I love this lesson! I play a lot of disco and 80's pop for festival crowds and this is super affirming for me. Please do more like this and for vinyl.

Hey Jonathan. I've been doing this almost as long as you but I watch your movies anyway :) . Sound Ideas and solid info based from your own experience. I usually just nod and agree. So also this time, but here's my comment for the last 5 years of silence... This music is coming back stronger and stronger. When you have the originals that the millennials know from recent remixes, you get them dancing like crazy, not only the middle aged people. Once they're lured in by that, you can keep 'em on the dance floor the rest of the night with the classics and originals they've never heard before. Soon, if this is a continuing concept, there's more people in their 20's than 40's or 50's that maybe was the original target for the concept. It's what happened in a club where I've been a resident DJ for a long time. 3 years ago we opened up RED which is a bit more of a cocktail area and social than the other two dance floors where the recent top 40 and club hits are pumping. The music is restricted to soul/funk/disco (individually interpretable) and while not restricted to only the stuff from the 70's and 80's, most of it is. Usually the older generation comes in early and leaves half way through the night and the younger ones take over gradually and keep it busy 'till closing time. I usually don't want to play in the same place too often, because if I don't get bored, management or the customers will. I like to play different styles in different places to keep myself interested and on my toes, but I tend to play more often at this RED, because it's very difficult to find Dj's who either want or can play the right music. It's great that you promote this genre to the young and up'n'coming DJ's. They need to get this info somewhere. Not everyone has a mentor to guide them. IF you, YES YOU, not Johnathan, get this music in your collection and learn how to use it, it will give you great opportunities to play better paid gigs than the ordinary club/pub DJ. That I can guarantee! Since I dug in to my record collection and started playing at RED, I've been offered more well paid gigs in respected venues than ever before. Not because I'm famous among people, but because other DJ's and promotors know who I am. It's a small world once you're in it, where everybody knows about everyone. Who knew that after 32 years as a DJ, that it's the music I started to play mid 80's that would set me apart from other DJ's.

Great! The 70-80s years music is magnificent! Unfortunately very difficult to mix. Personally I love to mix the old school with modern music, born very interesting mix. For example, "I Want You Back-The Jackson 5 / O baby-Seizo"

Talking about old school being more difficult to mix and being all over the place, Tom Moulton had a heart attack remixing Doctor Love by First Choice (Salsoul/Goldmind label 1977] . That's how disco music recorded live was all over the place.

Wondering if anyone could help me. One of my channel faders has stopped working and only plays sound when it is pushed and held to the top. Does anyone know what's caused this and how to fix it??

Got to love this as this is my jam! Quick question though, could you explain the adjustment of the tempo fader when you are bringing in the Lady Marmalade track? I get it’s to match the tempo, but I see you moving it a fair bit, is this to be used instead of nudging the jog wheel?
