DJ AM Survives a Plane Crash 

Imagine surviving a horrific plane crash that only one other person survived, and die of an overdose less than a year later. RIP.

Even after such a traumatic event, it's unfortunate that dude didn't survive another year.

I pulled this up today. I often think about him.

The guy had balls to get on a plane so soon after what happened to him

AM was a legend, it's unfortunate this happened he was clean for a while. Drugs addiction like many things in life is something that can come back anytime. RIP

Nothing is more important than your sobriety. The sad part is that he probably relapsed, because of the pain & anxiety meds from the accident. He should have checked back into a rehab as soon as he no longer needed them. Just heartbreaking in every way. RIP

I really liked DJ AM. I thought he was a good man and very talented. So sad when he died. Heartbreaking 💔

I watched his Bio. It's a damn shame how hard he tried to get away from crack. He was doing good. He was living the good life until his plane crashed. He was hurting so bad he had to take pain meds. I'm a recovering addict myself and I know you can't take other drugs or alcohol because it tears down the wall you've put up to not do your drug of choice. Not only did he go through a ton of pain physically. He went through a lot mentally. Even though I never met him you couldn't help but not like the guy and root for him. I've went through the same stuff he went through. It broke my heart to see he relapse and overdosed. I've seen so many famous people overdose or commit suicide. It seems like they have the whole world in their hands, but the truth of the matter is they are human too. They have their own demons too.

I survived a motorcycle accident and lost my arm- not nearly as bad as a plane crash but I know what it’s like to go through tragedy having been an addict and then tragedy struck getting put on tons of pain meds and a button I could push at my own disposal- I got out of the hospital and a year later I OD’d- survived that as well- lucky I did- not everyone gets that many chances life is crazy

"Everyone telling him he's supposed to be afraid of planes." Ridiculous.

This is why the pain medications that get prescribed need to be carefully handled. An addict who had gotten clean was back in a world he didn't want to be.

It was august 28th, 2009. DJ AM’s friend Alex Burns, became worried after Adam had missed his flight to Las Vegas knowing he has been using again, rushes up to the 7th floor and knocks on the door of his 2 million dollar Manhattan apartment, only to receive no answer. He then commands building staff to force enter as he had a bad feeling. Turns out Adam had placed the security latch on his door with furniture butted-up against it. That’s when NYPD is called to intervene with proper measures. After gaining access inside, the officers, staff and his friend Alex Burns discover Adam’s lifeless body lying on his bed, belly down. He was described to have been wearing grey sweat pants with no shirt. His police report also noted that he was discovered in a state of no return as it was visually clear that he had been deceased for ~12 hours and was in the Livor mortis state. With a blueish-purple discoloration to the skin, with slight inflammation. Fun fact: Travis Barkers went on a talk show and mentioned that one of the last things Adam said to him was that ‘He (Adam) wanted to take a lot of drugs and say “f*ck it”… That, paired with the amount of different drugs AND having swallowed eight oxys, with another one still found in his mouth, leads me to believe it was suicide to an extent. DJ PREMIER had lunch with Adam on the 26th of August in New York. Premier mentioned that Adam seemed fine and was optimistic about his future and their upcoming Nike Pack featuring DJ AM dunks and DJ PREMIER AF1 lows, along with a set of vinyl records to compliment the sneakers. Rumors say he had 2 friends over the day prior, and eventually kicked them out to further binge on his cocktail of drugs. What’s interesting is ‘the final destination 2009’ came out this exact day he was found. I’m having a hard time believing this was a coincidence, considering him and barker ‘cheated death’ less than a year prior…. RIP DJ AM, HIS CAT MUGGSY, HIS SISTER LARA

I survived a horrible car crash I flipped over a few times and hit a tree. I was never the same after. PTSD is real.
