show me one production like this beside memphis from the 90s - hiphop journalism and media slept on them and now we got lack of history and documentarys compared to NY or LA scene ... RIP LORD INFAMOUS RIP GANGSTA BOO RIP KOOPSTA KNICCA
Funny enough, 3 of the godfathers of Memphis Rap would produce for NY, Houston and ATL rappers. Carlos '6 July' Brody would go on to produce for NY rappers and other East Coast MCs. T Mix would produce for Suave House (Houston) and Cash Money (New Orleans). Phalon (more commonly known as Jazze Pha) would produce for Suave House (Houston), Cash Money (New Orleans), and late 90s/early 2000s Atlanta artists like Ludacris, Usher, and Ciara. Hell, Phalon's Rising to the Top was distributed by Elektra Records (an LA label) in 1990. So these bigger scenes had help from Memphis.
That makes the it even more impressive. Memphis's isolation from the bigger cities hip hop was booming in helped keep that specific sound they made in M town. It's so ahead of its time its unreal. You can tell someone today these were made today and they'd probably believe you, even do they were made in the 90s
If you have an ear for different peoples rhyme styles you can tell DJ Paul wrote Crunchy verse on here. They used write alot for him back then. You can tell when he started writin his own lyrics.
come with me to hell is one of the best mixtapes ever made by dj paul and lord infamous, from track one to the end, hard knocking bass on those dark beats ,and lyrics of gangstas, cant get any more real than that
Are you f’ing kidding me?! Lords flow and lyrics are out of this world “Sacred grounds of terror Oh yes, YOU MAY ENTER Trails of blood left in the snow during the course of winter”
"I Like It Loud" by MC Twist & the Def Squad; the sample appears at around 0:25 they just pitched it down a bunch, and fun fact it's the same sample they used on Skinny Pimp's "Let's Start a Riot" which was also produced by DJ Paul!
