Here's why this is unironically my favorite mash-up. You take 3 songs that have 0 business going together, and you make it work. You weave them together expertly on your musical loom, and then look at it, and say "that's just not enough." You then flip the lyrics and backing, and make it so seamless, no one would think it never wasn't supposed to be like this

Fireflies: being trapped in imagination Basket Case: Being trapped in delusions Gangster's paradise: being trapped in a life style. These threes songs tell a strange coming age story and all the traps we fall into over our life time. Only for childlike imagination to return when we need it most.
Things I love about this: 1. 0:47 good pitch shift to the adjacent chord tone. 2. 1:20 pitch shifting the B natural to B flat to the adjacent chord tone. 3. 1:28 using "Welcome to Paradise" as background vocals to compliment "Gangster's Paradise". 4. 1:46 tuning verse 2 of "Basket Case" to the piano line of "Fireflies". 5. 3:37 pitch shifting to match the dominant chord. 6. 4:03 pitch shifting and timing the vocals to mirror that of "Basket Case". 7. 4:08 pitch shifting the vocals from F major to Eb major. @@gnbman The first part of the song (for the most part) uses Firefiles as the music, but Basketcase as the lyrics, but at the end, it switched to Basketcase music and Fireflies lyrics.
This whole thing just blows me away. But I think my favorite part doesn’t have to do with the mashup itself. I showed it to my sister, and her facial journey throughout it was priceless.
All this time later, I am still in awe of how good this is. The technical expertise that has made the entirety of it flawless, the knowledge of musical theory to know how to sync up three songs that melodically couldn't be any different, and the understanding of the underlying thematic elements of each songs lyrics to create a "dream deferred" narrative on the nature of reality and the impact of perception on people often seen as simply "criminal" by a large majority of the population. All in all, this is your opus magnum DJC, and you should be eternally proud of it.
Unpopular opinion: Crocodile Chop is the worst song in all the mouth albums and is extremely overrated. It's not a bad mix, but not a particularly good one.
Man, without this video I don’t think I’d ever have noticed how similar Fireflies and Basket Case are vocally. A true 10/10 mashup. Also definitely making 3:30 onward a ringtone because that’s a real jam.
I wish i lived in the parallel universe in which Owl City was a punk band cuz fireflies with basketcase instrumentals is the hardest slap ive heard the last decade
@@chesterstevens8870 I mean...Weird Al masters every genre he tries, outlasts the originals, and is widely loved by most everyone...all this while doing parodies, comedy, and making polkas on his accordian...I do not think its possible for anyone to top Weird Al. He's the coolest white nerd out there.
@@gypsywoman9140 I disagree; a parody is only as good as the song it apes, and Weird Al ran out of good music to parody some time after Poodle Hat. While I will occasionally listen to his newer stuff, none of it tops the classics.

4:07 is absolutely sublime! I don't normally get to see mashup artists talented enough to alter the melody of the vocals and make it sound completely natural. Wonderful effort, man!
I remember listening to this song on a playlist while I was trying to breed the rare blue axolotl in Minecraft. It got to this one part here: 2:25 and I was going back to breed my axolotls, and when I saw it for the first time the song got to the end of that verse. After that, I knew what to name it... "Cumberbund". 😊

DJ Cummerbund, I'm coming back to this song again after god knows how many plays, and just want to say once again what a fantastic creation this is... It just makes me feel something I can't describe. The first few minutes are a journey in itself but when that switchup hits it's euphoric. Thank you so much for making this, and thank you for your dedication to reading and replying to so many comments. I'd just like to add as a testament to your ability as a mashup artist, I played this to my friends one time, and when the note change for the word "seems" hit at 4:09 everyone in the room who was singing along to the lyrics of Fireflies instinctively hit the altered note from this version without ever having heard it before, instead of how it sounds in the original. It really made me realise how much effort went into this.
Of all your mashups and downs, this is my favorite. Not even your recent stuff tops this. It just... works so well. I hope that the original performers get a look at this someday
