pack which only cost like 2 dollars or even less if you know where to get them cheap. they come in one pack with many long stripes, which you cut them up with a cutter or scissor and then cut up the "tubes" of each pieces and there goes your piece to use.. its a LOT of pieces in one pack, more than enough for one to fuck up a piece everyday lol

Hello my name is Beihan Kai.. I wanted to ask something.. I bought my first Dizi in C Key and it is a study level according on a description in a online store last month and it only cost 30-50 dollars respectively.. I practice so hard everyday and now I can play the High octaves and the Low octaves of the Dizi I bought.. As the days pass since last month, I watch videos to learn more about Dizi and how to take care of it.. Then, I noticed that there is something wrong with this Dizi I bought.. It is off tune.. Well, I have no chance to visit a legit Chinese music store here because it is not available here in Philippines.. Is there another way to do just to save this Dizi I have to make it sound accurate or can you suggest ideas for me to follow.. Do I need to buy new one and junk this up?

Hi, May I know where did you buy your Dizi? I'm also from the PH :)

That sucks... I too bought my C key dizi. I don't practice much so I still don't know the quality of the one they sent. Looks good for now. We can only put trust in them because we can't hold try and examine before buying.

Oolong? That's too cheap, let's use Da Hong Pao! xD I mean seriously, I dunno about China but in my country Oolong is the most expensive kind of tea :v
@Chiinnature
@Chiinnature 6 лет назад
I have some very cheap dai hung pao here, and some ultra expensive oolong here, you know everything comes in different grade right? it's not the type, it's hte grade of that type that is cheap or not. Just like desrcibing people, it's not yellow or black or white that is cheap, it's the person and the class they are in. :)
@Sk0lzky
@Sk0lzky 6 лет назад
Yeah of course, I'm just kidding :D It's probably because oolong is not very popular in the eastern europe (DHP even less) so the only stuff we import is meant for tea-freaks that are willing to spend more money on tea. It's still not terribly expensive, I know that British people are always shocked by the quality of the tea compared to price here :D
