History in the making as DJ Develop (Bigram John Zayas) of the Allies throws down at the legendary 1998 DMC American Final, Irving Plaza, NYC, August 15th.
He should have definitely gotten 2nd or 3rd that year. I'm sure he didn't because he didn't have a scratching section in his routine but it was definitely more musical than most of the competitors that year.
I was there that night and dummy got third just because of his intro .shortkut was nice but i thought he should have got 3rd and develop 2nd but develop was missing 45seconds of scratching or something.still a beast
Man I thought the same. This is when the Allies brought out a lot of new shit, I can think of was no scratching. God forbid they docked him because he didn't have a separate scratch routine, but shit, now you can win a DMC by just pushing buttons most of the routine.
This ws my all-time favorite DJ set of the first DJ video that I ever bought in my life! I love all the different juggles in this mix! But the best part of this set was the end-with that tone record. Another fine gem, Mr. Shum !😁
I was there too that night with my DJ Presyce and couldn't believe the level of competition that year! These Develop beat juggles were definitely enough for 2nd place. ShortKut, Presyce, Swift Roc, and Do Boy were all dope too. I got to meet my idol Lord Finesse that night which is still a highlight of my life. Thank you again for all the videos you post.
He won the ITF beat juggling category in '98. But yeah, you're right - not DMC which would've been hard to win through juggling alone against all-rounders like Craze and A-Trak.
Wanted to put this on Craze's routine, but I think it's relevant to the top 5 of '98. . . "Once upon a time, a DJ's task, was just to play records, what more could you ask!!" - Reckless '84.
